Dakota and Don had been mates for a little over six months. Don had adopted Anna as his own. Anna loved him as if he was her real father.
Don and Dakota watched Anna play with Angie and her little sister, Marzipan. Marzipan had just come from Angie's old home, wich made everyone very happy. Marzipan was only around three months old, so Anna made a good playmate for her. As Dakota watched Anna play with Marzipan, she noticed, somthing about Anna's personality change. "Don, does Anna look, you know, different?" Dakota asked her mate Don. "Why would you say somthing like that?" Don replyd. "Just the way she's, kind of--well, playing with Marzi. She looks, so, sooo-" Dakota puased. "Happy." Don aswered.

Don moved a bit closer to Dakota, smiling softly. "She is fine Dakota" he said softly, bending over licking his mate's ear softly. He perked to the children's laughing, slowly he turned his head towards them, watching again.

The couple watched everyone play, until the sun began to set. "Its getting late, I'll walk you two home." Don said. "Anna, lets go!" Dakota called. Anna stoped and looked up at her mother. "Coming!" She replyd and ran up to them. They began walking to Dakota's cave. Once it came into veiw, Anna raced twards it. "Bye dad!" She called as she enterd the cave. "I hate that you and her have to live out here." Don said. "I know. It would be safer too, but I don't think Anna or I have the manners it would take to be a house pet." Dakota sighed.

Don perked to her statment. "House pet? You don't have to get a human.." He looked to Dakota, who gave him a quizzical look. Don chuckled "You could be a stray, like me.. I only have a collar beause I want to remember my old owner, they past away.." He looked over his shoulder, back to the way the town was, regretting the thought of leaving.

"Oh, Im. Sorry." Dakota studderd. "Its, no big deal. IM living just fine." Don said, not facing Dakota. "Where do you live? You don't live with a human so, do you live in a good home?" She asked.

Don looked back to her, smiling softly "I live on the streets, in the alleys and such" he shookout his fur and huffed though his noise "Sorry about that." He layed his ears back a bit "I really should get going, while its still light out, though.."

"Oh, I guess you could, you know.." Dakota said slowly. "No, no, no! I couldn't bother you like that! Like you need another mouth to feed." Don retorted. "Oh please. I had to feed a PACK before, I can handle one more." She winked. "Hm, in a few days." He winked back. Dakota rubbed her tail under his chin and walked back twards the cave. "Okay." She said with a sassy smile and walked in.

Don watched untill she got to the back, before turning to leave. He started walking away, once far enough he started to run. Once to town he settled down in a alley, curling his body up and closing his eyes. Slowly he fell to sleep.

A week or so later, Don moved in with Dakota and Anna. After a few day's, Anna brought them together for her to tell them somthing she had been planning. "What? Y-Your leaving?!" Dakota asked, shocked at what her daughter had just told her. "Mom, Im gonna be two years old soon, I think I need a home of my own." Anna explained. "But, where?" Don asked. "There's a pond near by, it has a nice sized cave, a little smaller than this one, but its fine." Anna said. "But-" Dakota sighed. "Mom, its not far at all, I'll be fine." She said. "Your growing up, and I can live with that." Dakota said, tears falling down her face. "Realy! Thanks momma!" Anna cheered. Anna left that afternoon, and Don walked his mate into town, hopeing to get her mind off of it. "Lets go, I know a great spot to watch the northern lights!" Don smiled.

Don picked up his pace as he headed towards the spot, that they were headed. He looked back to look at Dakota, who was walking a bit slower then he was, with her head down. Don sighed softly "Hon, she will be fine, Anna is a smart girl."

Dakota glaned up at him. "I know, but. She's-" Dakota tried her best not to cry, but it happend. "She's my only child." She sniffled, and cleared her throught. "She's also been having this boy dog, about her age, and he's crushing on her BIG time, Im just worried about her." Dakota whimperd. 'She's a beauty, like her mom, its gonna happen." Don said, slightly chuckling. Dakota looked back up at him, smiling. "Lets go to that spot you were talking about, I wanna see it." Dakota smiled, perking up a little.

"Alright" he said, continuing to lead "Y'know we can visit her though.. I'm going to miss her too..." he sid softly. After a while of walking they finally came up to a ledge, the ending of it not so high up. He looked to the sky and frowned "its stil a little early.. you can't seem then yet.."

Dakota stretched out and lied down on her side. "I don't feel like walking back right now. We can wait." Dakota said in a low voice. She rolled onto he back, then her stomach. "The sunset." She said soflty. "Its beautifull." She sighed happily. Just as the sun set behind the mountains, the northern lights began to show. "Oh look!" Dakota cheered.

Don chuckled and stood up aswell, he walked closer to where the light's seemed to lay. He sniffed the air softly "It's not the only thing.." he said under his breath, looking back to Dakota.

Seeing Don glancing at her, she truned to him. "Whats wrong?" She asked. He sniffed the air again. "What is it?" She asked, again.
