I totally agree.
I don't /care/ if they talk in PM's, because; they will be the only ones seeing it. /Gossip/
But when you talk in a Hello; Public chat callled the Shout Box, the person you are talking about can walk in and see it, or look at the Previous messages, /I do that sometimes/
It's rude, starts petty fights, and it never really fades away. I remember all the rumors that people said when they thought I wasn't there; And now I don't talk to them. I totally ignore them.
So it never really stops all the time....
I don't know about a rule; a lot of people might not like the idea; but it might stop some agurments. So i'm not really sure about the "rule" idea.

I know it happens, but there isn't really anyway to stop it from happening; so makeing a rule wouldn't help.

Like most cases it's the members that lack any sort of respect for anyone, and mostlikey find it funny cause they have a grudge against that member.

What I would do is, talk to the people who was told the rumors and then report the person who started the rumors.

Bad idea. That's really a waste of the administration's time. They don't need to be bothered by petty little school-grade rumors. People need to be able to handle this stuff on their own, the administration should not be expected to hold everyone's hand...if a rumor starts, the person needs to handle it themselves. People need to learn to defend themselves, others won't always be around to defend them. Unless the rumor get way out of hand and/or gets to the next level, don't pull the administration into it.

That's my advice.

On this site? I don't think that is the smartest idea; you and I both know when someone "Tries to defend themself" they cause a big uproar. [Almost everytime]

While your point holds merit, I still hold that the staff should not be responsible for handling these things except in the cases which I stated in my last post. "hurt feelings" is not a tangible problem in which the staff should be expected to deal with. They take care of people who violate the rules. And very likely, most of these rumors don't violate the rules at all. If anything they just highlight the age group of the forum. Think of it through this metaphor. A farmer/rancher has cattle in an enclosed area(forum membership). They can do what they want. Mingle, bother each other, whatever. (Spread schoolhouse rumors) Those things are so minute that it probably won't cause any trouble. But if one of the cattle breaks the fence (breaks a rule) then the farmer/rancher needs to go deal with it. (Administration gets involved.) But until the cattle actually do break out, the farmer can be off tending to the other animals.

In a nutshell, staff doesn't need to get involved until someone breaks the fence. rofl

I agree; but it's tireing seeing the talk about "omg did you see what that person did?" And spreading rumors. Though I leave the Shout Box, apparently it bothers as well.

I didn't really think that this was a huge problem on this site to be honest. Maybe it's because I don't use the chat so I don't see a lot of it. I just hope that none of those were at me or any friends here.

its not just the chat, the rumor about me started in a rp.

Yet another thing I left in disgust. At least none of that stuff seams to happen where I go here so I avoid it.

This is so true. Even innocent remarks can get out of hand and have serious consequences, if mishandled.
The tongue has been aptly compared to a horse's bridle and aship's rudder, for like both of these it's small but easily steers something very large. And like a fire, the damage done by the tongue can spread, first destroying a small area and then an entire life, or even (envision, if you will, what happens when one tree catches fire in a forest), many lives.

You people are getting upset over rumors started online!? Are you kidding me?

Grow up. It's the internet. Whether the rumors are hurtful or not, you probably won't meet the people who started them face-to-face ever in your entire lifetime, so what's the big deal?
It's like they say in school, children - ''If a rumor isn't real, why worry about it?'' (er ... something like that, lol)

The point is, these people who ''bully'' you are most likely hundreds of miles away.

It's the internet.
Get over yourselves.

Besides. The moderators have bigger issues to worry about.

Very true.

And for those who find it offensive or really think that person might start again, there is a pretty little button on the right of a post/shout box comment with an exclamation point in it. Click it and report the person.
