Look, I do realize this site is aimed at a bit younger of a crowd than some but I've noticed there are some members on this site that don't give proper respect in discussions. I'm not pointing any fingers for the most part but in my thread requesting prayers for my brother, there was a good example of disrespect from (and I'm pretty sure this was the case) a former mod no less and that's not all, in other areas of the site, I've seen people being disrespected. I do realize some of the users here are young but respect is something they should already know. And I know most members of this site are very respectful of others, I'm just upset with those who are not. I'm not asking for anything here, I'm just getting this off my chest. Whenever I post a discussion thread, I ask for respect of other's opinions because its importent to me. Disrespect only has one conclusion, ether a flame or a ban, nether of which are wanted by anyone. I'm asking anyone that post here show respect as well. All I'm doing is getting this off my chest because I'm upset at these people who disrespect people that just want to have fun on the site and never did anything to earn disrespect.

I agree, I also want to add something:
1. This site is fairly simple, the rules are common on most sites [Depeding what age group it's pointed to] I go to, and when you get banned for not behaving, really, it's ...Embarassing, to get "Kicked" off a site because you can't control your fingers from typing on a keyboard? [Akward]
2. Respect, that means following the rules.
3. I see a lot of people say they didn't mean to do something, it's best to thing about what you say before posting.

I'm glad that you ask for people's respect too, that's a good thing.

What I'm upset about is the laziness, people just carelessly type a word or sentence and that makes it difficult to read and so I can't really reply to it because I can't understand it, I understand that there are some younger people that come to this site and they have trouble spelling big and difficult words like (sorry if this is kind of gross but my teacher used this as an example the other day) 'Dihhorea' or 'Environment', but when they type small and easy words like 'and' or 'it' they put 'nad' or 'iy' and that is just pure laziness. Here's an example of what some people do:

Jack jumed ovr teh cndlestik nd bernt hsi pents.

Now tell me if you can read that? What I really typed was:

Jack jumped over the candlestick and burnt his pants.

Some people just need to work on their spelling, punctuation and grammar, it's not that hard.

To tell the truth, I've never had a cellphone and most of the other 11 and 12 year olds in my class have one, and those people are the ones that have trouble spelling. Also, I used to go on chat rooms where everyone used to use 'u' instead of 'you' and other stuff like 'night every1' and I used to do that, but now I haven't been on that chatroom for months, and ever since I joined BS I've spelt everything correctly and I've payed more attention in my lessons.

That makes sense though Freefall, I'm not sure if that is on topic. I do agree that people don't always think of the concaquences (I'm bad at spelling, I'll admit but I don't have a cell phone, its just never been a strong suit) of what they're doing online, which does count as disrespect. Anyway, I'm not mad anymore about what happened when I was asking for prayers for my brother, I just cited it as an example of the disrespect I was talking about. Another place that disrespect is common is in the entertainment boards. People say they 'feel dumb' for watching a show several members have already said they enjoy. I respect they don't like the show but come on, can't they just say 'I was never a fan of the show' instead of 'I feel dumb for watching this piece of trash' and insulting those who do enjoy it? That makes me angry.

Yeah, I know what it's like, in one of the topics, 'The Worst Movie You've Seen' people were saying. "Eragon completely sucked" or "Look how ugly they made Saphira" and I like the movie Eragon, and there is nothing wrong with Saphira.

I can agree with this. In my opinion, it doesn't matter the age, you should have been taught manners and respect.(At least I was anyway.) Most of the time it's the fault of the parent or the kid just doesn't get it. A more apropitiate thing to say is: "I don't
care."

About the grammar situation.(I know I'm not that good, but I "try.") Like said, the main cause is the ever growing popularity of cellphones. I will admit I have one. I
NEVER texted on it. I don't see the point. Why not just talk on it like it was meant to be used for...It's also a shame to see my Dad now does this. To also add, he got so into it he had to get a slider with a keyboard.

Funny how this went from a topic on respect to a topic about grammar...

Though I do understand how you're feeling about this, GW. Sadly - There will always be people who like to act tough and disrespectful. Both online and in real life. The best you can do is ignore them, or if you like you could point out how immature and rude they're being and hopefully humiliate them enough to make them think about what they're saying.

Oh and also, since grammar seems to be a part of the topic now, I'll add that I don't believe age has anything to do with it. I'm 14 and I got level F (Highest 'letter level' you can get in Scotland that is expected to be achieved by 14-15 year olds) at the age of 12 and it's not down to age. Just how willing you are to learn.

Of course, some people have dyslexia and similar problems which affect their spelling and with these people I am patient, I've even offered to help them in the past. Also online some people are not from an English spaking country, however I know of one member who is English and makes absolutely no effort to spell correctly. Myself and many others have lost patience with her and she has even been warned by the mods. We offer to help her, and she just uses her 'young' age as an excuse. (I know kids half her age who spell better) She won't even use the spellchecker that comes with her browser. THAT is laziness and that is the behaviour that should not go unpunished.

Didn't expect this topic to turn into grammer and spelling, not every one speaks English Naturaly, and of cource, they will make mistakes.
I love to correct myself, but I prefere to do it myself because it's much better [and more easy to remember] if I push myself on it.
I love grammer, and english, so I like to improve myself on that subject.

This may seem like a stuipd question, but does every browser have a spellchecker? [I'm not sure if mine has one]
-------------
I was taught that you should act the way you were raised. So i'm not sure and I doubt, that a lot of other people's parents were raised to believe that, but it's kinda sad when you see some one go "shut up you like so stuipd i don't care1111!!!! no i don't have two acounts how can u acuse me of that11!!"
It makes you wonder how their parents/Guardian (sp?) raised them....

Self-diagnosed dyslexia is cool, yo!

On a serious note, I believe the lack of disrespect on this website is caused by the age of its members, mainly. Children usually don't know how to express their viewpoints respectively and are often very blunt when they do it. They may not mean to be disrespectful, but they come across to be (which is also the majority of cases we have to deal with in this relation).

To JC - If that's in response to what I said, I didn't mean age doesn't matter as "Not all kids can't spell!" In a sense I was actually agreeing with you. Other kids do use SMS and it's plain lazy. You'd probably hate my town, our speech (Yes, "our", Ive grown up talking this way too) is hard to understand. Replacing 'nt with "ay" for example. My peers tend to bring this into there writing too. "A dinny care".

Sad thing being I understand them.

*Blathers*

Sorry for storytelling...Anyway I can see how you may have misunderstood my post but I actually meant that age is not an excuse for bad grammar, and pointing out tge level I got at 12 was a way of backing this up. Not proving what you said wrong. (Again, I can see why you might have gotten this idea)
