This is the second day in a row I show up in the shoutbox and someone is whining WOE IS ME BAWWWW.

Call whine-one-one for the waaaahmbulance because the Shoutbox is not to cater to your need for attention. If you're going to be a negative Nancy and drawl endlessly about how much your life sucks, guess what? Your life will suck. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. And then you'll BAWWW more about it. And also, if you think your life is apparently that horrible, then you're selfish. There are poor people out there who sell their children as workers just so they can eat mud cookies for dinner that night, there are millions of people dying from malaria and AIDS every year, and there are good honest people who have lost everything due to the economy. But hey, stop the world, you need to whine on Balto Source.

If you want attention, join the conversation that's in progress. But don't start TRYING to find something to be bummed about just so you have a reason to whine and get pity. And I'm tired of going onto the shoutbox and seeing someone who expects everyone to feel sorry for them and halt the conversation to go give a member a pat on the head every time they go "*sigh*"

I have plenty of reasons why I could be a sad sack right now but nobody other than me cares, so I'm not going to burden people with my tiny problems that only matter in my corner of the universe.

As Draco keeps saying everytime a shoutbox rant comes up,the best thing to do is,ignore them, and they'll go away, anytime I go on the shoutbox, and say hello, and no one replies back,I just leave.

This is one of the main reasons I don't spend alot of my time in the shoutbox. These people realllly need some help with a counslor or somethin.
Though I do agree with sepp, something other than ingnoring only goes so far.

I abso-tively agree with you. Especially the part about there are people who have it worse than you.

People who go on a Balto website don't want to hear about "myyyy boyfrennnd dummmppppeddd meeeee :''''''((" or "my friendssssssssss haaaaattttteeeee meee >:'(" because guess what? Nobody cares. Whine to somebody else. We don't want to hear about it. On the shoutbox we talk about pie and fanart. Scabbing pity attention from people you've never met shouldn't really satisfy you. Talk to a friend (presuming they don't hate you) or somebody you actually know or a counsellor if it's bad enough to make you say "myyyy lifffeee suckkksss I neeeedd to cuuutttt".

I love you! Marry me, we'll adopt!
Joke...

But seriously. I agree with you entirely here. I don't understand why people seek attention/pity on the internet and how on Earth little words on a screen can satisfy that need for attention. Isn't that their parent/guardian/friend/[Insert real-life relationship here]'s job?

Pretty Jenna is right that ignoring is useful. But JC is also right about it only going so far. And there will alays be some person, normally another with "problems", who givs them the attention they crave.

And do they not realise that the vast majority of members dislike those who come here for pity? All they will get it negative attention if they keep this up.

Now I understand occasionally one has to let off some steam or needs a shoulder to cry on. But when the same member comes on every day with a new dramatic problem you start to get tired of it and inmost cases, begin to doubt their credibility.

I used to be a member of a website where ranting and venting, amongst other things, was strictly banned. Much stricter site than BaltoSource. It was the first site I registered on, so when I came here and discovered the Forum's Rant Board I was very surprised. (And vowed never to return to the former site I was addicted to) Perhaps Steet could make a 'Vent Board'?

I don't always say ignore LOL But for personal issues, maybe just tell them nicely to take it to PMs and report it if it continues. Such talk is NOT allowed in the shout boxes.

Oh god, NO XD do you know how much crap would be posted there if that was done? Spam central. And really, personal issues need to be kept AWAY from internet sites, not many people on the internet are going to care. Not to mention half, if not most of it is made up for attention. Personal issued aren't allowed ANYWHERE on the site or forum if I'm correct.

I guess so. XD Though to be honest if no one wants to see these personal issues, the simplest soluton would be to stay away from the board.

As much as I agree, a lot of people are just looking for anyway to fight with another person. (It's why there are so many locked topics on the rant board, not the ones that are spam though)
It would be intresting, but more of a hassle for the mods.

From my whole time of being on BS I've seen this topic multiple times. But i agree its really sad if you think about it, and it wont ever stop. People are always going to be jerks and what not, you just have to learn to ignore it and avoid it.

Its the age difference maybe thats mainly the problem i think. A 12 year old and a 18 year old talking on the shout box. The 12 year old will probably start talking of random things and when you try to reply nicely, the 12 year old will start a flame. Because of a misunderstanding.

And I'm not saying all younger kids do that im just using it as an example because i see it all the time.

I hardly ever get on the shout box, mabey once a month and only at night. So It's easy to avoid people for me, but the way I see it, these people want attention, and want to be differnt from everyone else, "MY LIFE SUCKS!!!!" Is just a way to start people up and derect them to that person.

I see this all the time and (no offense) but it is normally younger kids (though I am 'younger' myself) that start this with more 'popular' users. It could drive someone mad!! 'My dad yelled at me' Well too bad my mom slapped me once but I talked to her and got over it. So why make big deal out of it? Move on with your life kid. I once pitied myself when I was younger for about 3 monthes, it's hard have 8 siblings but I came up with a helpful little mantra like thingy (or whatever you call it XD) 'There is always someone who has it 10 times better than you and there is always someone who has it 10 times worse than you, you are who you are.'

When the pity party starts to happen, I just leave and/or laugh at them. Sometimes, it DOES sound real, so, that's when I'll listen and respect them. BUT...most of the time, it's just crap. What's even more pathetic, sometimes their sob-stories make no sense, and change day by day...It's like watching a really crappy drama tv show.
