OH MY GOD!!!!!! YES! YES! FINALLY!

I remember getting Crystal Version as my first Gameboy game, and playing it for three hours straight. I kept on hoping for these remakes since Diamond and Pearl came out. I'll probably get the HeartGold Version 'cause I already have Lugia, but not Ho-oh.

You have just made my day. No, my month.

You'll probably not be the only one overjoyed by this. A lot of people loved those two games. And with the new stuff they can add, I'm looking forwards to this! I'm glad I was able to make your day!

It was easy to tell that Nintendo pretty much had no choice but to do this if they wanted to keep gamers happy.
Up until now, most Johto pokemon were really difficult to get in the latest generation of Pokemon games on the DS.

I'm excited though. I'm am going to go with what I did years ago and go with the silver version.

I can't remember where to find the video, but I did see a really short gameplay trailer of the game. I'm small disappointed that it looks similar to Diamond/Pearl/Platinum with minor details added. But oh well.
The outfit for the male trainer is brand new, from the looks of it; doesn't follow the original Silver/Gold outfit.

I'll keep looking for that video...

EDIT: Found it! Ignore the Japanese.

And this here.

Thanks for the info. I'm really looking forwards to it as well. Yeah, the graphics are like DPP but that's to be expected, Firered and Leafgreen graphically resembed Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. I'm intrested by the idea of your pokemon following you in the picture. It was minorly used in Diamond and Pearl in Hearthrome city, then in Platinium it was your entire starter pokemon line that could be used in the place. Maybe that was a test drive for something more. I'd love the idea of having a starter Pokemon walk with you the entire game, like in Yellow. Nintendo said 'it would have new features never seen in any Pokemon Game before', I'm intrigued and excited by that.

Hopefully they won't stick the internal clock and the saves on the same battery, so I can play it for more than a year before it deletes the saves when the battery runs out

Simply said: That is old technology. Like, really old for tech.

The internal clock on the DS system itself will be used instead of a clock built into the game itself like the original Gold and Silver games.

The save files could act differently in one of two ways. The first would be, like all DS games so far, the save file will be stored in the game card itself.
The second way would require that the game can only be played on the new DSi system and the save file will be saved onto the system's memory, like what it does with DSiWare games and similar to how the Wii works with all of its games. But because there has yet to be a retail DS game designed to only work on the DSi, there's no way of telling.

Either way, there is no battery that has the possibility to run out and ruin your saved file, except for possibly the DS internal clock that could need to be reset if the system is remained uncharged for a long time.... and I mean a LONG time. More than likely, your DS will die before either your game or save file does.

I hope this won't be specifically for the DSi, that would suck in my book because I don't have one and considering they didn't make ones spcifically for the DS Lite, I don't think they will for the DSi ether.

Who knows.

I think Nintendo is going keep it a normal DS game. Reason being is that there are a lot more DS/DSLite/DSi systems to sell to than just DSi alone.

Of course, Nintendo isn't a company that doesn't go backwards in tech. With the major functionality and horsepower improvements in the DSi over either the DS or DSLite, they could go with making the game DSi only. One thing that supports this fact is that the DSi is labeled as the fastest selling handheld system. Releasing a Pokemon only for the system, thanks to the huge popularity of the Johto games and Pokemon in general, would rock sales of the DSi forward.

All remains to be seen.

EDIT:
Found another bit of information on the games through GoNintendo:

- redesigned female lead
- opposite lead plays the support role
- Pokégear, Sprout Tower and Slowpoke Well have been redesigned
- new area cutscenes from Fire Red and Leaf Green return
- crossover promotion with the new movie
- Pikachu-coloured Pichu and a notch-eared Pichu are available to those that preorder
- two Pichus trigger an in-game event in Ilex Forest
- access to Arceus, which shows you past info about Arceus and Sinnoh in Pokémon Platinum by transferring it over to the game.
- starter Pokemon will follow you, but specifics are not known
- new Wifi features
- touch-screen UI elements

http://www.siliconera.com/2009/05/17/pokmon-heartgold-soulsilver-details-emerge/

The food for thought point the game to being played on all version of the DS system.
Different gameplay bonuses are said to be available depending on the system you are using: looks like you can insert FireRed/LeafGreen into slot 2 to fight a powerful Kanto trainer (DS and DSLite) or it looks like you can use the camera for some unknown game feature (DSi).

I want ma totodile to follow me ^^ i can't stand gen 3 and 4; nintendo can't think of anything new. Adding more pokemon and a new region is an awesome idea, but it should be done only once.

It is thanks to the new generations that we're getting these two games remade.

I'm just wondering, would you rather Nintendo make and remake Pokemon with the same two regions, same set of Pokemon, only with tiny touch-ups to the graphic and possibly new features? Eventually, people will start memorizing where things are and it'll feel like a waste of money. Pokemon would die that way.

I do have to give you props: Gold and Silver are the only games in the series where you travel to a whole different region and collect two sets of badges. The fact that the later ones don't, may be the reason why people dislike them to a level.
Though, if you look closely, you can see that Nintendo added big features to the latest generations to make up for that fact.

You know what I'm honestly hoping for? That they expand on the Gold and Silver concept of traveling to Kanto and let you go to all the regions, not sure if fitting that much into a game is at all possible but it'd be awsome!

BTW, thanks for the info on the new remakes!

Otherwise I'll tell them where to stick those games and keep playing the originals
