Okay, well for starters, I really wasn't sure what section to put this in, it could really go anywhere. So I put it here. If you mods think it would fit better somewhere else, feel free to move it (as if you wouldn't XD)

Okay, well, just as something interesting, when you read/watch/imagine a movie/book/comic/sports, what do you picture as the 'ideal' hero or main character (antagonist)?

Here's what I think, and it also gives you an example of what I mean:

I am a sucker for the underdog. The one with good morals and a never-say-die attitude. The one where no matter how many times they lose, they always try and try again, which means that no matter how suckish they are at points they managed to restore your hope just as it's reaching the point where you are very tired of seeing them lose.

Also, I like the unique, interesting, different hero appearance and personality wise. Where you think "what a freak" but then you think "an awesome freak at that" XDDD and someone very charismatic.

And a unique, all-or-nothing, total offensive style. I love that.

So, what do you find as the 'Ideal Hero'? And, are there any people/characters that actually DO fit the bill? Usually, there is one or two. In my case, most of this was based off WWE's Jeff Hardy (he PWNZ, I love him so) and a tiny bit of the North Queensland Cowboys (NRL).

The Ideal Villain

Well, to start off, I love female villains. And complex villains. Complex, female villains. But not so complex that it's like "wut..? wtf tell me again why they are evil?" I like a villain that's obsessive, emotional, and actually doesn't realise that they're the bad guy. The kind of villain that if you tried hard enough to write it from their point of view, they'd be the hero.

My favourite villain would actually have to be Zira from TLK 2. I loved the fact that she was obsessive with Scar. She was everything I think a villain should be. And capable of love, which annoyingly a lot of villains are not. I love her mood swings. You don't expect family movie villains to be that awesome. She was.

I hate villains that are just like "ooh, lets kill stuff because we are undeveloped!" in my opinion, the villain should be just as, if not more (actually more) developed than the protagonist. Because people aren't just evil for no reason.

I like the new and different ones.

Ones who don't seem cliche anymore. Rather like the ones who not only seem like a bit of a freak but look like it aswell, instead of the usual "handsome hero" thing.
Or when they really don't want anything at all to do with anyone, basically, a bit of jerk but still helps anyway.

I also like it when they make interesting female hero's for a change. Usually they're the typical "eeeeee save me!" damsel-in-distress type OR a pushy idiot and just annoys the heck out of me.

Whenever I think of "hero", immediately what comes to mind is the person in question being a war hero. I am aware though, that there are many other forms. When I think of a hero, things like courageousness, charisma, the will to do good, all come to mind. I would picture a hero as someone who has the qualities of not using others, defending what is good regardless of the cost. This person would also would not feed the fire of fame, but simply turn their head sideways and tolerate it. Also, more likely than not there were those who help hero figures achieve that standing, and it is important for the hero to realize and publicly acknowledge that. For example, a war hero. Let's say a general. He should realize and point out that his victories were not achieved only on his own, but with the help of his army.

By the way, the hero/main character of something is generally referred to as a protagonist, not an antagonist. Antagonist is the one who hinders the hero's/main character's efforts.

Hmm... I'm not a fan of heroes myself, but if I had to choose.

I like heroes who aren't constantly serious, I like funny and even childish main characters. If they are serious then I can still like them only if they are put into awkward situations (like I do with my serious chars) and have funny reactions. Or ones who beat their enemies in ways you would never expect (that aren't totally disappointing). I also love when main characters act like complete idiots as they fight, yet still manage to beat their enemy (like mocking them I guess). I also like my heroes with a bit of a dark side to them and a good past to support their personality and how they got to where they are.

Fai from Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle fits that the best I guess ^^

Yay Villians! Okay, I like the insane ones. Killer evil smiles are also a must! The laugh isn't as important to me although I like those too. I also like them to show a bit of a softer side then just the blodthirsty-ness you'd normally see. Like maybe one certain thing stikes a chord in them or something. Or if they're emotionless I like them to have some sort of story behind why they can't show emotions. I want them to have a past that makes sense as to how they ended up insanely murderous, or whatever. Underdeveloped villians annoy me. As for the insanity, they can be completely insane or act like a child playing around as they fight the hero (just an example: laughing joyfully while splashing around in blood). That reminds me, they have to look good covered in blood.

Envy from FMA is my favorite villain!

M'kay, so that's my opinion on that!

Most of my preffered heros are not the more typical ones that are seen who often have a relutance to go on the offence contary to their rivals(villans or atleast antagonist).Mine are mostly Anti-heros who aren't really reluctant to kill unlike most heros since a smart antagonist who is willing to use anything to win could possibly use their refusal to draw blood to their advantadge.Basically I find these anti heros of mine to be more effective since they don't really give the villian a chance to live and do attack again(Rambo did once, but gave a threat)Some examples are

Mathayus (The Scorpion King):is an Akkadian mercenary who served as the protagonist for "The Scorpion king". Mathayus was once a man who knew only death and murder as his purpose in life, but possessed a soft spot for children and women. He was a sarcastic warrior who enjoyed battle and a greatly humorous person during combat and in dangerous situations, perhaps to give him more confidence in his predicaments. He also has a close friendship with his two brothers, and strongly believes in vengeance and honor, frequently quoting an old Akkadian oath: “Live free…die well.” By the time he and his brethren are introduced, they are purportedly the last of the Akkadians during a time of conflict and bloodshed by the conqueror Memnon. They are tasked in assassinating his sorceress but his brothers perish when they are betrayed. He swore revenge when he escapes Memnon's confinement with a horse thief. He inadvertently rescues the sorceress who saves him from certain death on one occasion by a weapon laced with scorpion venom. She claims that should he survive, the blood of the Scorpion shall flow within his veins (hence his title). He later rallies the rebels with Nubian leaders Balthazar and Queen Isis to stand up towards Memnon's tyranny. With Cassandra's help, he ultimately defeats Memnon in defiance of her vision (where he is depicted as perishing). As the rule of the Legendary City Gomorrah, he is crowned king by the denizens of the latter city after the tyrant's death, establishing his kingship and legend as the Scorpion King.

Rambo:(the ultimate soldier)John Rambo is a troubled Vietnam War veteran and former Green Beret who is skilled in many aspects of survival, weaponry, hand to hand combat and guerrilla warfare who is the main character of the Rambo series.
John James Rambo was born on July 6, 1947 in Bowie, Arizona to a Navajo father (R. Rambo according to the last film) and a mother (Marie Dragoo) of Italian descent. However, in Rambo: First Blood Part II, Marshall Murdock states that Rambo is of Indian–German descent.) Rambo graduated from Rangeford High School, and then was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 17 on June 8, 1964. He was deployed to South Vietnam in September 1966. He returned to the U.S. in 1967 and began training in the Special Forces (Green Berets) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. At some point he also receives training in flying helicopters. In late 1969, Rambo was deployed back to Vietnam. In November 1971, he was captured by North Vietnamese forces near the Chinese-Vietnamese border and held at a Prisoner of war camp, where he and other American POWs were repeatedly tortured. Rambo escaped captivity in May 1972, but was then re-deployed.

Upon his return to the U.S., Rambo discovered that many American civilians hated the returning soldiers, and he himself was subject to humiliation and embarrassment by having anti-war hippies throw garbage at him and calling him "baby killer". His experiences in Vietnam and back home resulted in an extreme case of post-traumatic stress disorder. At the same time, inner questions of self identity and reflectiveness cause Rambo to lash out at society rather than handling difficult situations in a "civilized" manner. This is where "First Blood" picks up the story.

Kratos:(This guy is a villian's worst nightmare)Kratos is the fictional protagonist of the God of War series.
Throughout the series, Kratos acts as an anti-hero, often making immoral decisions to further his goal; sacrificing unprotected humans for example. Prior to the start of the series, he served as the captain of Sparta's army and was only interested in increasing his power by conquering his opponents. His personality changes when he becomes a servant to Ares, after which he faithfully followed the god's orders. After he stopped serving Ares, Kratos continues to serve the gods in order to receive forgiveness, but shows a defiant stance against them. Once contacted by the gods of Olympus, Kratos shows disregard for their plight, only following their orders for personal benefit. In the first game, Kratos' main motive is revenge. He is ordered to assassinate Ares and agrees to do so to achieve absolution from his past crimes.

The main idea when creating Kratos was to design someone that looked "brutal", while separating its appearance from what is considered the traditional Greek hero. The character's look was supposed to feel violent and impulsive. One of the early concepts was to have a fully masked character, but the idea was abandoned when such designs seemed "soulless", lacking a defined personality.During the creative process, game director David Jaffe focused on the "brutal" factor; this led to the team focusing on the character's primal aspect. At a point all traditional armor was removed from the character, in order to conserve his "individualism".Numerous designs were drawn, ranging from one resembling a member of a African tribe to several using traditional Greek armors. Various changes were done to these drawings in order to make the character seem as "Greek" as possible. Some of the models included unconventional elements, including an infant being carried on Kratos' back.Others were deemed to include excessive detail, these included hair and other "flowing things" which were discarded after they were considered a bigger effort when creating the virtual models. The chain blades were selected as Kratos' signature weapons because the team considered that they emphasized the character's animalistic nature while at the same time making his combat more fluid.
Don't think about fighting this guy,he already died twice, was a god and kills monsters and demons for a living.

One more thing, they're planning to make a God of War film. :D

Image
Dante(demon hunter):Dante is the fictional protagonist of the Devil May Cry video game series published by Capcom.
Dante is a mercenary who specializes in paranormal cases, preferring those that call for demon slaying. He is muscular, has silver hair and is usually seen wearing red clothes. Dante's arsenal usually consists of firearms and melee weapons, including "Ebony and Ivory", twin handguns that never have to be reloaded, as well as a variety of swords.Dante is confident in his encounters with opponents, and frequently taunts boss characters before battling them.He also has supernatural powers, as a result of his half-demon heritage.
Dante is one of the twin sons of Sparda, a demonic knight who chose to side with humanity and drive back an invasion of the human world by demons 2000 years ago. After Sparda's death, Dante and his brother Vergil were raised by their human mother, Eva. When Dante and Vergil were still children, the family was attacked by demons, resulting in Eva's death. This event lead to Dante's commitment to hunting demons in pursuit of those that killed his mother.
Just so you guys know,Ive never really ever played "Devil may cry",but I'd rather like to one of these days. This was done since someone I'm aquainted to someone likes them.

GODZILLA(The harbinger of destuction):Godzilla is a kaij?.His first film was made in 1954, and since then, he has made many more appearances, and has even become a pop-culture icon. In total, Godzilla has appeared in 28 films, all of which were produced by Toho Company Ltd.Though often potrayed as a villian, godzilla is frequently an anti-hero.
Godzilla's appearance has changed over the years, but many of his characteristics have remained constant. His roar has remained the same, only changing in pitch, as has his approximate appearance: a giant, mutant dinosaur with rough, bumpy charcoal gray scales, a long powerful tail, and jagged, bone colored dorsal fins. Godzilla's iconic character design is a blended chimera inspired by various prehistoric reptiles, gleaned from children's dinosaur books and illustrations from an issue of Life magazine: Godzilla has the head and lower body of a Tyrannosaurus, a triple row of dorsal plates reminiscent of a Stegosaurus, the neck and forearms of Iguanodon and the tail and skin texture of a crocodile.

Although his origins vary somewhat from film to film, he is always described as a prehistoric creature, who first appeared and attacked Japan at the beginning of the Atomic Age. In particular, mutation due to atomic radiation is presented as an explanation for his size and powers. The most notable of Godzilla's resulting abilities is a his atomic breath; a powerful heat ray of thermonuclear energy that he is able to fire from his mouth. Godzilla is also depicted as being resistant to damage thanks to a tough hide and an advanced healing factor. He is portrayed as being strong and dextrous, utilizing martial arts techniques in combat. Described as a transitional form between aquatic and terrestrial vertebrates by Doctor Yamane in the original film, Godzilla is able to survive in the ocean for indefinite periods of time and is as adept a fighter underwater as he is on land.
Currently, toho kingdom is temorarily putting the Godzilla film series on Hiatus until the next decade when they will restart the series.

I've been a fan since I could walk

I'm fairly certain that all of you know of the 1998 film when a monser called"godzilla" attacks NY,but that monster is GINO(Godzilla in name only).Currently it is known as Zilla since Producer Tomiyama (Produce of Godzilla:Final Wars) claimed that this monser took the "god" out of Godzilla, hence zilla.
this will explain:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOISbaA2G18
I do however have a good respect for the TV series "Godzilla the series" which followed the surviving infant godzilla in the 1998 film.

Whoa... I wasn't expecting so many replies in such a short time! And yes, I meant protagonist not antagonist >.< I always get those two confused.

It's interesting to see how all of your favourite antagonists range and differ, which makes me more annoyed at movie producers. I completely overlooked video game heroes.

Also, as UK was talking about with female heroes; I definitely agree.

First post is being updated to include 'the ideal villain'.

Well, some folks seem to have listed antagonists, but allow me to qualify that my favorite heroes (for entertainment purposes) are those whom I referred to, who each qualify as "antiheroes" because of their darker, otherwise non-heroic natures. That allows for great drama and adventure in stories!

As far as real-life inspiration goes, I prefer more iconic, positive heroes.

However, I don't see a point in listing favorite villains in a topic about ideal heroes. But I guess you may have added that segment later...or I just missed it somehow. lol That's quite possible too. I guess I'll post later about my favorite villains!

Well, I planned on putting in what sort of villains you like in here anyway. For example if you were writing a story what would the protagonist and antagonist be like. I just like the title and think it would be pointless making another topic just for villains.
