I know that alot of Baltosource members are concerned about the Swine Flu epidemic that broke out in Mexico. Is it really worth you worrying about? And why should you be concerned?

Personally I am not fretting about this epidemic as it has been called by the News Programs. If you were to have asked any random individual in the streets if they knew or had heard of Swine Flu they probably couldn't tell you and most likely couldn't care less. This attention to Swine Flu reminds me of the Avian Flu Epidemic that was covered on the news. Very few cases were reported in the US with the much larger effect of it happening in the Asian countries. The fact of the matter is that the media tends to either dramatize alot of what they cover to scare you into consuming products. When the mass of people are afraid they consume goods and the large companies make money. Where alot of these unheard of dieases tend to happen is in Countries that lack how they export their goods and how clean the goods are when they are shipped into this country. I think people underestimate how effective the US Customs and USFDA are. They will not allow any goods coming into this country that are contaminated. This outbreak in Mexico isn't surprising to me, their country is run by a weak Central government and many of the politicians have connections to the drug cartels and mafias. Also because of the latest drug war in Mexico, the Mexican governments attention is drawn to stopping the violence and it is no wonder that something like Swine Flu just happened to start. Also alot of people in Mexico live below the poverty line and in areas where the organized government has no power. Because of this power vaccum in these remote areas the Drug Lords and Mafia individuals have all the power. So I wouldn't worry about this Swine flu. In a couple of months time the media attention to it will die down and they will be onto the next big crisis.
You would be surprise how good personal hygenie comes into play at stopping these things in it's tracks.
