Anyone remember this old show? It was one of my favorites. If you've never seen it, it was about a group of five teens, the Planeteers, who were entrusted with special rings by the spirit of the Earth, Gaia. These rings gave them the power of whatever element the ring stood for, Earth, Fire, Wind Water, and Heart. Heart basically represented animal life as that's what it let its user comunicate with, giving them sort of telepathy. There job was to stop the destruction of the Earth by mankind, including 'Eco-villians', people who, for whatever reason, perposefully destroyed nature, rather greed, hatred, or just general evil. If their own power weren't enough, they could combine their powers to bring forth Captain Planet from the Earth, who was a superhero made of the five elements plus parts of their personilities and took on a form their minds created. The explaination I found was they invisioned a being like him as a superhero, thus why he looked like one and had a superhero-like name. Another nice touch was each of the Planeteers was from a diffrent racial background and they avoided racial sterotypes, promoting racial acceptence.
Kwame- Africa, Ring of Earth Wheeler- North America, Ring of Fire Linka- Soviet Union (later Eastern Europe after the Soviet Union broke up), Ring of Wind Gi- Southeast Asia, Ring of Water Ma-Ti- Amazon Rain Forest, Ring of Heart
The show had very intresting plots and villains, as well as an envirnmental protection message that was presented through an action show. I loved this show so I posted this to see what others think, if enough people enjoyed the show, I'm thinking of posting a Roleplay based off it, likely a reboot with an edger style. Anyway, tell me what your thoughts on this show were.

Cool. I'm glad you like the show...do you think you'd be willing to do a privite RP about it with me? I know that's sudden but I did post this thread for that reason and you're a good roleplayer.

Oh...I just thought you did by your post. I'll wait for someone else then. I really liked the show though, its an all time favorite and I wish they'd bring it back, it could be useful in teaching the kids of today to protect our envirnment in the future, which seems to be a big concern to a lot of people.

Me too, the 'spirit of the Earth' thing was a bit strange but it did fit the series, and also they never made the mistake of calling Gaia a goddess, which would get some religious people mad, the type of religious people who get made at fiction for that kind of thing, I dislike such people but respect their views. Anyway, the conservation and pro-racial acceptence message where very well, the only time racism was brought up was in an episode when they got sent back in time to the wild west, which was how things were at the time. The villains were also cool, they were very good personifacations of the threats to the envirnment they represented.

Like in one episode they encountered a lady who practiced... well, some pretty wierd stuff. But yes, pro-racial acceptance is a very good thing. I liked how the team came from multiple ethnic backgrounds, and how none of them was really the leader as such.

Yeah, though Kawme was commonly in the leadership role, he wasn't the offical leader, and he's also African, which was still racial acceptence. And they avoided sterotypes as well, which is a good thing. The characters were very well handled. And Captain Planet himself wasn't invincable ether, he was very powerful but his weakness to pollution was quite common in what they dealed with so they was a good weakness for the show. I defiently think this show needs brought back, it would be very helpful to the future, considering everyone is concerned about the envirnment.

That's all true, although I have my doubts about bringing it back today. The spiritualistic stff would be far more readily absorbed by this generation.

I must admit, that show rocked! Seriously, what better way to get kids to think more about the environment than have a superhero fighting for conservation and non-pollution against supervillans who polluted? It's great! It sure got me to do my recycling and such.
Plus, I loved the opening sequence to it, with everyone displaying how they used their powers in one way or another.
My favorite episode, or at least the one I remember the most, was where this bad guy gave them these gloves that gave them the same powers as the rings, but they were about 10x more powerful than the rings or so, which caused Mother Earth to become more and more human each time they used them... although Ma-Ti was the only one who didn't use the gloves, as he saw a red flag when they couldn't put on the gloves while they were wearing their rings.
I do think that, if it were revived, the show could do a lot of help with spreading the word about global warming and how to help stop it, along with its other traditional messages of recycling and stuff.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that loved this show. If they didn't bring the series itself back, at least a Live Action film, like they've been doing with a lot of other old shows, Underdog, Dragonball, ect. I think the best part is, it wasn't a children's show, like one would expect from the primous of an ecological superhero, there were fights, some of which were pretty cool. I remember I distinctly liked how Captain Planet defeated his evil copy, Captain Pollution, by driving him through the pure soil, into the lava, through the water, and then through pure air, then the evil twin returned to his evil duplcate rings...which exploded. Being he was the oppisite of Captain Planet, he was weakened by pure, uncorrupted nature. Anyway, there are other problems the series could be used to address, I remember one was about AIDS and how you shouldn't completely shun and hate someone that had it, I think Plunder was the villain.
On a related note, I LOVED the theme song! It was classic rock I believe and was quite catchy. I always believe a good theme song is helpful to a series, as its normally the first thing you see.

I feel stupid for ever watching that show, seriously, it made no sense. For instance, here is a plot of one episode: Rat people try to cause a misinformation campagin, to cause mass panic over AIDS so they can take over the world, in one town. Does that make any sense? No, infact, it seems to insult human intelligence. Another Plot: Pig guy uses dolphins to harvest nuclear material from a submarine. Does that make sense either? No, he's even built robots before, so why doesn't he just use those, and not have a PETA extremenist hounding him. Seriously, the two dimensional villans went out of their way to pollute, in the most retarded ways imaginable, wasting more money then they ever possibly could have earned. Plus, Captain Planet could not help but spew out lame one-liners, that made an already stupid show, and added an air of annoyance to it, Wheelers voice didn't help either. The best part is, that there were numerous trees cut down to make the paper used for animation for that show, a hilarious paradox when one thinks about it.

While I appricate and respect you have your own opinions about the show, I'd like to request that you be more respecting of those of us that like the show. Its fine to point out flaws in the show, that's respected, but the way you said it seemed rather disrespectful of those that already said they liked it, for example saying you felt stupid for watching it seemed uncessary. And please do not use the word retarded in that manner, using it to say something is stupid is disrespectful to those people with mental illness, I might just be senseitive about this because I have a nephew with Autism and thus am sensitive when it comes to that. As for the villains plans, yeah they are outlandish but so are many villains from the time period in other shows, they weren't meant to take practical approaches because they each represented a eco-problem and acted like that personified.

That could've been a lot more respectful, Cone. Although you do raise points as to the show's flaws, as Godzillawolf said, there are much nicer ways of saying it.
