I was wondering whether or not anyone else watches this show? I think it's amazing! The chemistry between the four girls is great and they're all wonderful actresses. I currently own seasons 2,3,4,5,6 on DVD and hope to get the others when I can. I have so many favourite episodes it would be impossible for me to list them all

I made this post also to honor the memory of Bea Arthur who died yesterday and of course Estelle Getty who passed away a few months ago.

I sometimes watch the Golden Girls,my favorite one is Sophia.

I like the golden girls but I barely watch it anymore.

I love Rose and Sophia. They're my favs.

It is not surprising to me that you've resurrected yet another long-dead topic, which is frowned upon here.

However, since I also like The Golden Girls, I am not going to report this one.




And to the topic generally, I'll give my input, as I didn't even know this topic had existed. While I love Betty White, and think she's a fantastic actress who knows how to be cool, my favorite character in the series (like most people who love the series) is the wise-cracking old Sicilian bitty Sophia. Being of part-Italian heritage myself, I can appreciate the character. (Even though she always reminded me of an older Judge Judy...lol) And I am certainly not surprised that she has the most votes in this topic...she was easily the funniest character!

It is interesting to note that Estelle Getty, who played her, was a little over a year YOUNGER than Bea Arthur, who played her daughter. The great Bea Arthur, of course, passed away just a year later than Estelle. (It's also worth noting that, of the actresses who played the four main characters of the series, only Betty White hasn't passed away...though each had made their mark in Hollywood history doing some great television series and movies.)

Sophia as a character had made such an impact in the series, she appeared in four others on television (with Estelle always playing her): The Golden Palace (a spin-off of The Golden Girls, in which Bea Arthur didn't appear, and which only ran two seasons), Empty Nest (with Betty White and Bea Arthur), and guest appearances in Nurses and Blossom.
