Tying in with Kiche's adoption rant - viewtopic.php?f=23&t=24975 - I'm wondering if you should have a "Bad Adoptions" rule, similar to the "Bad Renders" rule.

I KNOW- it would be very hard to moderate- AT FIRST. But soon people will get used to it.

Here's how I think it could be moderated- much like fan images and fan characters. NOTE: Both of these relate to the topic itself, not the posters.

NOT ALLOWED

Badly-coloured linearts
Bad renders
Characters without a bio
First-come first-served batches
Stolen characters.

REQUIRED

A bio.
A decent pic, showing all markings.
PREFERABLY evidence of where the character has been used.

That's how I think it should be. As Kiche mentioned in her rant, otherwise, isn't this ironically like all those puppy mills all us BSer's hate, despise, loath and detest so much? And, looking from a site point of view- it's terrible spam. Ever seen the message "The board attachment quota has been reached."? Well I PMed Steet about it once and he told me that it's already huge (the attachment quota) and that he had to increase it again. Well, I say ALOT of those are from adoptions- therefore pointless spam.

SO I think we should gradually phase out 'bad adoptions'. Because I KNOW that new members think this looks like a hell of a lot of fun to make cute puppies and give them to people! How do I know? Because it wasn't THAT long ago that I was new, and I very NEARLY made an adoption topic until I saw that a lot of the older, more popular and responsible members found it annoying so I stopped myself just in time lol.

I think the first step should be to make an announcement about it- and in the first month begin to lock all 'first come, first served' adoptions. Then the next month or two faze out badly coloured renders and linearts (because these are not allowed on the site, so WHY spam up the forum?) then make a bio a MUST. Or the other way around, bio first then the crap pictures.

Because adoptions are a great idea ONLY if executed properly. which at the moment, they clearly aren't.

EDIT: Also, the rules of it wouldn't be super duper strict. Obviously it would be up to the mods to make exceptions if they see the topic is run well.

I think it would certainly help keep the adoptions board a little neater - god knows it could use some filtering 9.9 Sounds good to me, but then I don't know how the mods would feel about being given -another- area to patrol :P Wait 'n' see I guess.

The thing is, even thought the adopties are bad, people still adopt them, and that's what it's about, and if someone wants the char, they make the bio to suit them, because it could be an awsome char but the bio saying he/she is "Evil" or like 10 years old. Otherwise, it is a good idea.

Good ideas Vivid. ^^ Frankly, I don't see the big deal. RP mods delete spam RP's, so why can't Adoption mods delete spam adoption topics? We need experienced members to moniter the pages though...perhaps someone who is on the forums constantly and who also executes the adoption topics properly?

I think this is a topic the Mods should be involved in...>.>

Anyways, I agree with the whole 'badly colored lineart and renders deal', but the bios...I'm not so sure. I think its great that you want to tighten the reins on the whole puppy mill idea, you know, where people just spew out random pups and call it a day, but, agreeing with zasha10, I don't think the bios should list much. Just the breed and age maybe, but otherwise it should be up to the adopter to choose the criteria for the bios on the topic(as in the ones describing the adoptees, not the ones the members have to create in order to apply for adoption).

So, if we were to crack down on the adoption issue:

- Active Adoption moderators
- only allow well-colored lineart, renders, and art
- only allow used animals
- adoption executors must attatch short bio to each animal up for adoption (Breed, age, ect.)

My thoughts anyways...

Yes, your completely right WWM. Same with you both, Zasha and Kiche.

Like I said, there would be exceptions. But they way WWM said is generally full-proof. Thanks for the support, everyone ;) The main thing is that I think the adoption section would be interesting if it wasn't all spam. And spam is no exception anywhere else (Forum Games aside) so why should it be in adoptions?

Another Rule to add is "No More Head Only Pics" I mean c'mon weve probably all been on a topic where they only show the head of a char and say "ADOPT IT!" but you have no idea what the rest of it looks like.

I agree of what Zasha has to say about that, I do believe I saw a topic with just teh heads of the Characters, on it. But you pretty much have to guess the rest. Are they really that lazy to come up with a full body design or what?

Yeah, that too. It's not like if you're adopting a dog at the pound and they pass you it's head and say 'oh you can make the rest however you like' XD

Can a moderator take care of this? I think a "specific rules" topic in the adoptions section can be a good idea.

How about a specific rules topic in the Contests section? I mean its obviously a no-brainer, but I'm SO SICK AND TIRED of seeing "CONTESTS" for mates or whatever the next stupid fad is, packs or whatever, and have there be NO PRIZES. And no one has a problem with this??? Why aren't people like:

Quote:
What's the prize? My character gets to be your character's mate? That's the prize!? Do I get any gift-art!? Do I even get a render at least?? Not even a fanfic???

Exactly. No prizes. In a contest. That is LAME. I think if there was a rule for this, then it'd cut back on even more spam.

Sounds fair, and frankly, I'm sick of seeing "MATE FOR MY CHARRIE!!!!1!!!1!" all over the entire board. ¬¬

Anyone got more suggestions on "rules" to be put in a contests rules topic?

So far:
Must have actual prizes for the participants to win.

I'd say any rules of the adoption topic could be included (at least ones that say effort must be put into them).

Requirements are required xD Nothing that says "MARY-SUE NEEDS A MATE AND IT MUST BE A BOY AND THATS IT"

And how about one contest at a time? And then a lock to any contests that are done. Personally I think its a good idea xD

Oh, and maybe the ones that have like five "bumps" in a row in a feeble attempt to bring it back to life as well. Cuz obviously if you need to revive it that many times, no one wants to join your contest xD

Yes, it's a good idea to have contests stricter as well. I'll quote from an old rant I made:

Quote:
Contests VS Requests

Let me define CONTEST:
A contest is where members submit their entries in hopes of winning said prize.
The two most common kinds of prizes are;
A) A drawing/rendering/signature/background/avatar/whatever request,
or B) Entered character(s) being featured in fan works (fan arts, fan fictions, fan images etc.)
There are other types of prizes, but these are definitely the most common.
Contests have set rules that entrants must follow.

Let me define REQUEST:
There are two types of requests.
Type A) Is where a member accepts other members' request for a certain type of fan work, free of charge of any kind. These usually have rules that members must follow.
Type B) Is where a member asks for a specific type of image or art usually of one of their characters. These usually have guidelines that members should follow.

An easy way to tell the difference: if it's got a prize/prizes, it's a contest. PLEASE put them in the right section!

Quote:
"Mate" Contests

Now, these aren't that bad, they're valid contest and all. But what annoys me is how many there are! And most of them, if they're not just posting for the sake of posting, they've completely disregarded all other mate contests and just made their own without a second thought. And what's wrong with having your own character as your other character's mate, anyway? And not every character has to be paired off on the moment of creation. Just give it time, write a non-love fic for once.

Also, for "Design What's-Her-Face's Second Litter!" These are okay if you do it ONCE. After that, it's plain annoying! Seriously, what ever happened to the fun of designing your own characters?

And "Design So-and-So's Pack!" If you actually knew your character's history, you'd know who their pack were. Very few of these are actually drawn. How hard is it to make up a couple of names and a general appearance to throw into your fanfic? It's not like you're going to say

Scout number two was mostly black and had icy blue eyes that were based in yellow. He had white markings on his feet, his tail tip, an un-even patch over his eye, golden tiger-stripe patterns on his back and one half floppy ear but the other one was straight. He said "They're coming this way," and then he was never used again in this fanfic.

So, all in all, what ever happened to creativity? I can understand in some cases (I've made contests myself), but who wants to live their life tagging every single character they use as not belonging to them?

That's my stand on contests XD So I definitely agree. I think that there MUST be evidence of previous use of the character (ie; a character page where you can actually see that it's featured in things, not a character page you made in two seconds) and I think you should always state what you're going to do after the contest is over. And don't say you'll make a 'design puppies!!1!' contest either X_X.
