I've been getting attacked with questions about how I draw and Photoshop lately, so I thought I'd make this where anyone can ask and answer questions. Hopefully some of you will find it useful, I'll also make a list of Questions & Answers in this main post, so please be aware of that before you ask/answer anything you don't want slapped at the top of the topic. ;] Only the first correct answer will be posted here.
I'll post a few short ones I've been asked before just to start things off.
Q) What do you draw with? What's the best program?I use a Wacom Bamboo Tablet and Adobe Photoshop CS3. I'd say the best program out now is CS4, though there aren't any major differences. And it's all down to personal preferance. I know some people who prefer paint to Photoshop.
Where can I get Photoshop? It's available for a months free trial, simply download from the
Adobe website.
I strongly recommnd you try it out before purchase, as it is a very expensive program and you may find that you prefer a cheaper - maybe even free - alternative.
How do you shade?Cell shading and a method I don't know the name of. xD A friend said it was called gradient so I'll go with that. I'll be making a tutorial for both methods of shading soon. There are othrs too, you could use the dodge/burn tool in Photoshop and GIMP too I believe. Find a style that suits you.
How do you get a fur-like texture like http://baltosource.timduru.org/art/Deni_Like_for_the_first_time/2-1-356-495.html&display=18this?(Note: As most of you will know the example pic is by Deni. They asked how we used that effect but since I don't have an example at the moment I needed to borrow this one. xD)
Well I don't kow about Deni. But the way I get that efect is by using the burn tool to draw out the strands of fur. It's simple really. Just practice, and don't scribble! It will look a mess if you do. I promised the person who asked that I would use that method in my step by step (Part of a series of tutorials I'm working on) so keep an eye out for that if you're unsure.
When i am using brush tools, with just one click about five of them scatter all over the page. is there a way to stop the brushes from scattering, and to make only one brush come with one click of the mouse? You need to first open the brush tab and then uncheck the scattering box, and make sure 'spacing' under Brush Tip Shape is set to roughly 25%. Those are my settings.
On the top right side of the screen there are some tabs. colour, styles, swatches etc. when i first got photoshop i accidently clicked on the cross on the brushes tab and deleted it. ( you used it to make different brushes i think.) is there a way to get it back on?Yes, whenever I do this by aident I select Window > Workspace > Default Workspace.
How do you use effects on photoshop? Most effects are available under Filter.
What is the best way to draw tree's on photoshop? There are lots of different ways and even a Filter that gives the ffect. I startedout by using the dodge and burn tool, however I recommend you heck on DeviantART for tutorials and reference from photos of real trees to find the effect you like.
