Ok this is just a random idea I had and I just want to know what everyone thinks of it. I will warn you now that the main characters are dragons, but I haven't really tried to make it too fantastical.

Ok so it is based round about 20 years ago, dragons are more or less an everyday thing and can talk to humans, and they are counted as pets/servants/workers etc. It is set in a manor house, and there are lots of worker dragons in like the kitchens and stuff, they have kind of replaced maids and butlers. The Lord and Lady of the manor had been entrusted with a baby female about 14 years ago, and she is always kept upstairs and the staff hardly ever see her. The main character is about her age, so if you thinks this sounds good then PLEASE leave a comment so I know whether I should bother to continue or not.
Anyway here is Chapter 1.
--------------------------------

‘What can you see?’
‘I see all, you know that, what do you want me to see, I need you to be specific.’
‘I need you to find her, she must be found, everything is in alignment, everything is ready, and she must be found.’
‘I will look, but patience is needed, we have time yet.’ She looked up to the night sky, it was true, everything was right and she must be found soon, otherwise they would never find her, and that would bring doom upon them all. Slowly she lowered her gaze to the pool in front of her, the moon reflected on its clear surface.
‘Seek.’

Tarin splashed at the murky water, a few grey bubbles popped and the yellow grease floating on the surface bobbed up and down like a ship on a stormy sea. He stuck out his tongue; this was disgusting, all those dirty dishes were making him feel a bit queasy, and he had to clean them. It was his fault really, he was meant to have done them that afternoon but instead he had gone down to the stables. And now it was the middle of the night, everyone else was asleep and he was stuck cleaning mashed potato off of cheap china crockery. He reached for the scrubbing brush, but took another look at the thick, dark green soup in the sink and sighed; he would just have to be told off tomorrow because he was not touching that. He withdrew his hand from the plastic box of scrubbing brushes and jumped down from the stool by the sink. He let out a huge yawn, it was late and he needed sleep. The kitchen was a great place to sleep, all the machines hummed gently and the cooker slowly heated the whole room. Slowly and quietly so as not to wake anyone, Tarin crept towards the room which was used as a bedroom by all the kitchen staff. Voices coming from down the corridor made him stop and listen, they were faint whispers but his keen ears could hear them quite well.
‘And the stupid maid didn’t think to check first’ one voice said, almost proudly. Tarin recognised to voice, it was Lord Faalow. The voices were coming from Lord Faalow’s private study, which was usually kept locked, but know one of the doors was ajar.
‘So she has the drink with her? Will she have already drunk it?’ a second voice asked, Tarin didn’t recognise this one but it sounded cold, unfeeling, it made him want to dive under his covers and hide.
‘No, she waits until everyone is asleep, and my Lady only went to bed a few minutes ago, she should drink it soon though’ Lord Faalow replied. Tarin frowned, who were they talking about? It wouldn’t be any of the staff, they didn’t get drinks at night, and the only other person he could think of was the Lady Aquaris.
‘Good. Tomorrow there will be a big celebration, or a funeral if everything goes to plan, her family will be outraged and we can blame whoever we want, we can finally get rid of those dragon outcasts on the border’ the unknown voice said, and there was the sound of moving chairs and someone started to walk around the room. ‘When will the poison begin to take effect?’ the unknown voice asked, and Tarin finally understood what they were talking about, there were trying to poison Lady Aquaris! Thoughts rushed wildly around his head. Why would they want to kill Lady Aquaris? Was she dead already? Without really thinking he ran up the stairs as quietly as he could, if he could just reach Lady Aquaris in time then maybe he could save her. He turned to corner to enter Lady Aquaris’ room, but tripped over his own feet and sprawled onto her floor.
‘Oh’ said a surprised voice, a voice that sounded like music to Tarin’s ears, like little tinkling bells and soft running water. He looked up and saw, for the first time, Lady Aquaris. She was a soft silvery blue, and her scales shone softly even in the dark, and each of her scales seemed to be edged with a pale purple. Her deep green eyes sparkled and Tarin found himself transfixed by them. She was grasping the cup with her front paws, the thick liquid inside clearly visible in the glass.
‘U-u-um, uh, my Lady’ Tarin said, quickly scrabbling to his feet and bowing his head, staring down at his feet in embarrassment.
‘Yes, what is it?’ Lady Aquaris said softly, she had such a gentle way of speaking, and Tarin had to stop himself from sighing.
‘Your, um, drink, it’s out of date, it is going off, the maid asked me to get you a fresh one’ Tarin said, praying that she would buy his excuse, if he was caught he would be punished so badly that he probably wouldn’t be able to walk, no dragon was allowed up here without permission, especially a male.
‘Oh, ok, it looks alright though’ Lady Aquaris said, peering into her cup, ‘but if it’s out of date then you should take it.’ She held the cup out, but didn’t get up from the chair she was sitting in. Tarin stood dumbstruck for a moment, before hurriedly walking forwards and gently taking the cup from her paws. He stared up at her for a moment and his eyes met hers, just for a second, before Lady Aquaris smiled and looked out of the huge windows. Tarin knew the sign and quickly backed out of her room.

Back in the kitchen, Tarin poured the poisoned drink down the sink, scrubbing it three times before placing it back on the sideboard to be cleaned tomorrow. He grabbed another cup, and mixed up a new drink, he had seen the maid do it so many times that he knew the recipe off by heart. As soon as he had finished, he crept back upstairs, careful not to make any noise and also not to trip like last time. He poked his head round the corner of the door; Lady Aquaris was still sitting in the chair, staring out of the window with a sleepy look on her face. Tarin coughed, and Lady Aquaris’ head snapped round to look at him.
‘Your drink, Lady Aquaris’ Tarin said, walking forwards and holding it out to her. She took it gently, and looked over the strange little kitchen dragon. He was young, probably about her age, and a dirty chocolate colour, with streaks of tan down his sides. His eyes were wide, and a clear blue in colour, but had a tinge of purple around his pupil. His front paws were a completely different colour, a greyish purple, and they were dull, like they were covered in dust.
‘Thank you’ she whispered, raising the cup to her mouth. ‘That will be all’ she mumbled, the cup muffling her voice slightly. Tarin nodded and turned around, trotting out of the door. Bangs from downstairs made him jump, and he rushed down to the sleeping room.

Lallai was lying against a wall, her eyes shut and her breathing slow and gentle. Tarin smiled to himself, Lallai was everyone’s mum, she was the boss of the kitchen and liked to make sure everyone was doing their job. He crept over to her, stepping over tails and legs on the way, last time he had stepped on someone’s tail he had had bite marks all over his leg for weeks. He poked Lallai gently in the side, and she woke slowly, grunting a few times before opening her eyes.
‘Tarin! What is it?’ she grumbled, looking at the young scrawny dragon sleepily.
‘Have you ever met the Lady Aquaris?’ Tarin asked, shifting his weight slightly, he didn’t want to be caught out by Lallai.
‘Yes, twice, the first time I only saw her, I happened to be walking past the stairs when she did, and the second time the maid asked me to take in her drink, we had a nice conversation, she seemed quite nice. Why?’ Lallai asked curiously.
‘Just wondering that’s all’ Tarin said.
‘Well, I overheard Lord Faalow saying that tomorrow she is going to be going outside and we all get to meet her’ Lallai said, and closed her eyes again. A small smile crept onto Tarin’s mouth; he would get to meet Lady Aquaris without being told off. He lay down next to Lallai, and slowly fell asleep.
