Alright, some people could say that Duke was the film's villain but he really only seemed like a villain from the Mail Teams perspective, he was a little arrogent but that doesn't make him the film's villain. Even if he was, he stopped being a villain halfway through. I think this film could've used somekind of villain, maybe some large predator stalking them in the last part of the movie or maybe the entire movie but used suspencefully. What do you guys think?

I was not bashing Stella, I was merely putting the option for fun because a lot of people seem to hate her. I personally thought a love intrest for Boris was a good idea, just he and Stella weren't very compatable. Anyway, thanks for the history, it does shed light on the movie. It reminds me of Steven Spilburg's Duel where the villain was a truck whose driver really didn't appear very much, making the truck seem more of the villain, completely off topic but just brought that to mind. Discussion is what I wanted. I respect your opinions for why the movie didn't need a nasty obvious villain. Though all films in my mind need some sort of enemy force against the heroes. After the bush plane crashed was what I was proposing another villainious character, as that part was lacking somewhat in the suspence department.

I made this to discuss wether or not the movie could've used another villain and something I forgot to mention was if there was such a character, what would they be? With Jersey's information, a very plasuable villain in my senero (In the second half of the film) would be a musher who wants to make sure that Duke isn't rescued so that, in the man's mind, he couldn't take his livelyhood away. Maybe a little dark for a film like this but then again, the second two films could've used a bit darker tone to be more fitting to the original.

Anyway, that's my opinion, you have yours and I respect that so please respect mine.

The respect thing was to make sure everyone knew to respect everyones opinions, I'm sorry if you misinterupted it or I wasn't clear. If it bothers you that much, just ask and I'll remove the Stella anwser.

Yes, you're correct with that assumption on the dogs but my idea was someone taking it to an extreme, ether a human or another dog. Its very possible for someone facing the loss of their job to take it to an extreme and it would not of been a nasty villain and I felt it fit the overall theme for a dog, who could well of been introduced earlier during the race, to have that motive. Theses are of course suggestions.

Alright, I removed it.

True, though I don't have access to the movie easily. Though there is the possbility someone with that idea will have help from this. Mostly its just a disscussion and nothing more.

Alright now if you WOULD add a villain to this film, what would you have made them. This isn't that you would, just what kind you think would've be a beneifit to the film.

I think sometimes people get to could up in the idea of an overly simplified hero vs. villain scenario while all that is needed is any form of protagonist vs. antagonist. Balto 3 does a great job of presenting an issue that gives it's characters tangible motives without having to force some cheesy two-bit evildoer upon the viewers. I thought this was also done well in Wolf Quest, Niju wasn't "evil" he was afraid of change and was willing to risk the lives of everyone he knew to prevent that change. Duke is a very likable character and like Jersey Captain said it presents the viewer of a bit of a conundrum as whether or not to like him which is the mark of good writing.

All of your points are very good and have sound ground. Particularally Jersey Captains, wich made since that the plane itself was meant to be a villain as opposed to Duke, the more I think about that, the more sense it makes. And yes, they didn't need a sterotypical villain. What I was saying for the second half, after the plane crashed, was were one may of helpped the drama, getting to Duke and Boris before they froze to death was dramatic but it didn't entirely have the sense of urgency the other two movies had at their climax. But if a villain wasn't deeded, what might of helpped is maybe a blizzard at the end. Though Balto nearly falling off a cliff was dramatic, overall it lacked the sense of urgency.

I think Steele should have come back as the villain.

I think that by the time the plane crashed it may have been a little late in the movie to introduce a new character (Though I suppose you mean some character that would have been present throughout the film but played a small role until then). The focus of the movie does a near 180 after Balto realizes Duke's plane crashed and Kodi becomes the antagonist but refusing to help find Duke because he want's to keep his job. I thought that was a perfect way to present the second half of the film, Kodi never feels any emotion toward Duke other than contempt and maybe some jealousy (as the plane IS faster than the dogs) so having him continue to back his teammates instead of Balto was right in line with his character.
