So I was in my math class when one of the girls (who never shuts her mouth) decided to tell the teacher about her weekend with her boyfriend. Apparently she went to his ranch and was chasing the chickens around the pens when an angry rooster attacked her (I would've done the same). She ran out, but labeled the rooster as evil for attacking her. Later she was playing with her boyfriend's bee bee gun (don't know how to spell it) and decided to shoot at the 'evil' rooster. Of course her boyfriend was there and had told her it was okay. So she shoots at it, misses, and hits an older rooster in the neck. From what she said it caused the rooster to have a seizure and then they watched it die. Then they carried the body to the edge of the property and threw it over the fence so her boyfriend's mother wouldn't find it. Besides what she'd done to the rooster in the first place, what really bothered me was that she insisted that her actions were justified because she'd accidentally hit the wrong rooster! She also said that she thought the bee bee gun was harmless (I’ve used one before; they can put holes in cans from about ten yards away, obviously not harmless). Our teacher told her it was cruelty but didn't sound like she was serious because she was smiling as she said it. Everyone in our class who was listening said it was wrong, but they were laughing! Meanwhile I was resisting the urge to punch her. I almost lost it when she said "it doesn't matter, chickens were born to die." Even if that was true she'd said that the rooster that she'd killed had been old, so apparently that one wasn't born to die.
*Sigh* I felt so alone in my class (not the first time) because it seemed that I was the only one who was horrified by it and I want to hear everyone's opinion on this.

Yes, it's very disturbing what some people do. It's really, really sad.

This does bother me. Humans have this high and mighty attude that we're the only animals whose lives matter. That's not right. Depending on your views, Christians believe god loves all creatures, Buddists believe we're reincarnated as other animals, so if you were to tell this story to a Buddist, they'd be horrified, Hindu are the same way, not sure about Islam but considering they're considered a partial offshoot of Christianity, they probably have simmular views in that respect, and most scientists believe humans are animals that are smarter, so in their view we're no more importent than that rooster. So what I'm saying this, in most beliefs on Earth, this would defiently be considered wrong. I think this is a cruel thing. Yes, chickens are bred for food but that doesn't mean we can laugh about killing one, we should see it like the Native Americans did, the animal should be respected, even when we kill one for food, we should give them our respect.

I like what you've said. I never thought about how different religions veiw animals (I'm atheist). When I was younger I would cry in church about the mention of sacrificing animals, I scared my teacher when I asked if they could sacrifice humans instead. I'm not vegitarian, though I hate the thought of killing animals, because (as science says) we are animals to and as animals we are omnivours. I still can't believe that she doesn't feel guilty about killing a rooster, I feel guilty when I kill a bug that got into my room (poor things).

I'm Christian but I enjoy studying all the other religions, I see no reason not to because I think everyones beliefs should be respected but I can not respect someone who feels justified doing this to an animal. There is another thread here that says animal abuse leads to human abuse. If you've read the Bible, it says God made man as caretaker for the Gardian of Eden, thus of all the animals. You explained your beliefs so I explained mine. I'm also part Native American, which may pertain to my love of animals, as they believed animals should always be respected. So that's my belief but as I said, nearly every religion on Earth believes in being humane to animals, particularally Budists and Hindus.

eh, as my mother always say, humans are the only animals that kill for fun and your classmate is the perfect example...ok, it was a chicken but his reaction was normal and natural, it happened the same with me but I didn't kill it, I ran away because the chicken was running after me D: (that's a laughing thing) and not all the chicken were born to die and, honestly, your class mates are as dumb as her for laughing about this...you should hit her! >8D

I find it annoying when people at my school act all high and mighty about being christian (some are even rude to people of other religions), and then not long after they're in the bathrooms doing drugs or something. *Sigh* People today make me fear the future. saske italian wolf wrote: eh, as my mother always say, humans are the only animals that kill for fun and your classmate is the perfect example...ok, it was a chicken but his reaction was normal and natural, it happened the same with me but I didn't kill it, I ran away because the chicken was running after me D: (that's a laughing thing) and not all the chicken were born to die and, honestly, your class mates are as dumb as her for laughing about this...you should hit her! >8D Well, this is something I read in a Jane Goodall book in the library, Chimpanzees are the only animals besides humans who have been known to wage war and kill for no reason. I blame it on being so closely related to us though. When I was a toddler and an angry goose attacked me, my dad fended it off with a chair like a lion tamer, he didn't kill it. I probably would have hit her if it hadn't of been at school. In elementary school (when rules were less strict) I used to beat up the kids who tormented the schools lizards and stabbed the tarantulas (which there were a surprising amount of).

Well it was time to waste and me and all of my friends (only 4 of us) were talking, and i dont know how but wolves came into the topic and i was called on by the loudest mouth ever!! So we were talking about people contaminating cows dead body's to kill the wolves. so he said, Why do we have wolves any way?? What are they good for, we can live without the retard wolves. (that cought my attetin. Why do you ask, isnt it simple?!! The wolves help us live on the earth, in fact our human population would be down by millons if wolves were killed off! They eat the sick, and bring down strong!! Lets see you mister tough guy do that!! Sickness would be all over, we would be dead if we had no wolves!! What if i said the same thing about cows! We can live off the earth and not produce. That shut him up and he didnt try to argu with me the rest of the day. Hope you feel the same way. I hate thos kind of people! You could also bring up the fact that if it weren't for wolves we wouldn't have Dogs and possibly wouldn't be around today without their tracking skills (I, for one, have always thought cave people teamed up with them for that) I heard a similar conversation when Coyotes became a problem around where I live. A few kids said "Let's just kill them all." If that happened I'd be the first to laugh when rabbits and other Coyote prey became the problem. It's called the food chain and we learned about it in first grade people!
