Now I’m usually not a ranter and usually put up with most things however recently it has really began to annoy me because nearly every second post in particular forums are comparing something to something else. What annoys me about these, ‘What do you like best…’ or 'this vs that' or ‘Which one is better..’ etc: is that the poster is usually comparing two completely different things! For example (just picking something random) when someones trying to compare Harry Potter to Twilight and they’re asking which is better but what is actually similar between these two that can really be compared to each other?

I understand when you want to see if someone prefers coffee or tea or if they like Harry Potter 1 or 3 better but why are people constantly comparing two subjects that have abosultely nothing to do with each other? There must be literally hundreds (ok yes I exaggerate but any way ) of posts comparing Balto to other dogs movies when the only similarity is that they have main characters that are dogs; in this case what is there to actually compare other than the use of dog characters?

These threads I’ve noticed usually turn in arguments because there is actually nothing to compare between two completely different things so the thread actually ends in people’s personal preferences on two completely different things which is understandable and usually when two people share different thoughts again an arguement usually follows. Why do people feel the need to compare two different things? I often feel its because they want to say how cool one thing is and how bad something else and then hope to rally others who agree and thus a flame war begins. If you want to start a topic on something you like then just start a topic about it not about how much better or worse it is then somehting completely irrelevant. Stop comparing apples and oranges....

Anyone else sick of these threads as well?

Yeah, I'm kinda sick of them too. The constant comparisons between Balto and Bolt are the ones that really annoy me.

*nodes* I totally agree of what you are saying but I really don't give a crap for either of them so that is my answer, but yeah they are as annoying as talking about Jonas brothers and Hannah Montana...

They are also as annoying those bashing the Jonas Brothers or Hannah Montana...

But Kay, I totally agree! The most common kind of thing I see in these topics is where a few members are civilly discussing why they prefer, say, Balto to Bolt, then another member says "don't flame BOLT! some people like bolt you know!!!" and then the topic goes downhill from there.

And the main cause of this is the topic itself. The original post is something like:

"which do you like better, bolt or balto? :bom:"

How can you expect good, calm and interesting discussion to come from that? Simple answer- you can't. If, by some freak, historical event, there is some calm debate, the original poster just abandons their topic and then goes and makes:

"hmm which one do you like best, balto 2 or lady and the tramp 2?"

It's a frustrating process.

These kinds of threads don't bother me too much, their titles do however. "Which is better, (insert name of book/movie/person/etc here) or (insert name of book/movie/person/etc here)?" Honestly, you can't ask that question because it assumes the idea that one of these things is superior to the other according to the OP (original poster). A better way to ask a question such as this one would be: "Which do you prefer, (same as above quoted question) or (same as above quoted question)?" If people typed this as their title or poll question, I believe we could avoid all comparisons of 'apples and oranges' as you say.

Yeah, this tends to be annoying when they say "Balto or Titanic?", "Titanic or The Queen?", "The Queen or Bolt". It just goes on and on and on. It doesn't stop.

The difference between them two are:
JK Rowling is a good writer.
The writer of Twlight is not.

But those aren't as bad, because the two movies are sort of similar, and this is a Balto and TLK website. Not a Harry Potter and Twilight and Bolt and Ginga forum.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot Warriors.
