The future of the earth is often thought about. Considering what we're doing to our planet, the global struggles including the economy, strife between countries, and even the availability of food in water. What do you think is in store for the decade of 2050 and beyond?
(Note: Please be realistic, I intend for this to be an intellectual topic in which we seriously discuss the possibilities of where the planet and human civilization will be in forty years.)

Ah, the future. I believe we're gonna have a substitution for fossil fuels(i'll make sure of that). The climate will follow its natural course get warmer before it gets cools off(and then warm again). Poilitcaly, the warmer weather will open up more resources to quarrel over. The US having most of it's resources already unlocked will most likely make an excuse and try to obtain these resources with no regard for who owns them. Ultmately, the other country (or countries) might take militaristic action against them. The nature of humans won't change such a short time either. We will still be greedy and lazy, but willing to work hard if it means well be better off.

I think things will follow the same course they have for hundrids of years, some good times will occure after this globle recession is done with, then 50 to 100 years later another crisis will occure. Humans will continue to devolpe as a species, as we have been. We are in fact far less violent than we once were, despite what some say, we were once barberians that fought each other no stop, now we're still somewhat barberic but we only go to war once in awhile. This is an honist oppinion, I'm one of the people who believe aliens gave the Mayans Eygptions, ect. more advanced technology, but only what they could handle. I think sooner or later they'll return to grant us more advanced technology, once we're ready for it. This might be for example, a type of energy that won't require fossile fuels. Don't think I'm a nutcase or something for thing this, its a theory many scientists support.

I don't really see the logic behind aliens granting humanity technology in our past. If the Mayans truly were given such technology, I'd imagine they'd be able to fight off a few gold hungry Spaniards? I don't know....there appears to be compelling evidence that the ancient civilizations themselves tried to communicate with aliens, from those large "airstrips" that were constructed by them, in which the only way to view the entire work is from sky. But unless there have been artifacts retrieved that are clearly unearthly and/or consist of a foreign chemical composition, I'm going to stick with the idea that any technological advancements were found by the Aztec/Incan/Mayan/Egyptian/etc civilizations themselves. But granted, we may never know. My assumption is that, if they had superior technology, they would still be around to this day.
But, I have several theories in regards to the future. The climate change is a huge problem, and will likely only get worse. If humanity does not take steps to improvement, then I'd imagine that we can expect a hurricane like Katrina to be the norm, an average hurricane. I also think that there will be large scale wars in which people fight each other for the basic needs of life, like food and water. I also think the oil companies will be perpetrating lots of shady operations to accommodate their selfish aims. For, even they probably realized they they are more or less finished, and, will go out with a big boom. If that means encouraging global wars over oil, then they will. I also speculate that there will be large oxygen reactors at the center of cities, due to urbanization and the reduction of plant life. Most of the oxygen produced does come from the ocean, but it is very possible that the ocean will be polluted to an extent that it cannot support life.
Just some of my thoughts.

I said tehcnology that they were ready for, most of what people think they got were building and astronimy, which isn't useful in combat, except for walls. The most common assumption is they believed the aliens were Gods, thus why in some cases sightings of aliens today match ancient Gods the person didn't know. I have a more positive outlook on our future, I believe humans have a lot of devolpment to go but as a species, we're getting better. Yes, humans are still self destructive to an extent but we're not nearly as self destructive as we once were. Once, even a slight disagreement could start a full blown war, now we're more likely to talk it over than start a war. Sure, this last war on Iraq had no point but that's a rarity theses days. We're working on the climent problem, Hydrogen fuel cars are already in devolpment. Deforestation is the most major problem in my mind and with the advent of computers, we might not need paper anymore. Though there are those who think 2012 is the end of the world, I don't and its very unlikely and I'm getting sick and tired of people thinking it.

In 2050 we'll all be living just like we are now. Only we'll be slightly older, and the world will be a much warmer place because of pollution.

We'll have flying cars, and live in underwater cities like the little mermaid.
Ok, now that I got that out of my system, I don't see the world changing too much. The biggest things I see changing (If ever so slightly) is technology. Un-manning the war-lines (we're getting there step by step), better prediction/warning systems for meteorlogical disasters (Tornados, hurricanes, etc), alternative fuels (Hopefully wind energy for electricity, and maybe hydrogen for transport? I'm sick of electric cars being the future). Aside from that, We'll still have wars, we'll still have crime (Which sucks), but we'll still be basically the same. Not that much can really change in 40 years (Well, drastically change).
The 2012 theory isn't an end of the world theory. It's a civilization shift. It could mean the planet will change polarity (It's been theorised that it has done it before, thanks to fossilized troppical plant life found in the polar ice cores). Could mean any of a million things. Or maybe somehow we as a planet will finally get out of debt. Think about it, most of us are seriously in debt, to the point of becoming bankrupt as a country. I hope for that to be true, but I highly highly doubt it will.
As for the alien technology theory, I feel it's actually pretty sound. Some of the things I've seen so far in my chosen career have made me think how any human on earth could think up something so complicated and whatnot. Do I believe in aliens? Absolutely. It's kinda hard to fathom that we are alone in the entire universe/space. Actually, it's rediculously crazy to think that.

I'm not on that bandwagon of thought about this whole "aliens gave us technology" thing. I think it's utterly ridiculous. Albert Einstein was a brilliant man and I doubt I will ever find out how he came to some of the conclusions that he did. I'm not about to say that aliens beamed down Albert Einstein. I'm sorry, but until someone who believes these things shows me a glowing pick-axe that can split a meter thick boulder in half with a tap, I'm not buying it. And/or name a scientist who believes it too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but saying "ah....that's a little difficult to understand/fathom.....must be something created by aliens", is a little un-scientific in nature.

I don't believe that aliens came around with all technology. Just saying, a few things here and there, I wouldn't be surprised. I can see both sides of the fence and I do realise it could be hard for people to accept something like this theory. It's surrounded by controversy which is no surprise in itself. dealing with the unkown, and the close to unknown. Point is, until we figure out 100% how they did it (Which...I don't think would be in our time), it's a very sound theory. I find it hard to believe that the Mayans could know so much about the universe without some kind of way to see it (Uhm...telescope and the like) and map it out and such. But that's a theory too. It's usually one or the other, both have good arguements, both have flaws.

Guys, I'm all for supporting our views and all but some of you aren't being respectful of other peoples views, Marine, I'm not talking to you. starsky_Hiro wrote: Godzillawolf wrote: We are in fact far less violent than we once were, despite what some say, we were once barberians that fought each other no stop, now we're still somewhat barberic but we only go to war once in awhile. Yeah right, do you allways belive in all that comes out of your mouth? Back then they fought for survival, Today we fight because were told to.....which is more barbaristic? Killing to survive or killing for no reason? The first sentence in your reply is kind of insulting. You can defend your point and all but you don't have to say it in that reason. I was refering to the Middle Ages, when kings just wanting any excuse to kill one another and get the others land. And at least we don't skin each other alive anymore, as some ancient races did. Today, yes we have wars but we're not nearly as brutal, for the most part, we don't kill civilians as often, there are exceptions, but most counties try to keep civilians out of harms way. The aliens thing isn't that everything we can't explain is alien. One of the reasons is some aliens sighted today match perfectly with ancient depictions of gods, that the people reporting the sightings didn't know of. Think about it, if you were an ancient Mayan and some alien came down from the sky, you'd probably call it a god. And maybe it wasn't exactly technology, it could've been instructions on how to make their structures and map the heavens. But as said, this isn't proven but its a solid theory and if you don't believe it, don't call it 'utterly ridiculous', please respect that some of us believe this theory, I respect you don't. I'm not trying to anger anyone, I'm just saying, please try to respect that everyone believes diffrent things or else we might end up with a flame war and no one wants that, right?

I don't recall mass genocides occurring in the middle ages. Many have occurred in the 1900s to present.....as well as other things including the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Generally, humanity is not less barbaric than before. The tribal conflicts are simply the political boundaries of the countries of today. There have been steps toward improvement, but the human race is generally as barbaric in modern years as it has been in the past. (However, I do have a belief that medieval warfare was more honorable than current warfare.) Quote: The aliens thing isn't that everything we can't explain is alien. I ask though, if this is such a solid theory, can you present some evidence? Ok, I'm not saying this to argue with you dude, nor am I trying to start some flame war. The main reason that the "Alien influence" theory is out there, is because without the use of powerful telescopes there's almost no way of knowing as much as they did about the solar system. There's no way they could've made such an accurate calendar as they had. There's the jist of the reason for support for the "influence" theory. Now since you asked, let me ask you this. Can you present some evidence that they were really just that smart, and that their unbelievable knowlege of the solar system, mathematics, and time etc. was them being just that smart? And how do you explain the "alien encounters" today who's descriptions match up almost perfectly which some of the older civilization's gods? Again, I'm not trying to fight with you. I'm honestly interested on your reasoning on why you feel so strongly that there's absolutely no way our theory is correct? After your response, lets get back on the topic so this topic doesn't get closed, and perhaps people will feel more comfortable posting their opinions on what they believe the 2050+ theory is. Let's be mature about this man.

I do have evidence, alround the same time, the Aztecs, Mayans, Egyptions, and Incas all used Pyramids, pyramids that the rocks are stacked so perfectly that you can't fit a piece of paper between them. To be able to do this would require a far more advanced measurement system than they had. And there's anotherthing that doesn't exact prove alien but might idicate the Egyptions were more advanced than we thought. In some pyramids, there are dipictions of what resemble a lightbulb. Anyway, yes I argee, we need to move on. The only reason I'm using this is its my personal thoery that sometime in the future, we will discover there is alien life out there, which could have any type of effect on our race, mass hysteria, unity, or who knows? Maybe even alien worshiping cults.
