Shadow padded along the ground, his five-foot long tail dragging behind him. He enjoyed the sun beating down on him, and decided that he would look for a place to lie down soon...

Shadow heard his sister's howl from behind him; even though he rarely saw Nani, he recognized the sound. He decided to double back and search for her.

(yes, he was born before the litter with Aleu, so he's the first son)
Shadow padded over to the watering hole, and saw his sister asleep there. She was shivering, and Shadow's protective instincts took over; he padded over and laid down next to her, then curled his tail around her to keep her warm.

Shadow saw tears flowing down his sister's face; he didn't want her to be scared, so he set his tail under her eye on the far side, letting her tears fall into it. He gently laid his nose against her cheek near him, and felt the tears there flow down onto his snout.

Shadow heard Nani whisper his name in a frightened voice; he covered both of her eyes with his tail, and rubbed his head against hers in an attempt to comfort her.
