I couldn't agree more. Personally, I have lost all interest in animation films since there's no traditional animation anymore. In fact, I have watched a lot of them, and I have yet to see any 3D film which would top any of the average traditional ones. I even prefer "lame" traditional animated films like the DTV sequels over anything like Madagascar, Monster inc, Shark's tale, Ice age, Open season etc...
I just don't like 3D animated films - to me, they are films like others, like live movies - and it's not only the graphics, but also the scenarios which are lame most of the time and very different from what 2D animated films had (90% of the 3D films are pure comedy...one joke every 30 seconds...), and also the soundtracks (what happened to characters singing?...what happened to the orchestral soundtracks?... I have seen many 3D films taking some "popular" songs in from nowadays and putting them here and there in background during the films - is that how you get success nowadays? that's plain uncreative...)
Traditional animation definitely has something that I just can't find in 3D ones, whether you call it magic, quality, simple family entertainment, etc...
Now, on your comments : "Mickey is baby" => I would blame Disney for this. Since they've stopped making animated films, what have they done? A TV series for 3 years old, big copy of Dora with famous Mickey characters (don't know the original name - Mickey's house in french). So yes, blame them for giving that image to characters that truly don't deserve it. It's also due partly to the Direct-To-Video sequels - even though I like them, I know that most people think they destroyed the original films and gave them a bad image.
It's all about image - that's why they put so much money on advertisement.
Talking about Meet the Robinsons : I have seen it, and I've found it to be above the average - at least this one really had an interesting scenario, unlike most of the 3D films. But it was very average on everything else.
I'm also unsure that Princess and the frog will really help getting a better image of 2D - I truly hope so, though. The interesting thing to notice is that it's actually the Pixar directors that pushed them to make new traditional animated films...(I think I remember seeing a news like this)
In any case - you will be pleased to know that this is my project : I want more people to discover or re-discover "unpopular" animated films, so I'm making Animation Source which will be dedicated to traditional animated films. I have done it with Balto already, I will do the same thing for many of the traditional animated films (and even TV series) that I like and know deserved better fate than being forgotten by the crowd. I have always wanted to do it, but I needed to find a way to be able to maintain so many sites - which I have. Just give me a few months to prepare everything. It's a lot of work, but I know it can only be successful.
If Disney and the other companies don't believe in 2D anymore, let's just show them that there are still many lovers of traditional animation which shouldn't be forgotten.

It's great to know that I'm not the only one who thinks this way! I've been telling people for years that nothing can beat 2D animated movies, but they just looked at me like I was stupid. I do watch the 3D stuff, but (even if I like them) none of them are ever as good as the old 2D stuff. This is why I watch all my ancient disney movies over and over again with my sister. She's younger so I'm trying to keep her interested in original cartoons instead of that 3D stuff. When I was little I always hated anything that wasn't a cartoon, I kinda wish she was that way. It annoys me that none of my little cousins know who Yogi Bear and many other old cartoon characters are and also that my dad acts surprised when I bring up an old cartoon, he acts like I shouldn't know about it.
Bring back 2D!

Like all of you, it saddens me to know that the classics and once-was popular movies are being forgotten and unpopular by dumb moves like the ones said above. But I am really, really happy to know that my baby brother and some of my siblings still like the old classic Disney Movies and Music more then the new ones. I'm proud and glad that I grew up with the Classic Movies. I was just talking to my sister right now and I asked her what she liked most, The Classic Movies or the New Movies. Her answer sadden me as you all know what she picked. I just wish that the good ol' classic movies be back up and in their old good shine and leave the newer ones to dust, and As an oath I will make sure my brother and younger brother grow up in Classics like I did and help bring them back to their well deserved Thrones. (My younger sister, older then my baby brother, is already a helpless case to make her like Classics and so are my other sisters. My two brothers are the only ones with hope) I found a few vids of Disney's old classics. Walt Disney's Creative Quotations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZwbxsdcekgOpening to LGE II: The Disney Dream Factory: 1933-1938 VHS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoMGgt6U6mcMy brother absolutly LOVES The Three Little Pig, The Skeleton Dance and Winnie the Pooh. My absolute favorits are 'Fantasia', 'Wynkin, Blynken and Nod', and A lot more! XD Have a nice Day or Night or After Noon Or Evening! And never forget our Lovable and Allways will be Disney Classics! Love, Scarpaw.

Hmm. I'm quite sure that a lot of you will hate me for telling this (Even though I LOVE 2D animation. In fact, all sorts of animation.) But I KNOW that CGI animated movies will keep coming, even though how much we wish animation studios (Not only Disney!) to go back to 2D animation. But seriously, I don't GET it. 2D animation, of course that's good, but come on! 3D animation isn't the worst thing on earth either. Some movie will NOT look good in 2D animation (Like, Meet the Robinsons. I can't imagine a movie like that like a 2D film. And even worse, it was planned as a live action one!) and vice versa. The princess and the frog would not have looked any good a a 3D movie. But it ticks me off, that they made Mickey, a traditional world famous 2D character, to be a CGI animated character. And why did they make a toddlers show with him as the main character (Yes, Mickeys Clubhouse is a toddlers show. But I don't think Mickey is a character for toddlers.) When Walt first started to make the short films with Mickey, people in ALL ages enjoyed them, like any other comedy today. Personally, I do miss 2D animation, but I don't hate 3D either. As I said, for me, it depends on how movie it is, how the animation style should be. (But, of course people may have a ton of other opinions about this)

I don't mind them making 3D films, of course. What bothers me is that there are ONLY 3D films. To me this is the same thing as video games, where you can only find 3D video games now, and most of the 2D games left are very simple or basic games. I bought an Xbox 360 6 months ago because of all the good I have heard about it, and it's taking dust because I just can't find any game to my interest. (I'm bored of all the dark / shooting / no brain games, and I especially hate FPS games...and if you remove them, you're not left with much choice...) On the other hand, I bought a Nintendo DS 1 year ago and I have already finished and enjoyed a lot of games, including the Phoenix Wright series (best games on DS to me!) and Professor Layton, both 2D games with awesome soundtracks and stories.
See the analogy?

Tintin wrote: no, you have every right to express your opinion Helene. I agree, not all 3D is bad, but we feel its getting out of hand. Any children's film nowadays is 3D, I disagree. It should be 3D and 2D, not just one dominating the other. Heck, I actually loved Meet the Robinsons for adding a famous Walt Disney quote. That's something you won't see in any other disney 3D film. Agreed, no one should be dominating. And yes, the quote from Walt is a rare sight in a 3D movie. I just hope Disney will make some more 2D movies, even after 'The princess and the frog'.

See the analogy? Indeed, I don't get why ALL animated films today need to be 3D. It's like they think 2D is old fashioned, or something.

Enchanted was very nice, true (although too "girly" for my taste ), it had a touch of "classic" animated films even though it's mostly a live film. I still think that 3D is a trend, and that almost none of the 3D films will be remembered as much as a Lion King. I think these films are very short-sighted and won't interest anyone in several decades, unlike the 2D ones which still continue to sell well. (I'm pretty sure that the recent release of Pinocchio is making great sales, and the films is, what...70 years old?) Let's just see if I'm wrong or not about this.
