I think Mods should be able to delete old or locked topics to make more room for all the other active topics. Because If you go on somthing like "Contest" and scroll all the way down, you'll see, what, like 3 to 5 locked topics?

We can delete topics.

We just have to be very careful when deleting topics because they can never be restored so it's usually left as just old and locked until several months/a year/whatever has gone by and then clean it all up when there's no risk the owner of said topic will wonder what has happened.

They keep them for records, but a more efficient system would be to have a forum only viewable by mods/staff to send those topics to, so they do not congest the topics.

The members who created the topics may also want to know why they have disappeared. The other members too...

^ What they said.

But I think it'd be better if there was a section dedicated to just locked topics, titled 'Archives' or something of the like. As in, the moderator can move the locked topics to that section, so it doesn't clutter the board it was originally in.

Well, it depends on the topic, if it is total spam - Then yes, Delete, however - If it's useful, but (lets say) multi-topic, then should be just locked and left to die.

But who would ever visit a section with only locked/useless/duplicate/spam topics? We don't delete them also because in this way all the members will see it and won't open a similar topic.

Nobody would have to visit that section; it would just be there to keep the topics out of their way.

And I have no retort for that. :/

I actually think that is a brilliant idea.

This doesn't solve the problem, as the visitors will not visit that section anyway so they won't see why the topic has been closed.
At most, we would leave the topics in their original section for some time (1 week for example), then move them to the Trash section - but unless all this is automatized, it will never work because the mods will forget about these topics.

Thanks, Vivid and Mighty. P:

If that's possible, then that would be great.
Although, if it's not possible, I still support the 'trash board', for reasons already stated. Members shouldn't even have to see the topics, because they're supposed to read the rules and know what and what not to do. If they break the rules, then it's their fault.

Locked topics are like visaul aids for the rules. It lets people how to understand the rules better. I think we should keep some locked topics for examples.
