Ok, ok, I know this may or not help, but I do not think this site, when making an acount, has a
Yes I have read the rules check box,
And to be able to make your acount, you had to of checked that box, now I do know you can just check that box, but it at least wouldn't be a way for newer members to say 'I couldn't find the rules'
That way you know they lied, had a chance to read the rules, but did not,
I think it's a easy +er way to get members to follow the rules.
I mean, that way it's right in front of them, so there's no Excuse for it, way too many members don't read the rules because they don't care or they are too lazy, I know this may be a pointless idea, but I personlly think it'll help a little
Does any one else kinda, maybe like this idea?

It *may* help some. But many may just check it to get past that point as well, then nothing has been solved. But it also may remind them to do so. Though many will probably still forget or just not care. But perhaps.

You know? When it /was/ right there in front of them.
(I only used SMS as an example. )

I agree with Draco. I think some members may take that oppertunity to read the rules, but many would just check it and not read it.

Though, I suppose there'd be no harm in adding that in, since it would be a good reminder.

I think a better measure would be to have registration require Java and instead, when a member clicks to register the account, a Java windows pops up with the rules written in it, with a link hidden in paranthesis somewhere close to the bottom, that you must click, or you won't be able to register.

Example:

rulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerule
rulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerule
rulerulerule(click here to complete registration)rule
rulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerule
rulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerulerule

Agreed on Lux's idea.

Most people joining would just tick "Yes I've read the rules" so they can sign up but not actually bother reading them. (I know - I've done that before aswell.)

I like that a lot more

Bad Lux! (Just Kidding XD)
My other idea was for them do do a 'test' and they have muiltipy (Sp?) choices about the rules and have to answer them correctly....But I thought it was stuiped so... I never suggested that.

Ah, I love the idea ! That way, it makes it very difficult to go around reading the rules ! I definately think this should be put in the system as soon as possible !^^

Problem is, the rules are currently in a forum topic, and I can't just add a link to register (that link should appear only when you actually want to register...)
I think I will add the "main" rules on the site instead, so that I can do something like this.
I don't understand why it would require Java though, unless you want half of the visitors not being able to register...

I figured it's the easiest way to implement the idea, since Java is easy to get anyway, but I suppose any solution is possible.

I know i'm reviving this topic, but look here : http://www.gtsplus.net/validate
On there you must answer questions all correctly before you can post, I think that would help some here.

wow i see these on a lot of sites and it seems so pointless, when it gets down to it, honestly, do you think people are gonna stop in the middle of the registration process go back and find the rules page, read it, and then go back to check the box "yes"......I think not....>.>
i suggest something more like a space to write a secret word featured on the rules page for example "owl" put the last rule on the rules page as 'when finished reading rules, put "owl" in the space marked "secret word" during your registration process'.
