Yeah, I'm pretty sure theirs a few rants about this, but I did not see an active one, or my eye-sight went very bad . This might go for “People need to take their responsibilities seriously “ kind of thing, but iv'e seen a User on The Main Balto Source site had a lot of contests, (Please read more and don't go posting without reading all) more than ten maybe, and I looked a a random selection, the latest one, to a few others down the list. And they had missed their dead line, By the latest one, three months. ( 3 Months) If you are inactive, or your going to forget about it, why did you make it? I mean, if you make one, your 'kinda', 'maybe', 'hopefully' expected to at least Name the winner, or say "Hey, I might be offline for a while, so i'll push the dead line longer." I am not sure if this happens because they have TOO many contests, and the last part of this, shouldn't their be a limit to how many contests you can have? Ten is rather a heck of a lot don't you think?

I agree with you. This is why I never go to the Contests section of the website. Its just so full of useless topics, its ridiculous. Its no better on the forums, really. Its the exact same problem. Only this time the creator of the topic will "bump" the topic, even if no one's interested in it or if no one's BEEN interested in it for WEEKS. And the other thing is, if that topic isn't popular, but make another unpopular topic, and it just spams the place. This needs to be taken care of. Or cleaned at least. Because I'm sick of seeing one person(s) have a mate contest, and the same person(s) requesting pictures, and the same person(s) adopt even MORE useless characters in the adoption topic.
It pushes the topics that are actually popular or actually used off the page. Its MOST annoying.
Its even more annoying when these people will have five contests/requests/adoptions at a time, and yet use NONE of the characters EVER. Its a waste of time and space.

I'd say that based off the other recent contest rants that contests are not getting much of a positive image around these parts. I like 'em and I think just 'cause some people make them wrong or make way too many it doesn't mean they're all bad. As for the people being inactive they simply could have been planning to be more active but something could have happened to change all that so it might not be their faults all the time.

Oh, unless that person is ya(which I highly doubt it is) then I'm pretty sure were not allowed to use other people as examples like in rants. Even if we can though I think it's wrong for ya to just single out this person like this no matter how mad or upset or disappointed ya are with them.

Er, not to be random, but when you say, 'Ya' in 'Oh, unless that person is ya' Do you mean 'you'? Or am I going blind?

But back on topic ya really should remove that link 'cause how would ya like it if somebody made a rant and then used ya as an example for everybody to see?

You could've posted this here but I guess it's too late now. But I do completely agree with you about this. IMO, think it's fine that you posted that link there, because usually people who do annoying things never actually realise that it's annoying unless they are told. And even if they are told some of them just ignore only ONE person.

They have to bump to get any posts at all. Having a contest topic is a competition in of itself.

I'm talking about contests people actually are interested in joining. Ones with actual requirements other than "LOL MY CHARRIE NEEDS A BOYFRIEND! HE CAN BE A WOLF OR A HUSKY", ones with actual prizes. It wouldn't be such a problem if people were interested in joining the "spam topics".

The problem was that until recently (mid-this year/last year) there wasn't really an active contests mod. When I became a contest mod, the damage had kind of already been done and I was just stuck cleaning up the mess. Back then, there wasn't a system in place where the mod for the section could "approve" the contests getting through, as there was in the fan art and fan fiction section. So, basically it was a daily struggle trying to get through all of the old ones and de-activate them as well as try to keep tabs on the new ones and de-activate anything that wasn't following the rules or just plain looked awful. It's been like that for a while and I've just been trying to keep up. The other bad thing is, right now I'm the only one who's able to take care of it, since I haven't heard from Beauty Jenna in quite a while (and I'm getting ready to say something about it, since she has responsibilities in other areas as well.)
The GOOD news is, a lot of this has changed now. The submission system (as of yesterday, w00t!) is now pretty much the same as for the other sections, so I should (theoretically, I haven't completely tested this but it seems to be working very well so far, despite the fact that it wasn't implemented before a majority of the current contests got in) be able to accept and deny every new contest that is submitted henceforth. More good news is, I think I finally caught up and got rid of all of the old contests clogging out the news ones (another yay!) on both BS and LKS. And, the last bit of good news, de-activated contests are now hidden as everything else that has been de-activated on the site is (whereas they weren't before). The only problem now seems to come with deleting the contests, but I'll deal with that later.
Back to the topic at hand, yes, I do see a lot of contests like this, that get abandoned. It's sad, and I think your theory, about having too many to really look over and be sure of, is the most correct one. And yes, there should be a limit imposed. I'll have to discuss this with the other moderators, just so I can get some good feedback, but I think 10 active contests is a nice round number (and with the new system in place finally, I'll be able to keep much better track of this!)
I'm terribly sorry that everything's been out of control there for so long. But hopefully now I'll be able to do my job much more effectively since I'm caught up and I have new toys to play with ^.^ I'll now focus my attention on trying to remind contest owners to keep their contests active, or get rid of them. And I'll inquire about opinions on a limit for active contests. Thanks for bringing this up!
Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone who does have a contest or two open and is reading this: When you are finished with your contest and have announced the winners, please go ahead and de-activate the contest. As long as your winners/participants have joined it and are still part of the contest, or have at least added it to their favorites, they will still be able to get to it and see the results. De-activating the contest prevents people from joining once the contest is over, and also prevents new submissions from being added. If you are concerned about how to hand out prizes, you can always feel free to shoot me a pm and I'll help you figure that out, depending on what the type of prize is.
