“Koriander!” Benji yelled out the back door for the exuberant puppy.
Kori snapped his head around to look at his owner. “Oh! I’m coming, Goodbye, Lolly.” He told the outdoors rabbit – for she was outside all the time. He had nice old conversations with the older animal – she gave fantastic advice!
Benji opened the sliding glass door for him, and stepped over the guarding gate – a baby gate really. “Mom, I got Kori in.” he yelled.
“Good. I hope he’s clean.” She yelled back from the back room. She had a date tonight she was preparing for.
Kori’s tongue hung out the side of his mouth as he looked at Benji watching Tv from behind the baby gate. He wished he was allowed in there – but until he could hold it or go outside when he had to go potty he was only allowed in the kitchen. He whined. He wanted Ben to come see him, but knew Ben would watch his movie and only his movie. He looked out of the corner of his eye and saw “Mother”, all dressed up and ready. She gave him a pat whne hse came into the kitchen to get a drink of water.
Ding, Dong.
Koriander didn’t make a noise. One ear raised and the other stayed floppy, and he was much more alert, watching the cherrywood door.
“Benji, can you get that, Sweetheart?” Mother asked.
Kori tipped his head to the side. He mostly liked ot keep thoughts to his own self, not even bark. But…
Benji let the man in.
He was tall, about 6’2, and he was built like a brickhouse, his hair juss a buzz.
Koriander did something he never did. He went, and he hid. He hid under his blanket on his little hunter green bed. He was really, really, really upset this man was in his house. He didn’t like it one little bit.
“Well, Jennifer. You look nice tonight.” The man’s booming voice filled the house.
“Thank you!” She said excitedly.
Benji set Kori’s glass food dish down. “Hey, Mom, Where’s Koriander?” He asked.
“Well, I don’t know, Did you let him out?”
“I’ll find him,” The man volunteered, coming straight across the floor. Kori found himself staring at the man’s shoes. He hid completely under the blanket.
“Ah. Here he is.” The man picked him up and held him out to Benji, who took him happily, setting him by his food. He scrambled back under his blanket.
“Well that’s a fool dog If I ever seen one.” The man said. “And you, Boy, said he’d make a fine hunting dog? He ain’t good for nothing if he’s scared of something bigger than him!”
That, Is when Koriander decided he didn’t like that man.
