To me, this is the mother of all Melodic Thrash Metal bands to come out of this last decade and I think The Fall Of Ideals may just be one of the BEST metal records I've heard in about 15 years, the music is just sick and just pure techinical genius and the vocals slay just about any other metal bands I listen to EXCEPT Dream Theater not to mention Phil Labonte is one of the coolest guys in metal today!

As for my favorite songs and Ideal Setlist I will post them below this:

Whispers (I Hear You)
The Air That I Breathe

All That Remains is one of my favourite bands! I love their songs "Two Weeks" and "Chiron". Great band.

Indictment is the ultimate ATR encore song. Overcome was good, and TFOI was insane. But my favorite album by far is still This Darkened Heart. A lot has to do with the song "This Darkened Heart". I love the end few lines.

"I...Will not...Be held down...again!!!"

Great great message.

OT: theres a simular bit in "A Change Of Seasons" by Dream Theater as well actually:

So far or so it seems
All is lost
With nothing fulfilled
Off the pages and the
T.V. screen
Another world
Where nothing's true

Tripping through
The life fantastic
Lose a step
And never get up
Left alone
With a cold blank stare
I feel like giving up

I was blinded by a paradise
Utopia high in the sky
A dream that only drowned me
Deep in sorrow, wondering why

Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what
Don't let him be
Let's feed upon his misery
Then string him up for all the world to see

I'm sick of all
Your hypocrites
Holding me at bay
And I don't need
Your sympathy
To get me through the day

Seasons change and so can I
Hold on Boy
No time to cry
Untie these strings
I'm climbing down
I won't let them push me away

Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what
Don't let him be
Let's feed upon
His misery
Now it's time for them
To deal with me

As for TDH, I havent listened to it yet. were the vocals on the same page as TFOI as far as the quality of the performances are concerned?

If so I may have to look into it more deeply...

Every ATR album was different than the previous. Behind the Silence and Solitude (The first ablum) was not really all that good. Mainly deeper more gutteral vocals than anything. This Darkened Heart was more like the others, but still has it's own differences that set it apart. I'd suggest picking it up. It really is a great album. Overcome was good aswell, however a bit too much singing for me. Don't get me wrong, he has a great singing voice. Just...not what I expect to hear from them...

Yeah, Overcome was really solid musically and sonically but the vocals lacked the edginess that made The Fall Of Ideals so brilliant. Phil is a great clean vocalist and the awesome cover of Nevermore's Believe In Nothing at the end of the record is a great example of this but the record overall lacked a lot of what made TFOI great vocally.

Dang. The only song by them I've heard is Two Weeks. I love this song. It really doesn't make since to me that I like it so much, though... I don't like anything remotely close to "scremo" as some of the lyrics are. And I really don't care of the meaning of the song... But the first time I heard the song it instantly clicked with me and I couldn't help but come home right away and try to find it and listen to it over and over. ._. I'm pretty sure my parents went out and bought the CD so I'll have to give it all a listen, though from what I've been told, Two Weeks is one of their more mellow songs.. haha.

It's the 2nd most mild song they've ever made. The most mellow is also on the album Overcome. I believe the last song and I think it's a cover...

They also aren't "screamo". They're metal/melodic metal.

Yep, you are correct dude, It's a cover of Nevermore's "Believe In Nothing" and closes out the Overcome record, good call!

And it was a hell of an awesome cover at that, they killed that song!

To me, they sound like "screamo". I don't care for what they are technically 'classified' as. Some of their songs sound like "screamo", so that is what I classify them as partly.

I didn't try to start an arguement, I was just letting you know.

I picked up a copy of This Darkened Heart this week and I'm really digging it so far, the vocals rule once again along with Labonte's solid songwriting and the melodic elements really put guitarists Mike Martin and Oli Herbert's skills on display.

Absolutely brilliant record and definitely worth the $14 I spent for it!

Exactly. The interesting thing to know though is Jeanne and Jason weren't part of ATR yet. They picked up Jeanne just after putting out TDH while they were on tour in Arizona. They picked up Jason just after recording TFOI. Fun Fact for the day. If you can, pick up the ATR Live DVD. It shouldn't be more than 20 bucks and it has all their videos, interveiws, extras, making of, and 2 live shows. I have it, and love it!
