Deny it as much as you want, but this does happen.

Popular members often get passes. Put up something that's against the rules? Take it off and give a warning. Non-popular member does the same thing? BAN BAN BAN.

This is ridiculous. Rules apply to everyone and not just the unpopular ones. We all know why you don't do anything about the popular users. Because if you did, the fans would throw a tantrum, the member would throw a tantrum, and the member would crawl into their hugbox and milk pity from fans, all while convincing their fans to LEAVE BS FOREVAR!!11!

I'm not implying the mods are doing a bad job. But this bias needs to stop. If the popular member is going to be a wimp and whine, let them be a wimp and whine. Threatening to leave BS FOREVAR? Fine. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. One less drama llama to deal with.

Took what I was going to post. In contests it doesn't matter if your entry is awful, people know your name and you're in.

Fan art and image is more based on talent or just randomness. Although yes, there is some bias in the fan art arena. When it comes to images though, that's tough since most people do renders. With that logic, I'm popular because I won image of the week three times and I'm not really popular. o.o

Watch as someone thinks we're talking about them and they throw a tantrum. Note for popular members with a persecution complex; this applies to everyone.

I don't really even know who these popular members are and I always thought that there wasn't any of that around on this site. I mean, did this just suddenly turn into a site where people start to classify people as "popular" or "unpopular"?(Note:I don't know how long people have been getting away with stuff 'cause they're "popular" on here but that's 'cause I wouldn't look for that)

I understand what you're saying, and to an extent I agree.

But, really, who would want to ban a member that has lots of great fan arts, fan fics and fan images? Why would you want to block out a top contributor of the site?

Of course, if the world were completely fair, popularity would go on courtesy and effort (effort, not talent). But that's rarely, if ever, the case, now isn't it?

I agree that some mods seem to pick favourites and let them pass more easily than others. It's something that's got to change, but members need to be more responsive and give us feedback.

I'm thinking about opening a feedback topic either here on the Rant board or in the Suggestions section where members can post feedback about the mods and freely voice their opinions (within reasonable and obvious limits) about that named mod and that named mod without having to fear bans for saying that.

With that said, I'd never allow myself to let 'popular' members pass something that any other member would be banned for (intentionally, mind you).
I remember one time I banned one popular member who's name shall remain anonymous unless s/he him/herself wishes otherwise, and boy, did my PM inbox get full of flames quickly.

I can easily relate to why some moderators would rather not ban 'popular' members, since that mod would run in the risk of heavy flaming. As for myself?

Let's just say that the banning button really got to exercise that day.

QED. This is the problem. Who cares if they're a top contributor? If anything, that's MORE of a reason to call them on rule breaking. Others look up to that member to be an example. And if they want to bend the rules to fit their agenda and gain more mindless zombie fans, then they can take that somewhere else because BS already has rules.

Then let's break the mold. I refuse to stand by and watch a site that I have been on for three years turn into a biased society.

That's the problem. The members are too afraid to say anything. God forbid they earn the ire of the popular fan artists who in turn whine to their mod buddies to collectively stone the person in the town square for speaking their mind.

I'm not afraid anymore. I'm putting my paw down and saying the buck stops here. SOOPER POPYOOLAR fan artist wants to hate me for calling them out? Fine, their opinion isn't the only one in the entire world that matters. Their mod friends want to warn me just for speaking out? Fine, I'll just call them out on that too and watch as the members with at least one brain hemisphere in their skulls realize what's going on and finally pwn them. Retarded fans of SOOPER POYOOLAR fan artist want to flame me so hard my stripes are burned off? Fine, I'll just laugh at the most pathetic lynch mob on the planet and report them all.

I know some people are thinking "SORA-KOON DOESNT GET POPYOOLAR ARTISTS GEENYUS!!11!" Post here and tell me that. I dare you. While you're at it, bring some of your friends to defend them. That's right, I'm asking you to bring it. Post here, flood my PM box, have a field day.

As for the others, stand up! Don't be afraid of the popular people who play backseat mod and get away with it. Don't be afraid of the mods who kiss up to the popular people by smiting their enemies and being personal attack dogs.

We aren't trying to pick favorites, though like Lux said, I'm sure some do. And, as always, most of us welcome any criticism if you think we are just playing favorites with the popular people. I've always welcomed any criticism, from everyone, if they thought I was being unfair. And when that's happened, I discuss it with them in a logical and unemotional manner using only facts. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. When I am wrong, I fix my mistake and I apologize for it. And I know most (if not all) of the other mods do this too. If we cut one person some slack, we cut everyone some slack, depending on the situation.

The problem is, nothing can be generalized because people are different and situations are different. When there are unforeseen circumstances, we have to make do with what we've got to go on and try to solve the problem in the easiest and fairest manner possible. If you'll notice, many of the "popular artists" aren't being cut so much slack anymore...

Again, if you think I'm wrong, feel free to tell me. If you think that I could do something better, tell me. I want to know how to improve so that everything continues to go smoothly and cohesively on this site. I can't speak for everyone else, but my ears are always open. I've never really thought of myself as too intimidating (and I certainly hope no one thinks of me that way!) and I won't yell or scream or anything of that nature, XD. I really am quite friendly *tail wag*, so don't be afraid to talk to me.

Well, if y'all want I'd make a topic so we can give proper feedback to the mods without fear of retribution 'cause I'm not afraid of the mods if they wanna come after me for trying to be honest to them(in a peaceful and polite way of course).

And if those popular members(whoever they are) start to get upset then I hope the mods won't blindly defend them 'cause they need to learn that just 'cause they may make a few good drawings it doesn't mean that everybody has to bow down to them.

Basically - I'm fully in agreement with Lux.

I've also noticed how some members will be allowed to get away with things any "unpopular" member would be warned/banned for and to be brutally honest - it irks me. It really does.
Especially as I remember some fights in the mod box about this exact thing - I don't remember the outcome now but it wasn't pretty and it really got on my nerves.

One other thing I have to mention though, like Lux said, there's a lack of feedback from members.
If you think a mod isn't doing their job properly, picking favourites, letting a "popular" member get away with breaking the rules - tell us.
It doesn't do any good to sit in the shoutbox or on msn and complain to yourselves about it.

Like Aniu said - I'm more than happy to hear critique or even complaints about the way I've done something/handled something.
If you send me a PM about it I will always respond and I'm happy to listen to what anyone has to say.
I also love Lux's feedback topic idea.

Well, I know this may sound stupid but 'eck - How about we have like a form on the site saying based on this, like a report system, it would be written something like this:

Moderator you think is not doing job properly: *List of Mods*
Reason: *list of a few reasons (i.e Not doing enough work, exc.)*
Full explenation: *insert Text here*
Action YOU think should be taken: *Insert text here*
Why do you think this should be done?: *Insert either text or a list of reasons*

And when a member sends it, all the mods get it, APART from the reported Mod.

Wadd'ya think?

---

Edit: This is probably what the code would look like:

Code: Select all
<html>
<body>
<form>
Moderator you think is not doing the Job properly:
<form action="">
<select name="Moderator you think is not doing the Job properly">
<option value="Uk Teh White Wolfer">UK</option>
<option value="Lux, the Janitor">Luxy</option>
<option value="Kirada">Kaddeh</option>
<option value="Deni">DenDens!</option>
</select><br>
Full explenation:
<input type="text" name="Full explenation">
<br>
Action <b>YOU</b> think should be taken:
<input type="text" name="Action YOU think should be taken"<br>
<br>

Why do you think this should be done?
<input type="text" name="Why do you think this should be done?">
<br>
<input type="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>

Note: This was just a quick example.
