You could try the Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dann. It's a book series as well as a TV series and its about some animals and their home Farthing Wood is being cut down so they swear the oath of mutal protection which means that they can't eat each other and they must protect each other. Under this oath they travel to a nature reserve called White Deer Park.
The humans don't have much of a big part and though it's told in third person, it is about the animals. Plus there's a sub-plot in the second series and the second book which is very like the Lion King 2.

Darn. D: I was gonna say the Poppy books, but they are by Avi. ]: I always loved them as a child, though. <3

The Guardians of Ga’hoole by Kathryn Lasky are good, though. It's a series where owls are the main characters. I got really into it a few years back and still to this day I enjoy kicking back and re-reading them. (Yes, I may be 18, but hey! - these books are cute).

Silverwing (along with Sunwing, Firewing, and Darkwing) by Kenneth Oppel is another great series, this time featuring bats as the main characters. Another very interesting series.

I see you have all ready read The Sight. If you liked that one, you may also be interested in Fire Bringer by the same author. Remember the red deer they mention in The Sight? Well this is his - Rannoch's - story! I really loved this one.

I know you said only books with animals as the main characters and no people and such, but if you are interested in stories with dragons, you might be interested in checking out The Dragon Chronicles. It is a trilogy written by Susan Fletcher and consists of the books entitled Dragon's Milk, Flight of the Dragon Kyn, and Sign of the Dove. They prove for a very good read, in my opinion.

Another one which may be a little off from what you are asking is an older book entitled Scruffy. It's written by Jack Stoneley. (Sorry, I cannot find a good site to link with info on this book. ]:) This is an older book about a stay dog named Scruffy and her hardships through life at an early age. It's actually based on a true story, as well. It's a very heart-warming book and one of my favorites. Though it's hard to find now-a-days. But if you take the time, I'm sure you could find a copy on e-bay or amazon.com. It's most deffinatly worth a read, though!

For some reason, I cannot think of the numerous books I have read with animals in them even though that's what my reading list usually consisted of as a younger teen. haha. If I can remember more, I'll be certain to post. ;D But for now I hope you at least find interest in one of these books!

//

EDIT : oops. D: I didn't see that you have all ready read Guardians of Ga’hoole. Fail count grows one for Tibby. XD

Hey hey hey!!

Are we forgetting Redwall, by Brain Jaques?

C'mon, he writes so beautifully, I cry when a character dies. It's mainly about little woodland animals and their struggles with vermin(rats, foxes, weasels, etc.) and adventures. Normally, I'm not a fan of adventure, but I don't even know what I'm reading once I read these books, they suck me in totally.

But, I had a Redwall Overload and so...I've had to stop reading.

There's even a Redwall MUCK, MMORPG sort of thing. The series has that big of a following! And, I'm a member.

Bambi by Felix Salten is a classic - don't think you'll be reading the Disney movie, though. It's a bit darker and more detailed; there are also more deer characters, and less spotlight on Bambi's other-animal friends (ie no Thumper or Flower). I haven't read the sequel but I've heard good things.

And of course there's Watership Down and the Plague Dogs, both by Richard Adams, though a warning - both books can get somewhat violent, and IMO the Plague Dogs definitely has parts that could be considered rather disturbing (Watership Down, a little less so).

The Wild Road and The Golden Cat by Gabriel King. Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams.

Tibb already mentioned the Silverwing series, which I used to absolutely love way back when - I wish I could find my old books... besides Firewing, which I already have sitting on my desk upstairs... I liked Sunwing the most :D I thought these books were pretty cool because they feature a kind of unconventional species as the main characters (bats)... you might not think you'd be so interested in reading about bats, but Kenneth Oppel really knows how to write these fellows :3

EDIT; There's also, if you decide you're interested, the Spirit of the Cimarron series (based off of the characters in Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron; there's 4 books in all, each focusing on a different horse character [Spirit, Esperanza, Sierra and Bonita]) and the Silver Brumby series, though none of the horses in either series talk, I believe. Still good reads though.

Animal Farm, by George Orwell, if that's your cup of tea. If you're into folklore, Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke is also good. Most anything by CS Lewis also features talking animals, The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. I'm sure if you Google search it, you'll find more.

You could always read Felidae but the English version is kind of hard to find. There are seven sequels, but only one is also in English. It's about this cat named Francis, and a lot of crazy things happen. But... I don't even remember WHY I am recommending THiS? Oh well, it's good. The humans are pretty involved but, they don't have HUGE parts.

And like Aloha Aleu said, there is Watership Down, which is about rabbits. It is my favorite book of all time. It is epic and exciting and LONG! Humans aren't very big in this, but it is so good.

Varjak Paw is also about cats, once again, humans not being very big in it. But I REALLY like this one. A lot of books a like are about cats.

And the last one, Toes. This is more for younger kids, but it is about this cat that has extra toes. Humans are frequently involved in the book. It is kind of sad at the end, but you might like it.

I haven't read any totally animal books but one you might like is Watchers by Dean Koontz, its about a man that finds a super intellgent Golden Retriever, altered by the government to be nearly human-level in intellgence, the villian is the Retriever's counterpart project, a homicidal genetically altered Baboon named the Outsider who wants to kill the Retriever for being the 'previlidged' of the two of them. It a good book.

Animal Farm is one of my favorites. It has very deep government and anti-communist themes though.

This can count, the His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman. There are three books, Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, and Amber Spyglass. The talking animals are daemons, animal incarnations of human souls. This book does have pretty strong anti-religious messages, so if you're sensitive about that don't read it.

I love Redwall. My favorite book is Martin the Warrior and my favorite character is, obviously, Felldoh.
