I'll shorten my page-long rant for you.

I see members post inappropriate content on the forums. I see other members quoting their posts just to say "Reproted!11!11one!11tenplusone". Then I see the report.

Then I see quote on quote on quote on quote, all containing that post with inappropriate content.

Did you know you can be warned for spreading that content about in that topic by quoting it? Well, you can't - however, you can be warned for spamming (although that's not very likely to happen). But it gets really frustrating when moderators have to edit 1, 2, 3, 4, 12?!! posts with that inappropriate message/link/image/spam quoted.

So please, PLEASE... save us some work by just clicking the report button and forever hold your tongue/fingers/whatever you type with and either respond to the point of the topic, or (in the case the topic was made just to pour out that content or just to spam) forever hold your peace...

Thank you for your attention.

To right Luxy!

Although i've done this before (Adding the quotes inside my posts), but 9 times out of 10 I don't even say "Reported", I say something like "Now a Mod shall look at this" or something.

But Bravo Lux for posting this.

Ugh. I agree. I hate when people even bother to post saying "Reported" or whatever. Even if it's more than just that word, it means the same none-the-less. AND it has nothing to do with the topic to begin with so is technically spam. Hm? Is it REALLY worth breaking a rule to tell someone else you are reporting them for breaking a rule? No. It's not. It's dumb. Don't do it. Jeeze. -.-...

Yeah, I agree with you here, Luxy. Although it doesn't really affect me as I'm not a mod, I can see why it would be frustrating. If it was like this:

Member 1: *inappropriate content*
Member 2: Please don't post that kind of thing here. Reported.
Mod: Locked. Please read the site rules *link*.

Then there would be no problem, right? But it's like:

Member 1: *inappropriate content*
Member 2: *quote* don't post that stuff here!
Member 3: *quote* yeah, stop breaking the rules!
Member 4: *quote* You are totally reported!
Member 5: *quote* Reported!!
Member 6: REPORTED
Mod: *locks the topic and has to edit 5 posts to get rid of inappropriate content.* Please read site rules *link*.

Why ten different people need to say 'reported' is beyond me, because when you click the report button it should say 'this post has already been reported'. Why bother posting and bumping up the topic so MORE people see the 'inappropriate content'?

Good rant, anyway, Luxy.

Luxy, you are now my hero for this rant.

I hate it when people do that! DX
Is it really so important to tell someone, who 9 times out of 10 don't care at all, that they've just broken the rules?
Surely they'll find out when their topic gets locked or they get a warning or they get banned?

True that 9.9 And I don't want to stereotype, but I'd wager that at least half the people that do that are the younger (preteen) kids who want to jump on the bandwagon and show their 'modworthyness!!!' and add to their post count... *blink* There's absolutely no point in 9264t281 people mobbing a topic just to all say "Reported!" "Hey, the rules say blahblahblah REPORTED!", etc... the best thing of all would be to ACTUALLY report it, instead of just parroting what everyone else has said and what only one person has actually done (since, as I recall, a post can only be reported once, yes?). And going around quoting the inappropriate text is only spreading it around and making more work for the mods... geez... 9.9

Perhaps a bit unrelated, but it also irks me when people -constantly- quote the post before them, even if a.) there are no posts between what the last person said and what you're about to say, so there's really no need to specify the post you're responding to AND b.) said post is a mile long, and yet people still quote it over and over and over, making the page ridiculously long...

Oh, yes, this is so annoying. If someone makes an inappropriate post in your topic, quoting that post doesn't do any good, in fact it just spreads it around where moderators have to go looking for it to delete it. And, if someone absolutely feels the demanding need to let everyone know that the person has been reported, then saying it once will suffice.

Ex: User 1: Inappropriate post.
User 2: Alright, I reported him everyone. Now back to what we were discussing. I think turnips are (blah blah blah...etc.)

I mean, it's that easy. Let's not spam up the topic with nasty content just so everyone can say "Reported!!!!1111!!one" In fact, I really think there should be a rule that at least says not to quote messages with content that is questionable at best, since that spreads it around and just makes things worse. Perhaps we should mention it to Steet?

Well, I think I may have previously been guilty of quoting and reporting..xD

But I didn't just quote and report...usually, I'd tell them why I reported and like, duh, I wouldn't quote it if it was already reported just to say, "HEY u r mean nd shudnt b herrr!!!11"

Anyway, thanks for the advice though, I didn't think about all the posts the mods may have to edit O.O But you're right =P It would be alot of extra work...for well, nothing.

For next time, I shall know xD *Is a little bit smarter now* o.o
