It seems to me that while other countries in the world have to put up with our music the U.S. doesn't seem to be too willing to listen to other country's artists.

Yesterday, I asked about 100 people I knew/saw if they had heard of some well-known bands in the UK like the ones listed above. I wasn't too surprised when I only found a little less than a fourth of them could say that they knew one well.

There's nothing wrong with these bands but for some reason we aren't hearing them. I say that there are many places where blame lies. One is the radio. Another is MTV. And we can also blame ourselves too for not really taking the time or showing much interest. To further demonstrate my point here's an article I've found:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3503103.stm

I may be a little biased here because I'm a huge fan of Oasis but that still doesn't mean that this isn't any less true of a problem. Our country really needs to start getting out of it's comfort zone and start accepting that other people in other countries make just as good if not better music.

It's called nationalism. Every country is guilty of it one way or another. America just happens to be guilty about it about... a lot of stuff. -.- Which is very unfortunate.

It doesn't really surprise me that I haven't heard of any of these bands. I think I'll look into them, though. I rather enjoy listening to bands from other places than the USA. Makes things a bit interesting.

I would have mentioned other countries too but I didn't have much room and the UK was a good example.

If y'are looking into those bands then I gotta tell ya that I can really only recommend Oasis 'cause they're they only one up there that I really like(I had to research to find the other bands a little).

I can stand a bit of Oasis here and there. Haven't heard much of the other ones.

It's true... the only bands from other countries I've heard on the mainstream in the US have been British alternative rock bands like Lostprophets and Australian ones like JET, but they honestly don't sound a whole lot different from similar bands here.

However, I do have a bit of a taste for French music, as my AP French teacher often has us listen to it. For instance, the rap music you hear in France is much different than that in the US, at least in terms of what their songs are about. MC Solaar, for example (The French call him "Monsieur Rap") raps about avoiding violence and the ills of society.

French Pop, also, is much different than the bubblegum pop around here. There's this one song called "En Apesenteur" (Translation: "Weightlessness") which is REALLY good.

Just my two cents.
