Well, as a lot of drawings do, this little guy started out as a school doodle. I'd just finished a test with a lot of free time, so I pulled out my notepad and began to draw. (Unfortunately, the original scan on it is a damaged file, but I'll try to scan it again). So once the little guy was complete, I scanned him onto my computer. Weeks later was when I finally decided to line and colour him. (Lining done in MS Paint, Colouring in Serif Photoplus 6.0)

By the way, he's cartoon, so I don't want critiques.

:D There he is! Sometimes I can draw, with sudden bursts of inspiration, but other times... so, what's with the red eyes and the unnaturally long fangs on this little pup? Well, the fangs were drawn originally because I felt like it, but as I continued to draw and colour I decided to give him a bit of history. He's 1/2 Rottweiler and 1/2 Demon Dog. So having worked out this, I decided on a little history. It's sad though! Oh, and after colouring him, I decided to name him Echo.

I'm working on a shortfic involving how he was born and what happened to his parents, but for now, he's just a young pup, only six weeks old, wandering the streets alone.

Why thank you! (I thought no-one was going to comment!) Do you think I should shade him?

I shaded him and made the background gradient, and I love the result! Not sure if I like it more than the original though. I love them both. The original sticks to the 'cartoon' feel of it, but the other looks more interesting and almost 3D. Here it is anyway.

Oh, I'm no good with full body pics, and yeah, practise makes perfect, but...

I have this really weird thing where I can draw a (good) picture unless it's spontaneous. Not even if I think "I'm going to do some drawing this afternoon" it just turns out crummy. Except for in one case when I drew my cat. But that was realism, so it's sorta different. But anyway, would you guys like to see that?

There. I'm really proud of this drawing. You may notice, it's the cat in my avvie. =)

Does anyone have any critiques on the shading of the dog? That's the main thing I'm working on right now. Everything is appreciated.

Bumping... sort of. I'd like a few different critiques and opinions on my art...

Firstly I would like you to give me a few tips and pointers on shading...

Secondly, ANY critiques on the drawing of the cat is super awesome- I can't actually find anything wrong with it.

And thirdly/lastly, I want to hear your thoughts on my new drawing style/technique.

Here was my reference:

And here was my finished product.

Overall, I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Mostly, I was just wondering your opinion on the technique.

1. I opened up the reference picture in MS Paint.

2. Went around a general outline using the curvy line tool in a bright colour like red or my personal favourite for rendering etc, bright green.

3. Then I save as PNG.

4. Then I open up in Serif Photoplus, a program similar to GIMP or Photoshop but not as good XD.

5. Then I select the bright green lines, open a new layer, and colour them in black on the new layer.

6. Then I basically messed around with the design, colours whatever and got my finished product. I thought; "I'm good at renders, why can't I be good at drawing the same way?" XD. So what do you think?
