Why?....well, you can see for yourself. Browse the rant board, if you've never done before, but make sure you take a fire extinguisher with you....

Basically, nearly every topic posted is soon turned into a flame war of opinionated smart-arses who can't bear for someone else to have an opinion. I mean, BSers are NICE people. I know that....but since when did some of them get so ***** well wound up???

Oh and another thing. The rant board is used aswell to express people's distaste for certain bands/music/ whatever..which is biast and stupid, since there will be users out there who LIKE the band....and well there we go. Flame War land here we come. Topic Locked. Everyone goes away relieved but fuming. See what I mean?

And I always thought that the rant board was for any problems you found with Balto Source the site! Not opinoinated, biast things like BANDS. In future, people should just pm the mods with any problems they find with the site. It'll save a lot of people from having a temper-tantrum, and lead to a generally pleasanter forum.

Maybe. To me the rant board is like a much more aggressive and opinionated version of the suggestions board. I don't see why we need both.

While I agree it does often end up as flames, not every single topic does as you implied.
Rants about bands or anything else not BS related isn't allowed there so topics like that should be reported so we can lock them.

The rant board was originally created so people could vent about things about the site - hopefully something can be done about them but so we're not flooded with PMs about little things from a load of different people.

I think the rant board offers a good outlet for members' wishing to voice their dischord w/ site-related issues... and UK has a point about mods being flooded w/ PMs, over little things that could be discussed & worked out w/ the community, rather than spamming the poor mods' inboxes

I know some topics on the rant board do end up a little on the venomous side... but part of preventing the flame wars you mentioned would be to not get so hurt over a single harsh message, and react calmly & maturely. Which I think most of the BS-members do pretty well w/, despite the large crowd of young'uns. Still, you can't expect some arguments to not get *heated*. If it hurts your ears, skip over it. If you can respond intelligently w/o bashing anyone, then tally ho.

And if we did away w/ the rant board, well, where would our rants go? They'd be pent up in peoples heads, only causing more frustration and possibly members to just act spitefully in other areas of the forum... ;P

As for ranting about things like bands or movies or something, from my understanding this is against BS rules and if you see a topic like that on the rant board, just report it so it can get locked. The rant board is for community/site-related complaints only.

I am going to address several things in your post. But first, I'd like to point out that you have been on the forum for a week. Unless this is a new account, I suggest you hold off on trying to convince others to take down the rant board. You simply haven't been here long enough to really know what an effect the rant board has had.

The rant board has done some good. Because if people didn't have the rant board, their quarrels will end up elsewhere, like Kiche said. I don't see that as being a pleasanter forum.

Taking down the rant board because a few people mis-use it would be a bad move. That's like saying the internet should be taken down because there are people who relish in tampering with other people's computer systems.

I generally agree with the others who posted here against removing the rant board. There actually is very little flaming going on in the rant board. Let's remember that debating is not flaming. So many people seem to think those two terms go hand in hand. But alas, they don't. And those are probably the people responsible for a rant topic turning into a "flame war" in the first place.

I thought I had written in the rules that the rant board is only for problems on the site, but I can't find it, so...

Meh, you can't win! XD Every situation has its pros and cons, and well, for the cons, you just have to live with them! Haha, sorry UK, poor little mods ^^, it would be unfair to flood their PM boxes....lol they ARE only human, after all.

I was just thinking. I suppose my topic is actually trying to express my disgust for people who DO go about yelling at people on the rant board...because, I for one, have noticed a lot of that going on recently, since I have been here *clears throat* for more than a year. We can't do without the rant board.....I suppose, it is our way of letting off some steam. Well, I was writing the topic after looking at a rant board topic that had started off quite politely, but in a matter of pages had turned into a massive flame war, with one member in particular being quite aggressive and stubborn. Soon after I read it, the topic was locked. I had seen quite a lot of this happening, and so I suppose that influenced my mood to write this topic...oh well, I feel happier and more optomistic now...aaah.....deep blue sea....

I don't think there's much more to add to this topic?
