Well... not many. Most are huskies, wolves, or wolfdogs.


I have a lot of wolf, husky and wolfdog characters, sure, but I have characters of other breeds including but not limited to Greyhound, Akita, Kintamani, Tahltan Bear Dog, Norwegian Elkhound, Border Collie, Pharaoh Hound, and New Guinea Singing Dog.

I want to see more breeds here. I know there are more than three breeds in the whole world and more than three that can survive in the snow (4 or so listed above can) or the Balto world. It gets a little boring seeing husky after husky, wolf after wolf. Let's mix it up.

Lets see.. I have a greyhound, and english toy spaniel, an Smorkie, a Porgi.. and a Chiweenie. also a fox. ) Let's see..

If you're talking about characters, then I have a lot who aren't husky characters. In fact the closest to a husky character I have is my red faced pup version, Nekai, who is 3/4 husky, 1 part wolf. I also hae some Golden retriever characters, an old Dachshund character named Frank(Furter), a Labrador character, 2 Border Collie characters and some mutts.

To be honest I only doodle them at school, but they'll see the light of my gallery now that I have a tablet. : P

I think it's mainly because most people want a dog to be in the Balto universe in art or fics. Then they want one that can be in Balto's sled team or be in a wolf pack because...you know...WOLVES!! 8D

I have a TON of wolf and husky characters because I did the same. I really should adopt them off but I still like them. xD
A lot of people have started using other breeds now and also other animals now...admittedly mostly lions, cheetahs and horses but it's a start.
Another thing that's fun is to create your own creatures. I've done that too.

Another problem is that people get used to drawing wolves and huskies and then when they try another breed, say a greyhound, it ends up looking like a wolf anyway because they think all dogs are built the same way.

I pretty much gave away most of my husky and wolf characters. Most of my characters that are dogs are Shepherds. Even though I still have a bunch of huskies and wolfdogs, Lol. :B There's so many on here and I can't seem to pry away from the adoption section.

I agree with you. The only characters I really only see are those ol' boring huskies and wolves. People can be much, much more creative than that!

Siberian husky and wolf characters are wayy too overused. I have always wondered why people don't be creative and make characters od different breeds.. Yeah, sure, it's a Balto sire and Balto was a husky/wolf, but still. I rarely even ever see Alaskan husky characters. Just Siberian huskies and wolf/huskies. D:

Anyway, I only have a few wolf characters and like one Siberian husky character. XD Other than that, I have a too many Border collies, two Finnish lapphunds, an Alaskan malamute, about two Alaskan malamute mixes, a Border collie/Golden retriever mix, Norwegian elkhound, and a German shepherd.. and maybe a few Alaskan huskies..

Yeah, but what more can you really *expect* to see on a fanboard for Balto, but wolves, huskies, & other spitz breeds people usually imagine at the term "snow/sled dog", and most especially, what was showcased in the movies? People tend to choose breeds for their characters that would make them fit right into the Baltoverse, which mainly consists of... huskies/malamutes/wolves/etc.

I agree, some diversity would be nice to see. Unfortunately I think the popularity ranking will probably remain the same... unless they make a Balto IV featuring a yorkie-bulldog-airedale-saluki-wolfhound mix Or something XD

I myself don't really show off many of my characters here... and who I do I'll admit to being rather generic in breed, like Thunderstorm (malamute). But I do try to have a wider species/breed spectrum among my personal characters that stay on SheezyArt/devART/etc. and even a couple mostly off the internet, including (as far as dogs go) greyhounds, finnish lapphunds, border collies, mastiffs, golden retrievers, coonhounds, dobermans, dalmatians, pointers, smooth collies, and basenjis... to name most of them, if not all *brainfart*.. I'd show some of them here if I thought they related to the Balto fandom in some way, but they really don't so, I keep them separate.

I used to have a buttload of random characters of all different breeds & such back in elementary school, when I would do my [crappy] drawings mainly in notebooks w/ lined paper... but I don't like to count those cause... in all honesty they have *no* use in my present day art & stories & the like; they were all pretty much throwaway chars so... yeah... *blink* mebbe I should try adopting some out here or something... *shrug*
