Ok now I'm not sure if this has been done or not but here we go. Ok I've seen alot of adoptions but most of them are pointless, such as people just coloring lineart and posting it just for the sake of an adoption. Or another pointless thing (To me) is when people with just post a discription and don't have a picture...

For example:

Name: Penny
Age:Pup
Apperence: black and white
Accesories: Big pink bow

I mean anyone could come up with that. And one last thing, Lineart! In adoption (or even contest) rules people will say "no lineart or renders allowed" when even they themselves use lineart, I find that unfair, now I understand they want you to draw the "character" you adopted to ensure you will look after it but then like I said before "don't do it if you don't want others doing it"

I actually have to express my discord.

Most artists, when designing characters, use line art on Microsoft Paint for their project(s). I've done this a lot for my comic. It saves time and materials (rather than drawing it out, or copying your own line art on paper). By using free line art, they're making it easier, faster, and cheaper.

As for making them "solely for adoption," I'm partial. Though a lot of them are, most are not. My adoption topic(s) are designs that I made, didn't want, and couldn't see "go to waste." So why not let someone else have it, to do some good for someone? (As they say: good things should never be wasted!)

Short biographies... My, my, what can I say? I do have to agree. They're short and, overall, unattractive to the one(s) adopting out. But overly long ones are a pain, too! (That's a lot to read, and the 'adoptioneer' normally doesn't read it all.) Some people put too much into the biographies (e.g., information that isn't needed), others don't put enough. A simple solution to this is to not choose the latter, unless they say it'll be thickened out later (and you make them promise to do so and send it to you). Of course, you can always make the rule of "if you don't use it enough, I'll take it back." But it ends up in the adoption bin again, anyway!

As for "no line art/renders" being unfair... No. I direct you to paragraph #2. <3

Also, having no picture... I advise those who have done it with these words:

If you can't supply a proper visual (which is a MUST), supply a detailed description! Otherwise, you're telling anyone who might want to adopt it that the colors/design is a "free-for-all," and you might be upset later when the one they adopted doesn't "look like your character." It's a double-edged sword.

I used lineart for a contest. Why? I had a deep muscle bruise that hurt when I moved my wrist, so I had to immobilize and bandage it. It's a lot easier to use lineart then to draw a picture from scratch when you can't move your wrist.

As for short, adoption applications, the example you gave would earn my ire. But novels are annoying because the owner of the character doesn't have time to read three pages of biography.

I agree with what both of you said, but as for the lineart thing I have no problem with it people using it if they have a good reason but my thing is as I stated before is that for adoptions I've seen people use lineart for their adoptees but won't allow the potential adopter(s) to do the same

yes, this happen a lot of time and I can't say nothing because I am guilty, I used linearts in my adoption topics and I didn't allow other members to use it...why I did this? well, these times I didn't have the tablet yet and I'm usually busy so I haven't got much time to spend drawing my lineart and after color it, post ext. so, as Kirada's said before, I used linearts because it's fast and easy but who trys to adopt in my topics can't use linearts bacause I already used a lineart! and because in a good lineart some designs look great and beautiful and with the lineart you don't have many problems to reproduce it there but what if you find that the design looks ugly in your style? you'll abandon the dog that you won? so, I used linearts to show the designs but I prefer that who adopt draw personally the dog/wolf or what is it...I know, it's not fair but sometimes I allow to use them.

I can agree with you there. But, like many, I'm guilty. Why? I love seeing peoples' actual artwork of the character(s) they're interested in. It's flattering, really, and gives you an example on what they can do with the character (as far as visual execution goes).

You have a point, yes... But a lot of people have alternate reasons for "doing what they do."

Okay I've noticed another thing about the Adoption/Request/Contest sections. I notice that quite a number of people have requests saying "HELP ME DESIGN A CHARACTER PLEASE" but then that SAME person joins a contest to design someone ELSE a character AND they're adopting other peoples' characters. Why don't you just either adopt a character and USE it, or better yet, DRAW YOUR OWN CHARACTER. There's absolutely no excuse not to design your own character. Its ridiculous. If you "can't draw" use lineart, thats what its there for!

But cat,you have disigned all your chars, then made a topic called "i'm looking to adopt" You could make your own character and follow your own advice.{not meaning for that to sound like a flame]

And I clearly said in the topic that its not because I'm lazy, I was looking for characters people obviously don't use anymore annnnd thats hardly what other people do.
