(Mm, hope this would go in this section, right? :P )

Personal art project I took upon myself today, and I wanted to hear some input from the people of BS <:3

http://anbu-flashez.deviantart.com/art/ ... -107778118

Comments & critiques welcome, as I said it's a WIP (clearly.. XD ) - any tips would be nice :3 I will be looking at realistic/photo refs as I continue anywho, especially for the head & lower down the legs, and as start getting into the lil details. Probably most appreciated would be any guidance on going about the actual sculpting techniques... I'm working on VERY little experience here so any experienced sculptors who have advice to give... fire away!

Oh, and a couple specific questions if anyone could answer for me:
-To anyone who's worked w/ Sculpey clay before, how do you tame this stuff?! It takes forever to knead one small lump of clay into something you can actually mold - I've been soaking it in a small dish of water then rolling & smushing & stretching it, etc, in my hands... and no matter what I do there's always dryness & crumbling to an extent... is there any specific way I can get it to behave a little better? x.x
-How should I go about doing the lower parts of the legs? I'm thinking now I layered the aluminum foil too thick, and I may have to strip a lot of it off... but d'you think it'll be too brittle w/o a stronger base? o.o;
-What would you recommend for glaze, and about how much will a smallish bottle cost? Also, would you suggest finding faux hair of some kind for the main & tail, or attempting to do the mane & tail as Sculpey pieces as well? And if faux hair would look better, know any good ways to make it look seamless? I have a small hot glue gun but in my experience the results always end up rather crude... though it's probably my technique :P

Thanks <3

Oh wow, that's fantastic!

I'm glad you put the progress shots of the wire frame, it's really fun to see how it's built up from that.

I can't really give critiques because aside from a daft little mess around in school and a 30 minute practice at college, I've not done any sculpting but you could look for Breyer models as a good reference, their horses are absolutely amazing and have very good anatomy.

Plus, I am so watching you on dA.

That's so good! I'm going to try that. I just need to find something I can use as wire. I have a big glob of sculpy that needs to be used up.

Thanks :3 It's been fun to work on so far, I just hope my motivation doesn't disappear before i get to finish it <.<; that happens to me sometimes.

*nodnod* I've got a bunch of Breyers from which to ref, it hadn't occurred to me to take one off the shelf to look at but that's actually a great idea. Getting a good 3D view of a horse as opposed to a photo and all - I think I'll do that when I work on this guy again :3 *ponders* War Admiral would be a good model :D

Can't recall the exact thickness of the wire I used... you could probably find it at any craftstore like Michael's or AC Moore...
