This is my first fan-fic ever so please do comment but be construcitve. Here's what the story's about:

Star, a wolf, has been acting as a diplomat between his pack and another rival pack for over a year. One day, when he was leaving his territory to meet with the leader of the other pack to discuss the recent disappearances of wolves in the area; he's shot in the neck with a tranquilizer by humans and loses consciousness. When he awakes he finds himself in a cold, damp, dark room with no sunlight and is filled with the howls of wolves in pain and suffering. He freaks out until another wolf calms him down and explains to him that his old life is over and that now his very survival depends on his ability to fight...

So, that's basically an intro to the story. Of course it will evolve and get much more depth to it. As for this being a one-shot fan-fic I haven't decided yet. I have ideas for making sequels and further expanding the story but I have yet to decide. This story is also gonna be pretty violent so if ya are looking for a "tame" story, this one is not for ya.

I don't know if anybody is even interested but I'll post the first chapter in my fanfic now.

The only reason it took so long is because I've had so much finals studying to do and I can now get my fanfic chapters out at a better pace. Now, here's chapter one:

Chapter One: Abduction

Ever since he was old enough to walk Star had made it a priority to wake up every morning from his den before sunrise so he could go out to the edge of the ice fields to watch as the sun slowly rose above the horizon and turned the ice into a show of lights. But this morning was different.

Star was still asleep well after sunrise that morning and he only awoke when his small cave of a den was flooded with light by the sun. Star lived near the edge of his pack's territory in a small group of dark caves that were created by millions of years of mountain slides and glacial shifts. On clear nights Star would sit with his mate Ember and together they would spend hours upon hours looking up at the stars and the moon.

But there were problems with where he lived. If his territory was ever trespassed upon by rival wolves he would almost always be hit first by incoming wolves; or if another wolf was found wandering nearby Star had the responsibility to escort it back to where it came from. Usually by force.

When the sunlight hit Star he let out a tired growl and lowered his head to the ground so he wouldn't get blinded by the light. Grudgingly Star began to arise from his long slumber by stretching his long muscular body out on the floor listening to his joints creak and crick. When he was finally upright Star looked around his cave for any sign of his mate but she was nowhere to be found.

Star had wanted to wait for Ember to return but he didn't have any more time to waste.
Since the middle of last year wolves were disappearing from their territories never to be heard from again. Wolves vanishing was not something that was unheard of in Star's and the neighboring pack's areas but wolves were disappearing at such an alarming rate it was causing tension between packs; most notably Star's own pack the Silver Tail pack which was named after the head wolf's oddly colored tail and the Snowy River pack which lived on and near the ice floes right outside of Star's territory.

Star had elected to sleep in that morning because of his mission. The head wolf of his pack Zirco had chosen Star to be a diplomat between the snowy river pack and his own. For many generations the Snowy River pack and the Silver Tail pack waged war with each other until Zirco's father had managed to call an armistice between the two packs. This was a very successful move until the disappearances began. The Snowy River pack had lost over half of its wolves and they were convinced that Star's pack were behind it all.

Star was to meet with the leader of the Snowy River pack Pyrix at a neutral location deep into the woods far away from both packs where Star and the enemy leader would try to peacefully discuss the issue at hand.

Star was chosen for this mission because of his past experience with the Snowy River pack and also because if anybody tried to ambush him, Star would be the best able to fight off any assailants for he was the strongest available wolf in his pack.

Though his body was still young, he had already developed powerful limbs and his dew claws could slice right through another animals neck. The only visible feature on Star that was different from the other wolves in his pack was a scar that left two straight lines; one above, and one below his left eye, the remnants of an accident that occured on his first hunt when he slipped on some wet ground and landed face-first on a pile of sharp rocks.

Within the hour Star had left his pack's territory and was now on his own. For hours he slowly walked on hoping he could reach the rendezvous point by dusk. As morning turned to day and day turned to night, Star still had yet to reach his destination. He was about to give up for the day to find a den for the night when all of a sudden the area around him exploded with so much light that it was almost as if time had turned back and it was once again daylight.

With his eyes now adjusted to the dark, Star had no choice but to close them and hope for the best. When he was able to open his eyes he saw a large group of humans surrounding him; pointing long, metal poles at him. Before he could come to terms with what was happening something struck Star from behind in the back of the neck. In only a matter of seconds he was on the ground and was fighting just to stay conscious.

Before he was lost to the darkness he tried to call for help, but the only word able to get out of his mouth was "Ember"; before he was out cold; his mission a failure.

"Is he alert?"
"Yes, but it's too early to..."
"Throw him in."
"Yes sir".

This is hopefully the last time I'll post a chapter in separate parts.

Here's chapter two part one:

Chapter Two: New life

Because the room was so dark, it took Star a few seconds after opening his eyes to realize he wasn't still out. The tranquilizers had weakened his body so much that it took all his effort just to be able to get off the freezing floor.

The last thing he remembered was seeing the sky explode with light all around him; then, something hitting him, and now this unfamiliar place.

He tried looking around but between the almost total lack of light and him having just woken up, he could barely see a foot in front of him. With him being weak and with it being so dark Star had no way of knowing how big this place was or if there was even a way out.

Star had no idea where he was or how far he had traveled. The room he was in was freezing and in his territory it was still summer so either he had traveled quite far or something other than the weather was making it like this. And then there was the noise. All around him he could hear the unmistakable cries and howls of wolves in pain and suffering.

It was so unbearable that he felt as though he just woke up in hell. Star courageously took a small step forward only to have his paw land in a small puddle. When he bent down to find out what it was he was overwhelmed with the smell of blood.

Star began to freak out. He ran up to the hard cement walls and started pounding on them with his paws. He tried yelling hoping someone would come by "where am I? What is this place? Why am I here? W..." Star was cut-off in mid-sentence by a wolf lying a foot away making a grunt in Star's general direction.

As Star got close to it, he saw it was a wolf that probably wasn't too much older than him. It had brown fur with white patches across it's back and it looked like it had a strong body. With just a few more steps towards it, it's most prominent feature came into focus. It was covered in blood both old and new and there were cuts and puncture marks all over it.

"Hey, what happened to you? Are you all right?" said Storm in a caring voice. "Listen, do you know what this crazy place is because this is like no place I've ever been." said Star. "Come closer" said the wolf and when Star obeyed and was right next to it, it lashed out and hit Star right in the jaw. "Now, maybe you'll shut up" said the wolf as Star hit the had floor.

And here's the final part of chapter two; and from now on they won't come in "parts"

The hit from the wolf was just too much for Star to handle in his condition. There was no hope of getting up for quite some time so Star had to deal with laying down on the blood-soaked floor. "What was that for?" said Star through gritted fangs. "Listen" said the wolf "if you keep on yelling like that then you'll get the attention of people far worse than myself. People that will kill you and not think twice about it. So try not to make such a ruckus."

Star was confused. "What people? How did we get here? Where are we? Why are we here? Why are you so banged up?"

The wolf let out a slight laugh. "The same people who took you here fool. I think they used something in those poles of theirs to knock us out, and then they moved us to this hell. None of us knows where we are because this and the arena are the only places we've seen since we've been here. As for why we're here? To fight each other and to die here. That's it.

"Wait" said Star "why don't all of you just stop fighting?"

The wolf looked down and shook his head. Star noticed some blood drops land on his fur. "Because if we don't then they'll just kill us all. But there's another reason.

"What?" asked Star.

"The winner gets to leave. There's so much about this place that you need to know." said the wolf. "Say, I never got to introduce myself. I'm 34; who are you?"

Here's chapter three:

Chapter Three: Number 77

Star was taken completely off-guard by this wolf. He didn't know what to expect next from it because one minute it's telling him to shut up and now it's asking for his name. Still, Star knew it would be rude to not introduce himself. He also knew he might need all the friends he could get in this place.

"I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself" Star said. "My name's Star and I'm from the Silver Tail pack". He stopped talking though when the wolf raised his paw at him and gave him the universal gesture for telling somebody to stop.

"I don't care about your old name or where you're from and neither should you. Those kinds of things mean nothing in here. I meant what's your number?" said the wolf in a very annoyed tone.

"What number?" asked a very confused and curious Star.

"It's right there on your collar." replied the wolf as it then pointed down at Star's neck.

Star looked down and to his amazement, there was a metal and fabric collar around his neck and in the center there was a small metal circle with some writing on it. In between losing himself and meeting this wolf Star had completely forgotten to check himself. He secretly wondered what else might be on him.

"See?" said the wolf. "Can you tell me what it says on the little circle? I can't see too well in here."

Star looked down and examined the metal circle. In the middle he could make out in faded lettering two numbers, a seven and another seven right next to the first one. Before looking back at the wolf he checked out the rest of his collar but there was nothing else inscribed upon it.

"Ummm. It says seventy-seven. What does that mean?" asked Star.

"It means it's your new name and rank. At any one time there are always one-hundred of us in here and they use these collars to tell us apart. It seems that your number is seventy-seven. Mine is thirty four so that's what you can call me." said thirty four.

"So", said Star gloomily. "How did I get this number? You said this is some fight thing so is this a ranking of my strength?"

"No. The number and collar belonged to other wolves before you. It was just a coincidence that you got that and not something else. I've seen wolves that had number two and were weak as hell and I've seen wolves that had something like ninety-five and won." replied thirty-four almost nostalgically.

"So, if you've seen all this then you must have been here for quite some time" said Star.

"I've been here for......" thirty four stopped talking when all of a sudden little red lights were flashing along the walls accompanied by an alarm that filled the room with a screeching noise.

"Oh, s**T!!!!!" said thirty four "It's starting."

I hate to say this to ya few readers but soon I'm gonna stop adding chapters on this site soon. I might post later on but after chapter six I won't be posting new chapters for quite some time(if I even do).

I will post a link to the another site in my final post where I'll still be posting new chapters so ya can still read it there.

Here's chapter four:

Chapter Four: Battle Royale

When he looked around the room Star was completely caught off-guard by the sudden amount of activity from the other wolves. Just a minute ago they looked like they were on their deathbeds but now they were leaping off the ground and running for any of three holes that just opened up in the walls.

"What's going on here?" asked Star to thirty four.

"You know what" said thirty four. "You really got here at the worst possible time. You know those fights I was telling you about? Well, another one's about to start and if you want to live to even get to the fight then you'll get out into that arena now!"

Right after giving Star this warning thirty four immediately ran to one of the exits before disappearing into the darkness. Star wasn't very far behind and he would have caught up to thirty four had it not been for what Star saw next to the entrance. To the left of the entrance on the ground was a group of three bloodied wolves huddled together.

Remembering what thirty four had said to him about leaving Star hurried over to them so he could warn them. "Hey, you guys need to get out now and go to the arena. Come on, you don't want to die do you?" pleaded Star.

He was unsure of whether the wolves heard him or not seeing as how they gave no response to him of any kind. Star then heard a loud "thunk" noise and when he turned his attention back to the entrances he say why. One of them had just been sealed shut and the second one was almost closed too.

Not wanting to meet the same fate as the wolves he was about to leave behind. Star ran into the last open entrance and tried to prepare himself for what he was about to face.

As he got to the entrance Star was once again blinded by light so intense he had to cover let his eyes adjust from the darkness he was in before he could continue on. At last Star had cleared the entrance and it was not a moment too soon for about a minute after stepping into the arena the last open entrance/escape had sealed shut.

Star was horrified with what he saw upon entering. On the ground there were mangled and bloody wolves ever where and it was almost impossible to tell by looking who was and wasn't alive anymore. All around the arena Star heard both the voices of wolves fighting and what seemed to be humans talking somewhere above them. He tried to look up but the light coming from the ceiling caused him to tilt his head back down.

And it was in that one moment of vulnerability that it happened. Star had no idea of a wolf sneak up behind him until it's powerful jaws and teeth tightened around his neck and throat. One hit was all it took to bring Star down but the wolf wasn't done yet.

The already defeated Star had no idea that the wolf above him was preparing to finish him off for good. Also unbenounced to Star was that right before the wolf's killing blow would have hit Star number thirty four came out from nowhere and attacked the assailant saving Star's life.

Thirty four had also made that one near-fatal mistake of letting his guard down after saving Star; and the final remaining wolves in the fight were not going to miss that opportunity.

Two minutes later the fight was over. It hadn't lasted very long but the destruction caused by it was incredible. Out of 100 wolves five had died and ten more were near-death. While the survivors were being taken back to the room they had entered from the winner; number twelve was being escorted out of the arena and was going to leave that place for good.

Well, the time has come. Due to a lack of interest this will be the last chapter of my fanfic posted on this site. If ya still want to read it then here's a link(don't worry it's safe) to the site where I'll still be updating new chaptershttp://www.mylionking.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=565

Here's the last chapter(for this site):

Chapter five: Number 28

After the fighting had ended and the winner was taken away all the wolves were to be brought back to their holding room. Despite his current physical state, Star was coherent enough to notice when the humans began to drag him back to the room. Had he not just been attacked Star would have tried to attack the humans and escape. But Star was in no position to make such a move; so Star chose to not make any waves and just go with the flow for he knew he would get his chance. He just had to wait a little longer.

Once all the wolves were back in the humans made sure the exits were sealed and all the wolves were accounted for before leaving. It took all of Star's energy and most of his time, but just when he was about to give up searching he found thirty four.

Star moved right next to him so they could talk without bothering everybody else. Star may have been feeling hurt but it was nothing compared to how thirty four was. Thirty four had countless cuts and puncture marks from teeth and claws all over his body from the fight and it was taking all of his effort just to be able to stay conscious.

"Hey" whispered Star. "Are all the fights like that?"

"Yeah, that's how it always goes." replied thirty four.

"Great" said Star sarcastically. "I gotta ask. There were these wolves that stayed behind. Did they really die?" asked Star.

"So some of them stayed, huh? Well, one of the reasons the exits close is because they go in there and kill any wolves that either can't fight anymore or have given up and want to die. But it doesn't matter to them because they just bring more in after each fight. Listen, don't be sad for them. Wherever they are now it's a lot better than here." said thirty four.

"The worst thing is that I was so weak" said Star gloomily. "I mean, the second I got in there I was attacked from behind and I couldn't even fight back."

"I know" said thirty four. "I saw it all happen and he would have killed you if I hadn't stepped in."

"Who attacked me?" said Star curiously.

"It was twenty eight. He's been here for almost as long as me and he's so desperate to get out he'll resort to fighting dirty if it means winning. Once he had almost won too but when it came down to him and the former ninety two he just wasn't strong enough. Since then he's gotten at least five other wolves on his side and he's become one of the most dangerous wolves here. If you value your life I suggest you try to avoid him, because you're just not strong enough yet."

"Well, thanks for saving me." said Star. "I can't say I blame him though. I won't say what he's doing is right, but I know how he must feel. I'd do almost anything to get out too; and I think I know a way for us all to escape" said a smiling Star.

On the other side of the room twenty eight sat against the wall with his allies to the right of him. He had been fighting for almost a year now and to him the chance of leaving was getting further out of reach with each loss. Still, he didn't care how long it took him. He was going to get back to his pack even if it killed him.

Well, after finishing my fanfic I've decided that I'll now post the remaining chapters here. I won't do 'em all at once of course so I'll now post chapters six and seven.

Note:Anything in italics is meant to be an event that has taken in the past/before Star's capture.

Chapter six: Two days to die

Two days before the capture

"We've never encountered anything like this before in the entirety of our pack's history. Just yesterday we lost another five-wolf group when they failed to return from their hunting mission, bringing the total number of disappearances to twenty three. Sure, we lose people every now and then but this is like nothing we've ever seen before. We've already lost almost half of our pack in just these past few months and it's only been getting worse. At this rate of loss our entire pack will be gone in approximately four months if we don't do something now." said Alpine.

Alpine was one of the most powerful and respected members of his pack and if he was going to say such drastic things then it would be wise to heed his warnings which had never been wrong before. Since the age of six he had spent most of his time trying to build up a vast web of contacts and intelligence throughout not only his pack but most of the enemy packs as well. Because of his connections he was a keystone member of the Snowy River pack and his main duties were to warn the rest of his pack about any possible dangers so they could be prepared.

After this dire warning from Alpine the entire den was echoing with the voices of wolves in a heated debate. Because his pack was located primarily on the ice; caves were a rarity so dens were made out of the crevices in the ice but they could also be made out of large holes dug with the combined effort of most of the wolves in the pack.

This den was even more special than all the other's in Alpine's territory. It was the hollowed-out remains of a small fissure in the ice and in comparison to the other dens it was quite large and spacious. Because of its size it served not only as the head of the pack's den but as a type of meeting place and town hall where discussions were often held.

The arguing in the den lasted for a full two minutes before the head wolf Pyrix silenced all of the wolves with nothing more than a sharp glare from his eyes.

When he saw all the wolves finally calm down Pyrix opened his mouth and while all the other wolves could hear, he aimed his words at Alpine.

"I know how bad this is but there's not much I can do at the moment. Like you said, we don't have as many people as we had and we're losing more all the time. We only have a few good fighters left and I can't just let them go on a suicide mission and have us be defenseless. " said Pyrix.

Although Alpine knew what Pyrix was going to say, he still felt let-down when the answer came.

"Is there nobody we can send?" asked Alpine. "I'd be willing to go and I heard that Janx is back from his hunting trip. With the two of us and maybe a few other wolves we could try to find out who or what's doing this and maybe even stop it for good. I can get us ready within two days." said Alpine in an unusually hopeful tone.

"Why should I even let you go? Not only do I need somebody who knows what's happening and who can get information but do you even have any reason for going then?" said Pyrix. He wasn't about to let some of his most important pack members go without a good reason.

"Ever since the first disappearances started, I've been recording when they happen and I've found a pattern. It seems that the disappearances happen about twice a week and if we go by the pattern the next ones will be two days from now. That means we have time to prepare for this but we can make sure we find out what's really been going on" said Alpine.

"Okay then. I'll allow this mission but I won't be able to provide any reinforcements if something bad happens. You'll be on your own this time" said Pyrix. He was truly concerned about this mission because he simply could not afford to let anything bad happen to his few remaining pack mates.

"That won't be a problem." said Alpine as he walked out of the den. He soon got all the wolves that were going briefed on the mission before having them and himself go back to their mates and retire for the evening.

The next few days were not going to be very easy for them.

And here's chapter seven:

Chapter seven: One day to uncover the truth

One day before the capture

It had been a whole month since Janx had been at home with his mate Amber which made it even more difficult for Janx to tell her that he was going to leave again in a day.

Janx had just gotten back from his hunting trip last night and he never expected to have to leave again so soon; but he knew that this would be very important and he was not going to argue with Pyrix. While out on his trip Janx hadn't heard of any more disappearances nor did he come back with any information.

He had however come back with something just as important, food. Because of the loss of so many pack mates and because of the place that his pack lived finding food wasn't easy and it was getting harder. Almost all the time when hunting they would find themselves in another pack's territory and they would have no choice but to leave and try another area. But Janx was good at hunting and he never got caught by enemy wolves. It was mostly for this reason that Pyrix didn't want to send Janx, because then it would be near-impossible for his pack to survive.

But Janx had other things to worry about then just keeping his pack alive. His mate Amber was expecting to have pups soon and Janx didn't want them to grow up without a father.

It was when Janx was trying to spend his last day before the mission with Amber that Janx heard Pyrix howl for Janx to come to his den.
"I'm sorry, but I have to go." said Janx to Amber as he was walking to the entrance of his den.

"It's okay" said Amber trying to be understanding while also trying to hold back her sadness. "Just promise me that you'll come back allright ."

"I promise." were the last words Janx said to Amber before leaving. He took one last look at her his eyes filled with sadness before leaving for Pyrix's den.

After ten minutes of traveling Janx had arrived at Pyrix's den only to be greeted by the impatient stares of Pyrix, Alpine, and the other wolves who would be going on the mission. But something wasn't right in the den. On the ground there was a faint trail of blood leading to a small raised platform on which there was a the body of a wolf; surrounded in a semi-circle by all the wolves.

"Come here" said Pyrix as he motioned to Janx who quickly walked over and joined the group. "Alpine has something to tell us."

"Yes, and this might just explain what's been going on. Last night one of our patrols found the body of one of our pack mates who went missing a week ago. As you can see it has small puncture marks all over it which look like those a wolf would make. What's even more surprising is that it was found just inside of the Silver Tail Pack's territory" said Alpine.

Pyrix turned his head so that he was staring Alpine straight in the eye. "If what you're saying is true then this calls for war, so are you absolutely sure that nobody else could have done this?" asked Pyrix in the most serious tone that any of the wolves present had ever heard from him.

"It has to be them. All the evidence suggests that they did it and I think that we can catch them in the act tomorrow." said Alpine

"And if you don't return?" asked Pyrix

"Then you'll know it was them" said Alpine.

It's been a while but here are the next two chapter updates:

Chapter eight: Zero hour

Immediately after the meeting had concluded all the wolves that were leaving made sure that they were ready for the mission. They planned to leave early in the morning and head out to a secluded clearing where they would wait until nightfall to see if anything would happen; and, if the opportunity presented itself, kill whatever was causing this.

Seven hours after departing: the hour of the capture

The area that the group had chosen was atop a small hill overlooking a small circular clearing surrounded on all sides by tall trees. Once they had gotten there earlier that day they had chosen for one member to act as a lookout at the top of the hill while the others would hide along the edges of the clearing.

Janx had been selected to be the lookout that day and after hours of not even being able to talk to his pack mates he was getting impatient. Feeling like he could get away without any harm being done he left his post for about two minutes to relieve himself.

On his way back he saw something that he had not seen just moments ago. There was a bright light coming from the direction of the other wolves. "I wonder what that is" said Janx to himself. He paid no attention to it as he approached because it represented no real threat to him; until he got back to the hill and was able to see everything more clearly.

Something bad was happening in the light. Inside of it Janx could hear loud bangs, screaming from humans, and the sounds of his fellow wolves fighting in mortal combat with whoever was in there.

It took only a matter of seconds for Janx to realize that something terrible was happening and without any hesitation he leaped off the hill and straight into the light.

As soon as his eyes had adjusted he could see blood everywhere along with not only several human corpses but also the bodies of his pack mates which had the same puncture marks on them as the one they had examined yesterday night. It was then that Janx had put all the pieces of the puzzle together. He knew he had to leave for his pack immediately before another war would be sparked with the Silver Tail Pack.

And he would have succeeded too had it not been for him failing to notice the human shoot him in the back of the neck with a tranquilizer. In his last few moments of consciousness he stumbled forward and found the body of his best friend Alpine. The next thing he saw was darkness.

"Ugh. Where am I?" said Janx as his eyes slowly opened up to a freezing and lightless room. The events of last night were a blur to him as he tried to recall how he winded up where he was. When he finally got up he heard a slight jingle come from his body only to realize there was a collar on him. The collar was almost completely empty save for a small engraving on the center of it. "Twenty eight? What does that mean?" asked Janx to himself.

Snowy river pack territory: Pyrix's den

"And at this time we have confirmed the deaths of all the wolves we sent out yesterday except for Janx. We could not find his body but he is believed to be dead along with the others" announced Pyrix to his pack, all of whom were gathered in the den. "Because they were killed and went missing in the Silver Tail Pack's territory yet again we have no choice but to assume this was all their doing. At this time I'm officially declaring war on the Silver Tail Pack." said a both saddened and furious Pyrix to his pack.

Chapter nine: Nobody's gonna save you

Silver tail pack territory: One week after Star's capture

Ember was getting desperate. She had been looking for anything that could help her find her mate almost non-stop for an entire week. As soon as she had gotten news of his disappearance she began to completely devote herself to organizing searches and getting into arguments with Zirco who had more to worry about than just Star's disappearance.

But to Ember finding Star was the only thing of importance. Still, despite her best efforts she had yet to come up with anything that would help her; and the rest of the wolves were starting to get impatient and believe that this was a lost cause.

At the beginning Ember had at least fifteen other wolves that would help her on her searches but that number had fallen to the point that only four other wolves were willing to look for Star anymore and even they were about ready to give up. This lack of support made it even harder to look for Star and it was only getting harder for Ember.

She was expected to have pups within the week and all this stress and activity were bad both for Ember and her pups. It wasn't even a good idea for her to be out like this but Ember was stubborn and she wouldn't take no for an answer when it came to this.

(a wolf howl)

"*****, we gotta go already?" said a frustrated Ember who was now just staring at the old-growth forest landscape that was all around her. "Where are you Star?" thought Ember as she took one last mournful glance before leaving to meet up with the rest of the search party who by now was getting ready to head back and report to Zirco.

Thirty minutes later: Zirco's den

"So, it looks like you didn't find anything again" said Zirco as he addressed Ember and her search party.

"Yes, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying. I know we can find him if we have just a little more time" said Ember.

"Well we don't have any more time for this. I know that he's your mate and we all miss him but in case you didn't know we're at war now and we simply can't keep spending all our time on this. We don't even know if he's alive or have any idea of what happened to him. It's just not fair to the other wolves that disappeared, to our pack, and I'm sure he wouldn't want you to endanger yourself and the pups." said Zirco as he walked up to Ember and tried to comfort her. "I know how much he means to you but for now you're going to have to stop worrying about him and start worrying about yourself."

"But I still have to keep looking." pleaded Ember to Zirco. She knew it was getting less and less likely that she would find him but giving up was not an option.

"No you do not!" shouted Zirco who was not going to hear any more excuses. "I'm ordering you to stop going out looking and you're going to rest up because your almost ready to give birth." Zirco then turned toward the rest of the search party who had been standing there in awkward silence while Ember and Zirco were talking.

"I want you to walk Ember back to her den and I want at least one of you there at all times so she doesn't run away. Also, tell the rest of the pack that we're done searching. If Star's still alive then he'll have to get himself back."

Here's chapter ten:

Chapter ten: Our only chance at freedom

Three months after Star's capture: The room where the wolves are kept

"Do you think this will really work?" asked number thirty four. He and Star were standing near the entrances to the battle arena and another fight was about to take place. They were distracted by the wolves rushing by them and heading off to fight.

"Well, I don't know what's going to happen. We've tried to be as prepared as possible so now all we can do is hope it all goes according to plan" replied Star. "Still, we can't afford to screw this up so let's just hope it works."

"Okay, let's just hope that the rest of us don't screw this up. "

"They won't. They have just as much to lose as us if this doesn't work out right. And besides as long as he doesn't find out what we're doing then we shouldn't fail." said Star as he tried to act confident in his plan.

The previous night

"So this is all the wolves that you were able to get?" said Star as he looked gloomily upon the small semi-circle of wolves that were surrounding him and thirty four. Because there was almost no light Star had a hard time figuring out how many wolves there were but by his count there couldn't have been more than about twenty.

"These were all the wolves I could get that I could trust not to betray us" replied thirty four in a rather annoyed tone. He had spent the last few months working on finding wolves he could trust and it hadn't been easy for him because not only did he have lots of enemies, but it was hard to trust him seeing as how he wasn't able to give away any real information.

"Fair enough" replied Star "I guess I should tell them what we're going to do before they leave us." Star cleared his throat before aligning himself so he could meet the eyes of the rest of his allies.

"If you want to back out now then this will be your last chance. I'm afraid that I can't risk any of you telling the other wolves what we're planning on doing because if they know then the whole plan will be ruined" Star waited for a response and he even expected some of them to leave but after a whole two minutes in which nobody left Star felt that it was safe to continue.

"Now here's the plan. From what thirty four told me there's going to be another fight tomorrow and that's when we'll make our move. I'll only tell you this once so make sure you don't forget it. The first part of our plan is..."

The present

"It looks like we should get going then" said thirty four as he watched one of the exits close.

"Yeah, well good luck" said Star as the two of them left for the arena.

Here's chapter eleven:

Chapter eleven: Counterattack

Despite having fought dozens of times since he had been abducted Star never had stopped being nervous when he entered the arena, and today he was even more nervous than usual. He had learned that after his first fight that because of the darkness in the holding room and because of the unusually high amount of light in the arena it was best if he closed his eyes as he entered so he could adjust to the light changes without being blinded.

As Star was entering the arena through the tunnel he tried hard not to think about the possibility of him failing and having everybody die because of him screwing up. But try as he might that thought was always popping into his head whenever he tried not to think about it.

And then there was Ember. Star knew that he would never see her again if this didn't work out so he tried hard to not think about her and losing her forever either. But she was also the driving force behind his desire to escape so Star also wanted to keep her in mind at all times so he could motivate himself to not fail.

When Star had gotten close enough to the arena to see light penetrating the darkness of the tunnel he slowly closed his eyes as much as possible forcing him to grope the walls of the tunnel until he had finally entered the arena.

Star like most every time was one of the last few wolves to get there and he was the last of the conspirators to arrive. It was not long before entering that he had came across another wolf in the sea of carnage that was not allied with him; so Star quickly pounced upon the wolf and sliced it's neck causing blood to splatter along the cement floor.

This action and Star's arrival had not gone unnoticed because within a couple of seconds of bringing down the wolf one of the conspirators and Star's allies ran up to Star and tackled him to the ground causing Star to let out a huge gasp for air as all the air in his lungs was forced out of his body by the impact on the ground.

The wolf in question, number one hundred, was unable to enjoy his victory for long before another conspirator had begun to attack him. Pretty soon it was only the conspirators left fighting save for Janx and his followers. Within minutes of Star's defeat the battle was over as quickly as it had started and to everybody's surprise and amazement Janx was the last man standing and had had finally won.

The previous night:

"The first part of our plan is that we're going to give up on winning this time. We're going to throw the battle." said Star to the group of wolves who were around him.

As he expected the looks on the wolves faces quickly went from anxious to either downright confused or furious with many having a combination of the two looks. For a few seconds nobody knew how to react until number one hundred dared to speak up.

"Are you mad?!" shouted one hundred. "If we just throw the whole battle then how the hell do you expect us to escape?" This cause the wolves to start to murmur amongst themselves and Star had to politely but firmly get their attention back to him before they gave up.

"Listen, the reason we have you here is that we can trust you to not only not betray us but also to not tell the person who we're going to throw the battle to" said Star.

"And who would that be?" asked number one hundred to Star.

"The person that we're going to let win is number twenty eight" said Star calmly.

"But why don't we have him and his group join us?" asked one hundred.

"Because we can't trust them and we also can't have them help us because then what we're doing will be too obvious. But that's only the first part of our plan. The second part is...."

Back to the present:

"Yes!! I finally did it!!" shouted an ecstatic Janx as he stood proudly in the arena. He was so happy to have won after all this time and he couldn't help but get overly-happy at the thought of seeing his mate Amber again.

Soon after the battle the humans came marching in the room carrying stretchers to carry the wolves and guns just in case they would need them.

A small group of the humans walked up to and surrounded Janx and pointed their guns at him gesturing for him to follow them and not try anything funny. As Janx was departing the arena he took one last look back at the wolves he was leaving behind.

Ten minutes after Janx was gone and was safely leaving the building the rest of the humans began to start the process of bringing the wolves back into the holding room. It seemed way too easy for them because the wolves looked like they had fought so hard that there would be no trouble.

However after only a minute a voice came across the radio that was screaming.

The Previous night:

"The second part is that we will only fight each other and we'll have to make it look like we're going all-out but we can't waste any real energy and we shouldn't try to hurt each other much 'cause that's the key. When the fight is over and the humans come to get us we'll be playing dead and we'll be ready for them" said Star.

Back to the present:

"Hey...Wait...Aaaaagh!! Some of the wolves are getting up and are attacking u..." were the last words before the transmission ended.
