I post these tips as a guide to avoid being attacked by a shark,if anyone is ever at the beach.

1.Stay out of the ocean at dawn, dusk and after dark, when many sharks swim close to shore to feed.

2.Swim and surf at beaches with lifeguards, who are watchful for sharks. They can tell you if certain areas of the coast are prone to shark attacks.

3.Pay attention to signs posted on beaches where sharks have been sighted.

I hope these tips prove to be helpful,as well as useful.

I also have some:

4. Most attacks occur in shallow water or off reefs so be careful of that.

5. Rivers with mouths near coasts are also not always safe because Bull Sharks can go into them which is why they are suspected to be the species responsible for the most attacks on humans.

6. Most sharks will attack people surfing because from below the human will look like a seal to the shark which is one reason for attacks.

7. Only a few species out of hundreds will attack if unprovoked so if ya see a shark don't splash around too much or try to bother it.

I have one I can remember. Do not go into water with an open wound the smell of blood causes sharks to go crazy.

Well, if you ever do get attacked by a shark and it bite's you, here is some advice to get out of it.

1. punch it in the gill's
2. Jab it in one of the eye's (preferably with your knuckle or any sharp part of your body (depending on the place the shark has ahold of you)).
3. Additional tip(if you do it right): there is a sensitive gland or something like that on the shark's nose, and if you rub it in the right place it will put the shark in a trance(all of it's muscles will freeze).

-All these tip's are courtesy of the discovery channel

-(it saved my hand from almost being chopped off by a fairly large sand tiger pup when I lived down in florida)

How did that happen? Sand Tiger sharks are usually gentle towards humans and won't attack un-less bothered.

How do ya know it was a Sand-tiger? I think one of the most reasonable explanations would be a bull-shark. Also, there have only been four species of sharks that have had anything to do with lots of un-provoked attacks on people and they are Great white, Bull shark, Tiger shark, and the Oceanic whitetip. And out of those four it was also recently decided the Oceanic whitetip was the only one to have committed mass-unprovoked attacks like on the USS Indianapolis.

A Sand-tiger would not be a likely suspect for your attack.
