He doesn't. Officially. All that happened was the producer's of WQ and WoC decided not to include him, same with most of the other character's from the original movie. They did cameo though, Steet wrote an article on that on the main site.

True that Steele doesn't die. False that they're too lazy to put him in the sequels. Try to think a bit: in WQ I dubt that Steele could have a role, Jenna, Boris and the others were cutted off too because the story was only about Balto and Aleu's journey. In WoC, in the end, when Balto and Duke were falling down the cliff, Steele had to arrive and save them but they decided to gave to Kodi that role since he's Balto's son and he hadn't got a lot of space in the movie...so, no lazyness! U_U
