I'm listening to it now. I haven't been on the site for too long and I'm not sure who all the people you're referencing are, but one thing you said struck a chord with me. There does seem to be a definite lack of actual Balto-related threads, conversations, etc. I'm like you, when I first joined I wanted to talk about Balto. That was the whole reason I joined the site, because I love Balto. It may just be because Balto has been out for 13 years and maybe there's just nothing left to talk about, and that's understandable. But sometimes I wish people were more interested in talking about Balto. I'm not an artist so I haven't contributed anything to the site as far as artwork. But I love writing so I've been contributing fanfics. One of the things I love about writing fanfics for this site is that I'm able to write about Balto and his family. I try to stay within the canon of the Balto movies as much as I can in my stories, because that's what I love writing about. If I could draw, I would be drawing Balto, Jenna and their pups. That's just me. The way I see it, it's the least I can do as someone who loves Balto as a member of this site. That's why I upload my fanfics here instead of somewhere else, in the hopes that other people here who love Balto will enjoy my fanfics as much as I enjoy writing them. Without the prospect of another Balto movie, what else can we do? I know that a lot of the fanfics here on the site were very inspirational to me, and a few of them in particular really motivated me to write my own. So I see what I'm doing as "passing it forward." Maybe somebody will be inspired by my fics enough to write their own which will continue to keep the lantern burning. Balto is just too good of a movie to let it fall by the wayside. I signed the petition, I fully support any fan-based effort to keep the Balto legacy going and I'll continue to do whatever I can do to contribute Balto-related material to the site in the hope of keeping the level of interest up. -X

Well, I have listened to it and have come up with a few thoughts. 1. This presention you guys made should be a wake-up call for everyone that is into Balto, we really need to be united, not just Balto Source, but anywhere. Even though we vary from age, likes, and passions, we are all here for the purpose that we all like Balto. 2. Even though I have never been in the shout box portion of the site, it sounds like there is always some issue going on there. The example of someone coming in there saying that they are depressed and gets ridiculed for that is pretty stupid and inmature on those people's actions. Maybe shout box should either be policed more or shouldn't be there at all. 3. I am a music video maker (and a rookie at that...lol), and I guess its one way I portray myself as being a fan. I don't know what it will take me too, but its a nice thing for me to do when I have a day when I have nothing to do and I have a computer and wmm right there for me to explore something new, like a technique. I guess the problem is the vast majority of people would do a music video with an idea that has already been used. Personally, I strive to do a song or some style that hasn't been tried before instead of doing a music video with a popular band and one of their popular songs that has been used more than once. In fact, I do music videos for other things (NASCAR for example), so its not all pertained to Balto. I guess what the music video fandom needs is some kind of identity by someone and for people like me to do something that has never been done before. 4. As far as the mods and the site admin goes, I am not a regular poster here, so I won't go into that area and start making conclusions about stuff that I don't know about. I was, and was is the keyword there, a mod at another forum, and let me tell you, its not a fun job. It is a job to be taken very seriously. For me, when I was a mod, my intentions were for the people of the forum, to make sure that everything was within the rules, and to gurantee the safety of the forum from a potential attack and taking the necessary precautions to make sure nothing happens. If its true that people are asking to be mods, and they become mods, that is by far not the way how someone should be a mod. A mod is someone that people on the forum knows, trusts, and is respects the site and the people on it and will make it their duty to preserve the forum and preserve the fandom. 5. I personally think more needs to be done to make sure that the legacy of Balto lives on. As far as the legacy itself, I do not only look at it from the standpoint of the three movies, I look at the standpoint of the real life story behind Balto; and not just Balto, but all the mushers and dogs that played a role into saving the town of Nome from more deaths of the outbreak. Something like BaltoStock is a great idea, because fans can come together and share their passion for Balto and what makes Balto meaningful to them. The petition for a special edition of Balto is perfect. Believe it or not, there are people out there that not only have no idea about the Balto movies, but do not know the true story that is behind it. It is our duty as fans of Balto to share the word with people who do not know, to share our passion of it. At the NASCAR forums I am at, there is not one person there who does not know that I am a fan of Balto; its in my avatar, in my signature, and I make quite a few references to Balto from time to time. It is a great American story that should never be forgotten and when I leave this world someday, I hope that it stays that way. That is all I can think of, for now at least.

JerseyCaptain wrote: Not bad. Unbelievably long (lol), but you hit on some very good points. It was, unfortunately, difficult to understand or comprehend what some people were saying because of bad audio levels and acoustics. So the value of what they said is lost (specifically two individuals...one younger guy's voice sounded hollow and tinny, and the other sounded like he was talking through an empty paper towel roll...I'm thinking that he was using a speakerphone feature - couldn't understand them). A couple of times, the signals themselves cut out.
Perhaps this could have been cut into shorter segments dealing with specific subjects. And I wouldn't mind getting involved...if you guys would let me...
But you started something here. Of course, some of this has been debated and debated (and argued) on the rant board, and off the site.
Who were the participants again? Some of that wasn't clear either (beyond what has been shown in this topic)... Anybody can join this, I think the next time we talk, we want to have a talk with the mods, so that we can resurrect the site and choose what works & what should be gone. But we (the people who will do this) have to come up with a date, so look forword to that. So just give me a call when you are ready & make sure you have a mic & Skype. You can also join the fan comentary on Balto 1 that is happing on the 22th, but I want to try and get as many people on that as possible. I also saw those pictures of the trip you had....and i have to say...way was that topic not talked about, when it is a important piece of Balto History?

I don't know that a certain number of mods would enjoy or encourage (or look forward to) my participation, even though I am quite capable of being civil, understanding and magnanimous, and am quick to give credit - where credit is due. Of course, I am also quite quick to point out what I see as problems and short-comings (and lack of responsibility). And that, apparently, is something I am not allowed to talk about on this site. But I'd need to know the details of how to contact your call group. Or do I PM you? See, I really don't know how this would work, though I have a rudimentary familiarity with Skype through the last business I worked for. And I do have a microphone. dpstq wrote: You can also join the fan comentary on Balto 1 that is happing on the 22th, but I want to try and get as many people on that as possible. Go on Skype and look up the name "dpstq88" and give me your contect there. Once everyone has set a date for the next talk group, I'll send you a PM about it. Same thing goes for the commentary, I'll send you a PM the day before & on the day of the commentary. The thing is we will have to time our T.V.s or computers at the same time when we wach the film.

Excelent piece, very cool.
As far as the fan base is concerned, I think the issue is just what Xaqtly said, it's been 13 years since the first one, and Universal clearly doesn't care to keep it alive. What is there left to talk about?
The fan base itself I think amazingly is still growing. I see all kinds of Balto related stuff on youtube and other sites like this one that get more and more people talking about it and I wonder where all these people were when the movie first came out. I think us fans have done an amazing job keeping it alive for so long. Even if it has been 13 years, I can't imagine Balto becomming just another old movie. Even HBO sees it's still worth playing. They aired it throughout October and November and are running it again throughout January. I don't know if that has anything to do with increasing fans demands, but I think it could because this is the first time I've seen it run on HBO since they bought the rights to it 10 years ago.

What all fans have to understand is that the future of Balto is in our hands. The reson way Balto " failed", was so that it would be our responsibility to show it's success. And with our ideas & actions, we will bring a overwhelming wave of reminisce that no company could ever achieve
