This really looks like an awesome movie! It comes out on December 25, and it's about the story of German officer Claus von Stauffenberg (sp?) as he joins the German resistance against the Nazi party, climbs the German military ranks, and eventually finds himself in a perfect position to carry out what the German resistance deems to be the only way to overthrow the Nazi regime: assassinate Adolf Hitler. This story actually happened, but until now, it was a little-known story.

What also might make this movie great is the fact that it has absolutely no CGI effects! Imagine, a modern movie with no CGI!

Anyway, I'm going to see it as soon as I can. You all have any expectations about this movie?

My honest review:

Alright, I'll start off by using the overused cliche: Tom Cruise is in this movie and sucks. Okay, now that's out of the way, let me continue. There have been dozens and dozens of movies based off WW2 for the past....30 years, wasn't it? Basically a big majority of them concentrate on one thing: D-Day and the Invasion of Europe. While that's all good, what happened to good ol' Africa and driving Rommel and his Panzers away from there? The invasion of Italy? Well in this movie, here we go again: Good ol' Europe, and it's based in WW2. The difference? We have a Nazi as the main character planning the assasination of Hitler. Now we all know this would never happen, but I often joked with my History teacher, "What if they decided to pull an M. Night Shamylan and have a suprise twist ending?" But nope, Tom Cruise invades Good Morning America and spoils the ending. I'd like to have seen an alterate ending, but it seems that fact is better these days, so oh well.

Now, the acting so far looks awful. Tom Cruise is a Nazi and is supposed to be German, HOWEVER, the piss-poor fool doesn't even attempt to have a German accent. His wife doesn't even sound German. We don't need to have Americans try to save the dang day everytime, lol. They picked up good German actors for Hannibal Rising, so why not pick out someone like Gaspard (what's his name? He was Hannibal Lector...) to play the lead role? Nope, we have a steaming pile of crud named Tom Cruise to step into the shoes of being a Nazi.

Really though, the action looks great, and the scenes look awesome. But all in all, this will have to wait until it comes to Starz..but if it doesn't come to Starz, I'll just pick it up at a rental.

For the record, it did happen. Claus Von Stauffenberg actually attempted to assassinate Hitler, despite the fact that he was in the German Army, which was about the last of around 41 serious attempts to kill him throughout his rise to power in Germany. Look it up on Wikipedia, it's under the title "20 July Plot", and there are plenty of other sources to support it.

As for me, I think I'm going to see it either during my New Year's party with my friends, or sometime in January before I have to go back to school. Once I see it, I'll give out my review.

Uhm, actually I meant that we all knew that Hitler wouldn't be assassinated. Guess I should've made my post more clear lol.

What do you mean? Do you mean historically we already had the info that he wasnt assasinated or do you mean that we all knew it was impossible in real life? If you mean historically, well duh! Its pretty werll stated in history books that Hitler commited suicide,so if you don't like that part, thats a shame,I think its very admirable they tried to do something right for the world. If you mean that during the time he was alive it was impossible thats complete bull,no one knew if they could accomplish it or not but,as I said,at least they were brave enough to try!
Anyways,I hate tom cruise just as much as anyone could but,for the part he was playing,he did fairly well.

I dunno,I don't mind them not having a german accent. Maybe his talent doesn't include german accents? You can only be so talented. Anyways I respect your opinion but,it also seems like you were expecting more than you should from the actors. Perhaps you should check out one of the older black and white films about this plot, which were done with german accents and language and subtitles. It was accurate and interesting, and thats all I care about. :|

I'd give the movie a solid seven and a half out of ten.

Tom Cruise was okay in the movie but he wasn't as good as he was in say, Tropic Thunder.

That said, I enjoyed the plot because I really didn't know much about the assassination attempt until this movie and even thought I knew that somehow Hitler wouldn't die; I think the real suspense and drama comes from what would happen to the conspiritors plot and lives.

Now that I've seen the movie, here's my review:

First off, seriously, guys, forget all you know about Tom Cruise. If the fact that he is the lead role affects your perception of this movie that much, then I am, with all uncensored honesty, sorry for you. You missed out on an amazing movie.
I honestly forgot that it was Tom Cruise in the movie about... 1/4 of the way through the movie, give or take. Even though I knew in the back of my mind how it all was going to end, it was still intense, and I was cheering for Claus all the way. The movie was very well-done, and although it might've been a bit better if the actors spoke in German or had a German accent (which a few of the actors did), the actors still portrayed their characters superbly and very convincingly. Besides, the part in the beginning where the voiceover faded from German to English made the point clear that in actuality, they were speaking German. I predict with confidence that this movie will at least be nominated for an Oscar for Best picture, best screenplay, and possibly Best Actor.

I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars.

I think when this movie comes out on DVD, I'll try watching the German audio version, and see how that sounds.

Did I say anything about saying that the way Hitler died was stupid? That the assassination went along as planned? I was just saying what I would have liked to see. I don't deny the fact that what the Germans tried to do to Hitler was really risky and great. But, I guess I'd just like a little twist in movies sometimes.

I just gave out a simple little review for a simple little movie. It's nothing to blow a cork over. :/
