I certainly thought the end was sad myself.

Sad? Sad is an understatement. You should have seen me when I first saw the movie; I was depressed for days!

I thought it was sad because of the father / daughter relationship finally working out then having to come to an end by Balto wanting what's best for Aleu even if it means letting her go, not an easy decision.

For some psychotic reason, I didn't find it that sad. I was happy for Aleu, actually. Maybe a bit sad because Balto cried, but I guess I just thought, 'Good for you, Aleu!'

Quoted for truth..

Pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. This is totally one of my favorite film endings EVER.

At the time when I first saw it I must have been 10, so in reality I was to confused by the plot to think it was sad. You would not believe how long it took before I finally figured out what the point of the movie was. So yeah, it was kinda of a sad ending.

The end was the best part of the film to me, the flashback was what made me cry. And TRUST me, when a film makes me cry, it's deffinately a good one.

Well, as a fan of WQ, I thought the ending was more sentimental than sad. (Although when I first watched the film, I was satisfied yet in near tears when Aleu chose to stay with the wolves, I'll admit.)

With the ending, I agree with Kaynight - Balto and Aleu had been close when she was still a pup, just like every father should be to a daughter, but as she grew rebellious and headstrong, seeking her own independence, he was too protective of her, fearing how she would last away from his watchful sight. Then she learns about being part wolf and runs away, upset at Balto for shattering what she thought she was meant to become, and it's up to dear-old-daddy to find her and mend their broken-fenced relationship. In the end, they almost seem to forget the reason why she ran away in the first place, and a more matured Aleu chooses her fate, leaving Balto the difficult task of letting her leave his side. Throughout the film, we notice how he feels about his daughter - Balto loves Aleu deeply, wanting nothing more than to have her safe with him instead of dealing with the ridicule of her pedigree - but by the climax, we see him accepting the fact that all children must grow up eventually and leave the nest, starting their own families and living their own lives. So, the ending of Wolf Quest had both Father and Daughter growing up - Aleu accepted her wolf heritage while Balto learned to let go of his beloved child. It's tear-worthy . . . something all families should see. (Ignore the animation quality, and maybe the WQ-haters will understand why we fans love it so much . . . but I digress.) Letting go is a natural part of being a parent and a child, so it's nice that a sequel finally used a twist like this (I mean, who would have expected Aleu to join the wolf pack as their leader in the first place? Really, who did?)

But I do believe Togo still said it best. *bows to Togo*

i cried! *raises hand*

this kind of hit home for me a little bit because im on my own now, and when i left it was so hard to leave my daddy...i absolutely loved this movie in particular. Aleu reminds me of myself a LOT of the time through out the whole movie...especially at the end.

Balto kind of reminds me of my dad. its kind of weird because his reaction was like Baltos when he finally realized that his baby had grown up..and this is what they do when they grow up...

I thought it was a little sad, but it's also a happy ending because Aleu has found a place where she belongs.
