I hate Animal testing too, medicine should be tested on humans who have the disease the medicine is for-i.e. Cancer medicine for people with cancer.

As for testing cosmetics-we don need more stupid cosmetics! If we have to have new ones, test it on violent criminals!

What do you think about testing animal medicine on animals?

Then perhaps we should test it on human beings instead, which one might find as equally cruel.

That's the sort of logic that humanitarians find so easy to counter, since violent criminals qualify as people too -- humans, at the very least. Either way, you have no right to question the value of another person's life.

Had it not been for such testing, many contemporary cures and medicines may not have been discovered. Anyone should be able to realize this by now. The tradeoff of a CONTROLLED number of animal deaths [more often, the animal doesn't even die, as the test product -- especially in medicine -- prove to be ineffective and leave the animal as fine as it ever was] for the medical and technological advancement gained from them is well worth it.

"Suffer the few for the many," as the quote goes. Chances are, you're still alive and probably able to flame the crap out of this post had it not been for something you've taken that was animal tested first.

Amen to that.

I'm sorry, but as much as I love animals, I believe that testing medicines on them is a necessary part of life. I consider it to be the 'lesser of two evils,' since it does save many human lives (and perhaps many animal lives as well). As Rex said, most of the time the lab animals do not die. If animal testing is successful, then the drug will be tested on a small group of human volunteers, as well as animals.

However, I completely agree with the whole cosmetics thing. Cosmetics do not save any lives, so I believe that testing them on animals is cruel.

If there's no harm in animal testing for cosmetics, why do you consider it cruel?

And no one here's trying to "sugar-coat" it. You got that impression on your own. The whole point of animal testing is to study the reactions animals have when taking the product, since it's very likely that humans will act in much the same way. Take the good as well as the bad.

How do we know there's no harm in testing cosmetics on animals? And even if it isn't, they could be kept in poor conditions. Besides, cosmetics are not as valuable as life-saving medicines.

I agree. Where would the world be today without testing medications on animals such as mice for an example? Hey where would the human race be without penicillin? Nearly all medications are tested on animals because it's safer why risk the life of a person in testing medication when you can test it on a mouse or other animal? Cures for cancer and even AIDS are carried out everyday on mice (and perhaps other animals? I'm not to sure) but should we stop doing this and thus stop our search for cures for these diseases? Now I’m not saying all animals testing is a good thing but like Dr Rex said everyone need to look at the good side to some of these things, everything in life has a good and bad side.

NO! I HATE Animal testing, it's cruel and un-needed, half an asprin would kill a cat, however help a human onto recovery, just that fact PROOVE'S just because it helps a cat/dog/bunny/rabit, dose NOT mean it will save human's lives. This is why I agree with the ALF (Animal liberation Front):

ALOT of people think animals are well-trated, maybe you've never been to an animal testing unit. LOL you would have a good time finding a place where they are actually well-treated. ANimal testing is WRONG!

Not to people whose lives are saved by animal testing. There are no alternatives to it. (I mean, we can't test it on plants now, can we?) Even though animal testing is not entirely reliable, for most of the time it does give valuble results. Once enough data is collected, the drug then will be tested on a small group of human volunteers to see if it works on humans as well. Ever heard of the thalidomide tragedy? If the drug had been tested on pregnant animals beforehand, then perhaps there would not be so many children who were born with deformed limbs.
Or what if you had a relative who was dying from a disease, and the only drug that could help had to be tested on animals first? Which would you rather die - a lab rat or your relative? Thought so.

LOL, I see no one actually has ever been to an animal testing place. Anyway, to answer the final question, I would personally choose for the relative to die, why should other living things suffer for the benafit for one.

Anyway, they don't test a "Few" they test on 100's of animals, they had killed over 1,500 animals before they found out half an asprin could kill them. I'm sorry, this should be stopped. WHY do animals have to suffer? Just because they cant fight back? Just because "The're not as important", excuse me - I see no difference in a mouce or human, the animals don;t walk up and say "HEY! I'LL BE TESTED ON", they take them cruely, and change there lives.

I'm sorry, if your a animal tester, I feel that we should test on you, see how you like it.

Maybe you should be, personally, why should animals have to suffer? Animals that had a life, gets captured and tested on, even if the animal wanted to reject.

But still, maybe you don't want to be in my family, But Animal Testing is the most cruel way to test Clinical Drugs.
