Going?Basically, is anyone planning on going to Anthrocon '09? Or went in a previous year?
Anthrocon..?Anthrocon is a furry convention held every year in Pittsburgh, July 2 - 5.
It's main events are (as copy-pasted from the AC site):
Art show: Representing scores of participating artists, the Anthrocon Art Show exhibits and sells original artworks of a science fiction, fantasy and/or fannish nature, especially those relating to anthropomorphics. Artists offer works in various media, both flat (sketches, pen-and-ink drawings, paintings, etc.) and 3-dimensional (sculpture, masks, costumes, etc.) for display and sale.
Artists' Alley: Artists Alley is a place for artists to sit and draw, to show off their artistic talents, and maybe even to sell a print or two. It complements the Art Show as a showcase for the amazing creativity found in the Anthropomorphics community.
Dealers Room: Anthrocon hosts one of the largest dealers rooms of any Anthropomorphics convention in the world. A wide variety of anthropomorphic-related books and media as well as a plethora of art and other furry-related items are available throughout all three days of the con.
Charity Auction: Each year Anthrocon picks a different charity for which the furry community can benefit via an auction. The charity for 2008 was the Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue; we have not yet decided on a charity recipient for 2009. Click on the Charity Auction link to learn more.
Dances: Some of the larger social events are our dances which feature a wide variety of dance music as well as "fursuit-friendly" events. Check them out on Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
Masquerade: The Anthrocon Masquerade is an event designed to provide amateur and professional costumers a showcase in which to combine the creativity of costume design with performance skills. If you are a costumer, the Masquerade is the prime location to express yourself through these particular talents
while helping to provide a memorable entertainment experience for Anthrocon attendees.
Uncle Kage's Story Hour: UKSH has been a traditional feature at Anthrocon since its inception. Come listen to the tales, all of which Uncle Kage maintains are 100% true and unembellished.
2, the Ranting Gryphon: The finest comic talent in Furry Fandom and a fixture at Anthrocon. Join him for an hour (or more!) of laughs and razor-sharp wit!
And more.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...furry convention..?To answer this, I'll direct you to Anthrocon's "What is "Furry"?" page as it explains it all far better than I can. Here --
http://www.anthrocon.org/about-furrySounds cool!...more info please?AC is a lot to explain all at once so I strongly suggest looking over the pages of AC's site (click the banner at the top of this page).
You do need to get a hotel room if you're going to go to AC you'll need plenty of money, not just for the room but for food and souveniers aswell. There's a lot to see and do so you'll miss a lot if you only go for the one day. Not to worry though, the AC website has loads of information on pricing and how to reduce the cost of going.
You need to register and pay to go to Anthrocon aswell, again, look on their site for information about all that.
If you're under 18 I'm 99.9% sure you have to have an adult with you to get in to AC!
Just for "fursuiters":Firstly, this is a fursuit --
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... al_top.jpg and a partial suit --
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w96/ ... ismall.jpg . Basically - animal costumes.
For those who like to go to AC in their suits and act a bit and mess around. (AC is the perfect place to go to wear one - or even just a tail or pair of ears - without fear of everyone thinking you're a weirdo running around in a costume)
AC has a Fursuiter's lounge so you can go in there to cool off (it gets
very hot wearing a suit!), take off your mask and get some fresh air and there's always plenty of water so you won't get dehydrated.
Ew...weirdo's...:
Please...this is thread to talk about Anthrocon and who's going/might be going/wants to go. NOT to discuss whether you like furries or not.
Not to mention the fact - You don't
have to be a furry to go to Anthrocon!
Of course it helps but you can go there just to look at the sales tables and art or just to go with friends and don't worry, a lot of furries at Anthrocon prefer not to wear a costume so you're not constantly surrounded by people in animal suits. A lot do wear tails or ears though.
So...is this the only furry convention? I kinda can't go to Pittsburgh. ]:Most certainly not!
There are -loads- of different ones, ones I know of aside from AC are:
Midwest Furfest - USA
Eurofurence - Europe (Unsure where..)
RBW - London
MiDFur - Australia
There are tons more but I won't list them here right now.
That's pretty much all I have to put here for now, so back to the original question - Anyone going/might be going/want to go?
I'm afraid I won't be going, even though I'd
love to go. I don't have the money to get there or anyone to go with. Infact if I had the money to go to any furry convention, it'd be RBW in London.
