This is 100% correct. The reason there are 12 Land Before Time sequels is simply that people keep buying them. People didn't buy the Balto movies in the same volume, so Universal stopped greenlighting them.

I still believe that the only way to get a good, remastered, correctly screen formatted special edition of Balto now is to ask for it on Blu Ray. For those of us in the US, you must have noticed by now that every recent movie - and I mean every single one - is coming out on Blu Ray. In fact when you see the ads for them on TV, they specifically say it's coming out on Blu Ray, and they show you the Blu Ray version on your screen first, with the regular DVD edition behind it.

Blu Ray is being pushed like you would not believe in the US. The result of the studios pushing Blu Ray so hard is that even older movies are being re-released on Blu Ray, even if they're so old that putting them out on Blu Ray is pointless. This wouldn't have been true a year ago, but asking for a regular DVD now is like asking for a VHS after DVDs came out. Studios are only going to be the slightest bit interested if you're speaking their language, which in this case is Blu Ray.

I honestly believe we have a better chance of getting a remastered special edition Balto on Blu Ray than we do on a regular DVD, simply because the studios believe Blu Ray is the "buy me" hot button. With Blu Ray players getting cheaper every week, they're only going to push Blu Ray even harder.

Recently HBO aired Balto in HD, and it looked fantastic. It's still on my DVR, I locked it so it will stay there forever. Love.gif To see it like that, rezzed up and in full screen on an HDTV... that's what we should be asking for. I don't see it as "asking for too much" because Blu Ray is the magic "buy me" button, as far as the studios are concerned. If there's a remote chance of getting the studios to do it, Blu Ray is it.

Just my opinion. But all you have to do is watch TV in the US for half an hour and you will see an ad for a movie coming out on Blu Ray... and DVD, with the DVD sitting behind the Blu Ray. The studios don't even care about regular DVDs any more, Blu Ray equals more ka-ching. And believe me, I want a special edition Balto as much as anybody. :D

all of you are right but heres the thing, with the land before time, how many commercials do you remember seeing?, how many balto 1 2 3 commercials did you see?, i am just moving one step at a time and working tor words the special edition, and when it comes out they will see how many poeple love it and buy it,i really want the legend of balto to not die in the minds of people, i personally went to the monument, it was great, everyone there, heard of balto..and have see nthe movies, ,i say keep voting keep telling people to vote and to do what i said before,it is a gold mine waiting to be found, when the special DVD comes out it will be the best one ever.the land before time, people only got it cause they saw the commercials, when i was a kid i only remember seeing a balto commercial once, the land before time,i still see the g dang commercials for it,if they advertised the Balto movies a bit more people would of bought them like crazy, i dont mind a 4th one,i just want a collection off all 3 movies with commentary concept art ect, if they made a fourth one, theyd have to think really hard, thats why im saying moving one step at a time is the best thing tto do.

From what I could gather, they were not far behind though...After all, even the Land before time sequels were badly advertised. But they sold a little better because Land before time is a more famous, since the very start.

But now, the situation is even worse than before, since they have stopped doing Land before time sequels, and have no plans for a second season of the TV series.
Yes, even LBT finally got the same fate as Balto and An American Tail. In fact, except for a sequel to Curious George, they seem to have no plan for anything animated.
And the current economic crisis is not going to make things easier I'm afraid...

I wouldn't mind them releasing it to Blu-Ray, on the contrary. But they should release it on DVD before everything else. I mean, there is enough room for improvements for making another DVD, and since many other animated films have been getting good DVD editions, there are less coming to DVDs, so this gives a good opportunity as there are really few traditionally animated films getting released on DVD these days.

The best would be to release it to both formats at the same time, like Sleeping Beauty for example...But I guess that's asking too much from them. I mean, they are still releasing DVDs in full screen...

I have considered this possibility : when the current petition will be "released", if it fails, I guess the only choice will be to spam them with mails; to let them know we are there. I would have prefered not to come to this, but since this method seems to get better results, then we'll do it.
