Wow, I'm gone for a while after the Fan Characters section is put in, I come back, and look what happens.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't SOME of the rules of the Fanart/Fanimage sections apply to the Fan Character sections too? Like "don't use images without permission" or "use balto-related material" or "actually put effort into it"?

I mean, without moderation, all you're getting is a bunch of people taking up space with yanked images of "their" characters that they probably didn't even create until they clicked on the FC section. And about 1/4th of all of the FC's aren't even connected to Balto in any way.

Not only is it spam, but its making the FC section look like crap, plus they're taking names from people who actually USE their characters. (I was lucky enough to put in all my characters before their names were used first XD)

I know its still fairly new to the site, but I figured I'd catch it before the mods had more section cleaning than they need to do. I say sick a few fanart moderators on this section sometime soon before it gets too out of hand.

It isn't even moderated and it needs to be. There also isn't a report function - doesn't help. It needs a cleanup before it gets out of hand.

Fan Character section is moderated by Fan Art moderators.

However, they were recently 'corrected' for removing Fan Characters because of whines the socalled artists whom had their characters deactivated sent to a certain someone.

So I guess they've been slacking.

I've been helping moderate the Fan Characters section, but I haven't checked it for a couple of weeks because I'm getting ready for finals. True, there are no OFFICIAL moderators for the section, but I thought that was because all of the moderators were supposed to help. And yes, all of the fan art/fan images etc rules do apply to fan characters. They always have.

Said characters have been deactivated with pms sent to the owners explaining why the characters were unacceptable. I'll get around to going through the fan characters section again soon when I have more time.

Yeah, all the mods "look after" the Fan Characters. So far we've not got a rules page for it but there's the guide in the Intro section of the forum, which I admit isn't the best place for it at all but with definate rules still "in the works" and no way for us to give it a rules page (Steet has to do it) it's kinda all there is for now.

While it doesn't have a report function, if you PM the link to a character you think is breaking the rules to the mods (Using the "send to" name of "mods") we'll still get it and can sort it out.

I check it regularly though and I know a few others do so it's just taking a little while to settle itself in.

I appreciate admitting the slacking, but c'mon guys! XD

Actually, a while back steet was deciding on whether to create Fan Characters mods. He even still has the blank section on the Staff page. But, I guess that changed to where all the mods look after it. I don't know. It could use more moderation though. And, I know all of the mods are probably having some trouble with having the extra job, maybe not. Which is why I recall back to where there should be Fan Characters mods chosen... but whatever.

Well that's the problem, it's very long to make a section like this, it's not even fully finished so I worked on the minimal things to get it working.
The moderation isn't part of it, but I know how much it's important. I only left that to the mods, for now.
I think that choosing official mods should be enough for now (in fact I will copy/paste the fanart mods list), then probably add a "rules" page like the other sections - although, I should remind that *the same rules apply everywhere on the site* (but it seems people always seem to forget it...)

I do agree with you on this Cat, that section was in need of a moderator. Looks like you got what you wanted though, if you'll look at the Staff Page moderators have been chosen to moderate that section too..huzzah. xD
