Hey guys and thanks for clicking! I'm VividLegacy here with a Balto RP for y'all. So, I'ma tell you the plot.
Oh, and don't worry. I don't use "y'all" and "I'ma" or any other words like that when I'm roleplaying. I just use it in text like this to give y'all the impression that it's me talkin' to ya.

Saba, the blue eyed pup with Jenna's markings, is a natural born racer. She is adopted by a young girl and her family and was then named Kiki, so she tells other dogs that her name is Saba, but humans call her Kiki.

Although she was only intended as a companion dog for the family, at only 7 months old she can outrun the family's other dog, a 2 year old Alaskan Malamute named Maria. Maria was just like a big sister to Saba, with a very tomboyish personality that Saba picked up on right away.

Although the family loved Saba very much, her talent was too brilliant to throw away. At the age of 10 months, she was sold to a local musher and put on the mail team with her "papa", Balto. He taught her a lot about sledding and 4 months later she could outrun even him.

But her great talent came at a great price. Her musher sold her to another musher, one who was far more experienced. This musher was a sled racer, and of quite a high league. He traveled all over the North American continent and found the fastest and most able dogs for his team. His team, however, was in Toronto.

Saba bid goodbye to her mother, papa, her siblings and Maria. Then she slipped into the right swing dog harness that would be the start of a new life and would forever alter her destiny.

So there we have it folks, that's our back story. Now, for the actual plot. (I actually just typed all that and realised that it was a back story not a plot.)

Saba and her team have had their share of challenges, but this will test their strength, courage, bravery, determination and teamwork like nothing else ever has. Saba is considered the weakest link in the team and is determined to prove them wrong. But this race stretches all the way from her current location in Toronto all the way out to Alaska.

Sure, when he had first bought her for his team, she had had to travel from Alaska to Toronto, but they stopped at a few towns for rests (which were usually for one or two nights). But with this race, it was forbidden to enter a town for any reason aside from medical purposes, or else they were resigned from the race.

And as for food? Well, they bring an original supply of food, as much as they like, but they have to take into account the weight of the food they are carrying. Usually the musher will bring a shotgun and a fishing rod, but on one occasion it is rumored that the dogs themselves took down an elk calf.

Saba was very concerned about this race, worried that her inexperience would show through and she would let the team down. But something made her change her mind. The finish line was actually the town of Nome. Saba figured that this might be her only chance to see her friends and family again, so she would make it to Nome as a winner or die trying. She missed her family and friends from Nome more than anything in the world, especially her brother Dingo. So she would see them again.

Now, I know hardly anything about sledding, or Alaska, or Canada, or USA. In fact, I've never even seen snow! But this is all fiction, not fact. Now I will give you the bio which you are required to fill out.

Code: Select all
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Breed:
Appearance:
Personality:
History:
Other:
Preferred Position:

Okay, now, I'm sure you are all smart enough to figure out these on your own, but there are some rules/guidelines that I'd like you to follow.

Name: Well, I'm pretty cool with this, anything goes, as long as it's not inappropriate or anything.
Gender: You can make a female character, but I would really prefer most of the characters be male. Because male dogs are usually faster and more powerful, more built for sled-pulling. But not always.
Age: Write this in years and months. Make it no younger than 2 years and 6 months and no older than 6 years and 2 months.
Breed: No, it cannot be a wolf. And no, it cannot be a wolf hybrid, unless it's a character which you have made up before this roleplay. breeds which are able and are used to pull a sled. No Irish Setter or Saluki or Border Collie mixes. They aren't sled dogs. But Akitas, Chinooks, Chow Chows and the like are okay. You can have mixes too.
Appearance: No photos. If you have a drawing, render or coloured lineart, then that's great! If you don't, it's still okay, just give a good description of what your character looks like.
Personality: Detail. You must have detail. That is an absolute must.
History: It doesn't have to be too fancy, but I would like that it explains where they come from and how they ended up on the team.
Other: Anything you wanna mention that doesn't fit into the above.
Preferred Position: Below I have a list of the positions that are available. I will choose which dog gets which position. I WILL CHOSE. Not you.

Lead Dog- Lucifer (EMERY_DEVERAUX)
Left Swing Dog- Alpine (whitewolf17)
Right Swing Dog- Saba (VividLegacy)
Left Team Dog- PitchBlack (wolfie123)
Right Team Dog- SnowBelle (wolfie123)
Left Wheel Dog- Samson (rose_weasley)
Right Wheel Dog- Keno (IDanceOnthorns_x/VividLegacy)
Maria (Nome)- (IDanceOnthorns_x)
*Musher-

*The musher is just a maybe. There isn't usually many people who want to roleplay as musher, and quite frankly I don't mind that one bit. But if you'd like to, you're most welcome.

Ahh, the most favourited part of all roleplays (hint of sarcasm)...
THE RULES!

1. This rule does really help things to flow smoothly. There is a posting order. I will post it at the bottom of the page. Follow it! Even if we have to wait. I'll PM the person when it's their turn, and if they do not post for 3 days we will continue without them. BUT FOLLOW THE ORDER!

2. PM me your bios and I will post them here. It's much easier to have everything in one place.

3. Use correct grammar and spelling. Typos are okay, but outright laziness is not acceptable.

4. Try to post at least 3 lines of writing; more is even better. I don't mind if you have a little writers block every now and again, but constant one-liners are not acceptable.

5. Have fun, enjoy yourself and stay in character!

Here are the bios...

Name: Saba/Kiki
Gender: Female
Age: 2 years and 3 months
Breed: 3/4 Siberian Husky, 1/4 Grey Wolf
Appearance: Bright blue eyes, red and white fur with the same markings as Jenna, but her tail flows like Balto's.
Personality: She's peppy and spunky but because she is surrounded by such strong characters, she sometimes feels like a little girl and on occasion loses faith in herself. However, she never loses faith in others and can be very, very stubborn.
History: Is already posted above.
Other: Not really.
Position: Right swing dog.

Name: Lucifer
Gender: Male
Age: 5 years and 1 month
Breed: Siberian Husky
Appearance: Mostly black, he has a nose bar and two white "eyebrows", his eyes are ice blue, well muscled and good looking.
Personality: Cocky, competitive, loyal to team but holds an iron fist over them, fiery tempered, aggressive, control freak, can be nice and loving when he wants to be, stubborn.
History: Was born a pedigree husky with two great sledding dog parents, was bought and sold various times and trained to be the best sled dog, until he finally made his home with whoever owns him now
Other: Wears choker chain and fire red collar (when not in sledding harness).
Position: Lead Dog

Name: Alpine
Gender: Male
Age: 2 years and 7 months
Breed: Alaskan Malamute
Appearance: Has bright green eyes, has gray-ish fur with a white tail that is curved.
Personality: Intelligent, kind, is good at detecting other's feelings, loyal, brave.
History: He was born a purebred to a vet and his family in Anchorage Alaska. It was when he was doing medicine runs that he found out how fast he was. He then began training to be a sled dog and quickly became the best in his town. One day a musher (the one in this story) saw him run a race and later bought him to run in the current race.
Other: He is the least indifferent to Saba in the group. He has a blue and gold colored collar that was a parting gift from his family that he never takes off.
Position: Left swing dog.

Name: Samson / Max
Gender: Male
Age: 3 years and 9 months
Breed: Siberian Husky
Appearance: Image
Personality: Sam tends to keep to himself and is persieved as quiet and shy. But he really does have a good personality, he just doesn't want to mess up this opputinity as a top sled dog. Still, he usually has a smirk on his face, like he is sharing his own personal joke that no one else knows about.
History: Samson lived most of his life with a small family in the upper states of the US (the family traveled alot so they didn't stay in one place long). One year, when Sam was about two years old, the family and him went on a vacation through Canada. While there, they were abel to see a dog sled race. Sam had never seen anything like it in his whole ife and decided to try it out for himself. He ran along with the rest of the mushers and dogs, beating them all. It was an open race and therefore not very impressive. But the Musher caught sight of him and thought he had plenty of potential. He began training Samson, though his family didn;t approve of it. When Samson's family was getting ready to leave, the Musher asked if he could buy Samson off of them. Of course they did not accept. But Sam had had such a good time that he went to the Musher on his own on the night before the family left. In the morning, all that was left of Samson was a bundle of money.
Other: His family used to call him Buddy, but the Musher re-named Max. Well, it's closer to the real thing... And this is his third time running the race.
Position: Left Wheel Dog.

Name: Snowbelle (nickname: Belle)
Gender: Female
Age: 3 years
Breed: Siberian husky
Appearance: Snowbelle looks like a typical husky, she is black and white. She has emerald green eyes and a stocky-but-skinny build, meaning she is fast but strong.
Personality: She is kind, but pretty stubborn. Its hard to get her to back down from her opinion. She's always bragging about being the only female on the team. Backing down from a fight isn't her thing, so don't get in her way.
History: Belle was born into a family of sled dogs, she was the slowest in her litter. She was sold to a musher, who trained her but found her to be hopeless. When she turnt one, a sudden burst of speed seemed to happen. She became strong, fast and could beat every dog in town. She was put into lots of races. After winning a lot, she was sold to her current musher.
Other: Is not very happy to have another female on the team, she likes to be the 'strongest female'
Position: Right Team Dog.

Name: Keno
Gender: Male
Age: 6 years and 4 months.
Breed: 1/2 Alaskan Malamute, 1/4 Siberian Husky, 1/4 Saint Bernard.
Appearance: He is quite a large dog, quite tall but very, very muscular. He has a half-curled tail. His topside is a mix of gray and brown but his underbelly is creamy white. His ears are half-floppy. http://baltosource.timduru.org/image/vi ... play=10000
Personality: Keno is the oldest in the team. He is not the fastest dog around (but he would be a bit faster than Steele) but he has a lot of pulling power, which is what makes him perfect as a Wheel Dog. He can appear to be a bit heartless and cold at times, but it's really only because he thinks a lot of them are ungrateful. This is because he was never really that fast of dog, but he trained twice daily for an hour at a time. He thinks those with a natural talent for speed should train much harder than they do because then they could achieve something very great. He doesn't care for anyone anymore, because of his history.
History: Keno and his brother, Taurus, grew up together with a caring foster family. This family taught them basic instructions, like sit, stay etc. and housetrained them and general things like that. Then, when they turned a year old, they were sent to a camp to learn how to be pulling dogs for transporting logs and coal. He was placed on a team of three, with him, Taurus and a (female) Bernese Mountain Dog named Trish. After a while, Keno grew to love Trish and she loved him. Once though, a low, snow covered branch had rendered their musher unconscious, and they had yet to cross a (frozen) river. But it was nearly spring. Keno first dragged the musher across, then Taurus and Trish crossed with the load. But the combined weight of the load and the dogs split the already thin ice and the water began to stream freely like it did before winter. Taurus and Trish were swept with the current. Keno knew that if he pushed the log into the water, he would be able to save them. But he wasn't fast enough and couldn't get there in time. Ever since, Keno trained to be fast, and his musher noticed that he was becoming so fast and strong that he sold him to this musher.
Other: He rarely talks to his team mates besides about work, because he does not want to risk growing attached to them in any way in case something happens to them.
Position: Right Wheel Dog.

Name: PitchBlack (nickname: Pitch)
Gender: Male
Age: 2 years and 8 months
Breed: Husky cross ?
Appearance: Looks exactly like a husky, except he's black. He has bright blue eyes, and is very strong.
Personality: He can be cocky and arrogant, although he's nice to his friends. He likes to be silly, and often his concentration wanders. When he is running in a race, though his concentration is on the race and nothing else.
History: Pitch was born on a small farm, bred to chase cattle. His owner was going through bad times, and, seeing how fast he was, sold him. He was then trained to be a sled dog. He went from trainer to trainer, and finally ended up where he is now.
Other: Has a bit of a crush on Saba
Position: Left Team Dog.

The first post has been updated, EMERY_DEVERAUX has joined. Her character, Lucifer, will most likely be the lead dog in the team, but I will see other entries before deciding.

If you would like to see a picture of her character, go to her topic here.

I hope more of you join. And sorry for double posting, but it is required.

O.o umm all i gotta say is... Females have tighter turning abilities in were boys got the muscle, and gurls got the agileness(from personal sledding experience), and what you said sounded kinda Sexist, but dont take offence please ^^

No offense taken and sorry if I offended you. I'm actually a girl myself, haha. Yeah, I don't know a thing about sledding, but I figured because in the natural world usually the males are the more powerful (but like I said, not always).

So yeah, sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean it like that at all.

And umm, Steele6, if you would like to join, PM me a bio of your character.

I'd also be willing to add another character if we don't get more soon because I am ready to rumble.

Yeah, actually, wolfie123 I will add your other character in now, and I will make the first post and get us started! Wolfie I picked your character because he fits well into the roleplay. You has both the team dogs.

Starting post...

It was the night before the big day. Thousands of thoughts rushed through Saba's mind. What happens if I mess up? What if I'm just too slow? What happens if we lose? But the one thought that one question that was burned into her mind, What if we just don't make it to Nome? But Saba was tired. While they hadn't done any training today or the day before (they had a long walk though) the past few weeks had been rigorous, twice-daily training sessions that worked on enhancing their strength, speed and most importantly, their endurance. Tomorrow morning would start with a quick workout, plenty of water to swim in and drink and then to head off to the race.

"Saba!" It was Keno's voice.
"Hm?" was her reply.
"Get some sleep. You don't want to be tired before the big race."
"Oh.. okay." Saba said, then crawled onto her blanket and rested her head on her paws. She finally managed to drift into a light sleep.

The next morning they woke early, a bit before the sun rose. Saba got to her feet, stretched, then took a few gulps of water out of her bowl. Their musher called for them and they followed him outside. There was no sled, no harnesses and the musher was not in his sledding attire.

"Umm?" Saba said, looking to her team mates for an explanation. There was no reply, either because they didn't know themselves or thought it was pointless to answer her. Either way, there was no answer.

"MUSH!" called the Musher, and as a reflex all of the dogs immediately took off in the forwards direction. Now Saba was clear on things. This was a training exercise that they often did to improve their reaction to vocal commands. It sometimes proved to be quite difficult, but not now. It was obvious that their training had paid off because the exercises were completed with very few faults.

Afterwards the musher led them to a shallow lake, where the water was icy but refreshing and crystal clear. The dogs were allowed to swim in the water to relax and refresh them before the race.

Okay, so that is the first post and I will now hand you to EMERY_DEVERAUX for the second post.

After making sure that lots of his fellow team-mates were swimming near where he was, Alpine stealthily climbed up a large mossy rock and then proceeded to get everyone's attention by making a high-pitched howl before catapulting himself into the water splashing everyone around him. Since he was young Alpine never was good with really cold water so when he landed he had no idea just how cold it was. He quickly shot-up from the bottom out of shock with his teeth chattering and looked at the very un-happy faces of all the other dogs around him.

Not wanting to feel their wrath Alpine slowly swam away until he crawled out of the lake dripping water from every part of his body. He quickly and powerfully shook his body like any other dog and then sat straight down on the muddy shore line. A few moments later he made a sneeze that sounded like a cannon going off and thought to himself This can't be good.
