Katie was pressed up against the wall. She looked straight at the pirate, her heart pounding in her chest. Many thoughts ran thorugh her mind, the first being I'm going to die. Then more, like we didn't win and I wonder who survived. Then she thought of her father. She had to see if he was alive. On an impluse, she threw the nearest thing she could get her hands on, a bag of food, at the pirate with all her might, which at that moment wasn't much, and made a run for the steps. She didn't make it very far before she tripped over a box and fell against the wooden floor.

Katie looked at his hand with distaste before picking herself up. She crossed her arms, knowing there was no way to reach the steps now. It didn't matter anyway. There were probably just a bunch of pirates up there. "I;m fine," she spit at him.

Katie glared up at him, studying his features. He couldn't be much older than she was. His eyes were the most peculiar color, not quite green but not completely blue. His dark brown hair wasn't well kept and it was just long enough to keep falling in his face. He was well muscled and not all that bad looking... Katie caught her thought off as soon as they reached that thought. "Why would you care at all?" she asked, venom still evident in her tone.

Katie rolled her eyes at him. "Don't flatter yourself," she said, her voice not leading on to the truth at all, though she assumed any pirate was an expert at telling when he was being lied to. So, to change subject in a way, Katie tried to push her way around the pirate without much luck. "Would you just get out of my way!" she shouted. She wanted to find her father, make sure he was alright. Tears brimmed her eyes, but she refused to show weakness around a filthly caption. The emotional roller coaster Katie felt like she was on was coming to a messy ending. The tracks were running out and she was crashing and breaking inside. But she kept a straight face on the outside, though breathing heavily.
