While watching Balto, I noticed that Dixie called Steele 'magnesium'. I learned recently in Chemistry class that magnesium is a non-metalic chemical--also known as unattractive, as it is not magnetic. Thus, the script writers slipped in an 'inside' joke about Steele.

Just thought I would point this out. Try thinking about that next time you watch the movie.

I am a machinist and it is in my point of view that they were not talking about Magnnsium as being magnetic, but as the fact that when machineing Magnesium you have to be very carful that the Magnesium dosent get too hot or it will burn then melt at high temp. and melt through the machine you are working on, so I think that she ment that steele is very hot, but thats just my opinon with facts to back it up.

Or they were simply having her, as is customary for her character, use one word when she clearly means another. The word she is searching for, I believe, is magnificent.

She later uses the word "disposable" when she means "deplorable" or "despicable"

I agree with that one. She's a character that doesn't choose her words carefully nor does she use them cleverly. Like when she's trying to show off her collar, she uses the obvious (and yet, not so obvious) phrase "neck and neck". She also says, after Jenna asks her if her collar is new, "What, this old thing? Yea." It was intended to be a joke by the creators of the movie, but not by the character's standards.

And also, "disposable" is not really...the /best/ word to describe Steele, at that time xD Despicable would've been right, but like you said, she clearly meant that word, than "disposable".

Yeah, that's kinda what I think too.

I think it's possible that they could have been using it like for the metal and it's properties as a metaphor for Steele but I think that's kinda reading a bit too much into it.
