I actually agree with you 100%...

Many think it's easy to find sites, but like you've stated...

HybridFuse(TR) wrote:

1. They have nothing to do with the stuff you're looking for. Like if you search "Balto" and such, you get somethings like Baltimore.. and concerts. Nothing to do with wolves or lions there.

2. Most of these sites are dead. When there's dead sites, there is a lesser chance that you may actually get members there. Dead sites don't gain a lot of attention, and the webmasters may have little or no interest in updating it.

3. Some of the sites are actually movie database sites where they give you ONLY information about the movie (TLK Or Balto). And that's just all they give you. They don't display sites and they absolutely have nothing interesting for people to really look at... so they are also most likely dead.

And then there are other sites that really aren't suitable for sending requests to.. such as government sites or sites that older people go onto.

1. Most of us in the world don't know any thing about the movie Balto. A small handful would actually still be interested and join our site. Which is good, but it sorta' gets us nowhere.

2. Government sites, even American ones, are strictly based on one certain subject. If it's wolves. It's just wolves. Nothing fantasy of the sort. Not even a decent movie like Balto. IF it's about researching lions, then that's the theme of the site. Any other site request sent there that has nothing to do with what they're trying to grasp to the public is really nothing of importance to them.

3. Some sites are only made for older kids, teens, and adults. These sites sometimes don't really have warm candidates for newer BS or TLK members, because of the activities they may do on those sort of sites.

It's extrmely hard to find sites now. Either they're popular, and have the sites, or they're dead. Or are even just for teens or non-child friendly sites.

I also agree right here with many of some fellow webrankers (Won't be stating names) of which I haven't seen ANY of them finding sites. Or posting progress, by that fact. But what I would say would exactly be these reasons as well:

This topic shouldn't be flamed, and it's actually an exellent heads up to people.

Some excellent points, Hybrid. And I agree. No offense meant to any of the webrankers out there, especially the ones who have been trying their hardest to help out, but the position is becoming kind of useless. Just from listening in on some shout box convos and hearing you guys say that you can't find anything, it's easy to see you're working, but there's really just nothing left to do. Most of the Balto-related sites have either shut down, or have no traffic whatsoever running through them, so it's pretty much useless to contact them and ask for advertisements. And any other appropriate sites have already been contacted usually, which leaves just the inappropriate ones, like what you mentioned. It wouldn't make sense to contact those websites and hope to get additional traffic through here.

So, I think that the number of webrankers should be severely reduced, maybe to only one or two at most, who can seek out wolf-related roleplay or even just wolf-related sites that are somewhat child-oriented to put up a link, or button. That's really the only domain there is left, and there's no need in having some 10+ people to do that job.

I also agree with this completely.

I know Steet will probably say "ANY link back helps, even on a site not related" which is true but you can't really ask people to go to ANY site they find and ask for a link back to BS or LKS because admins of said sites want to keep their links related.
A site about cooking, for example, probably won't link back to a site about a cartoon.

I know that if you search "Balto" in Google there are thousands of results but BS is the fifth link down. In a search for images with the word "Balto" there are pictures on the first page from BS.

Lion King is harder but that's because there are so many places selling the DVDs or tickets to the musicals, a search for just "Lion King" kicks out pretty much all links to those but a search for "Lion King fansite" has LKS third down. Same when you search that in images. A search for just "Lion King" in images has links back to BS on the 4th page.

That's not bad to be honest.

I agree with this. What more can we do? I try, but I'm just not finding anything.

yes, this happen to me everytime I search "Balto" on the net...no related sites or sources with wolves or sled dogs, maybe the last ones...

yeah, because there are only old sites that are abandoned, deleted or completely dead and if you're searching a good site, what do you find? only the same, boring information about the movies and stop. And sources like wikipedia doesn't give you good sites about Balto or TLK...

Think about it people. Don't rush an issue and immediately say: "You're wrong." Or even "you're right." Think this issue thoroughly before sounding out.

well, these are the classical lazy people -.- or who only want to show that he's a mod or something like that....the pathetic ones...

do you all mind if I ask a simple question?

Another thing is, people are requesting to be added to the webranking team. Its not fair for them, as they won't have any site to contact. anyone agree with my statement?

yes, that's right...someone first say that he/she knows a lot of sites where post the link of BS to take members but after, well, who cares? he/she became a webranking and he/she doesn't do the work of a webranker -.-

Most importantly, members on the site sometimes call us mini-mods. If we're on BS and something happens, we would try getting that person to stop. Everyone does, even the normal members. They call us mini mods. What about the members that DO try handling situations? We can't always have the blame. Plus if we can't do it, then why should the members even care to tell someone to stop "doing sms?" To stop cussing.. etc? If we can't do it, they shouldn't either. We webrankers are normal members too. We aren't mods.. and we HAVE the right to help make this site more user-friendly. Those members can stop trying to be a mod too.

Oh. My. God. Yes.

I have heard this around the site and I have SEEN it on the shoutbox. It really ticks me off...cause they group us (webrankers) into ONE category. Apparently, all of us are power hungry, wanna-be mods. Yep. Every single one of us. =)

...Not. It's really irritating...Cause I do know some are actually like that, but guess what people, we aren't ALL the SAME...Sadly, some members are too close minded and busy complaining to see it.

Agreed...There are currently 13 webrankers...Some have even yet to post even ONE link in the Activity Topic...

Shouldn't webrankers who haven't done ANYTHING yet, without an excuse, be removed? I mean...They aren't helping =|

I just remembered..

It seems like everyone nowadays can become webrankers. which is another problem adding on to the list of reasons why some people don't do their jobs.

True. The word just flies around. "Popularity" >_>

I rather not be in a webranking group, I just want to be one man rank man. It's a long way.
