Well,I would tell what their roles and personalities are like,but I haven't watched the series,lately.

You can get to know Kimba's family by watching the first episode. (1965) Snowene, Kimba's mother, is a beautiful tan lioness who loves her husband Caesar. Caesar is a huge, white lion and the kimg of the jungle. The jungle is called the " Bajelous Jungle" in the 1997 movie. Caesar was not as radical and progressive as his son Kimba, because when the problem of keeping the carnivores fed came up, he simply stole and killed domestic animals from the nearby villages for his subjects to eat. In this way he protected the herbivores of his kingdom. In the English dub, they say that Caesar only let the animals go instead of feeding them to his subjects. When Kimba becomes king, he faces the same problem. He tries to make the carnivores all vegetarians, but that fails. The carnivores end up eating grasshoppers that they had trapped in a cave. This story is meant to show that everyone is deserving of respect, no matter where they come from, and that sometimes doing the right thing means major sacrifices. Kimba is the first to go against the laws of nature for his subjects like this. Now back to Snowene. At first glance, she seems like a pretty, useless, needs-a-man-to-save-her kind of character. I believe she needs more recognition. Here's why: The hunter Hamegg (or Viper Snakely) used a recording of Caesar's roar to lure Snowene to a trap. He would then use Snowene as bait to kill Caesar. So Snowene hears this roar, and immediately tries to find Panja, thinking he's in trouble. And she's pregnant. Very brave in the first place to do this. She's captured, and brought to a village in a cage. When Caesar shows up to save her, she repeatedly yells "Stay away!" Snowene would rather live in captivity or die than see Caesar in the same position. Brave, loving, and selfless. So Caesar is shot, and Snowene , pregnant with Kimba, is put on a ship bound for England. When Kimba is born, Snowene tells him about the jungle and his father. She knows that she must keep his legacy alive. When Snowene senses a storm approaching, she makes Kimba jump out of the ship. (He can fit through the cage's bars, but she cannot.) She is well aware that she could be sending him to his death, but she knows that the ship will sink and everyone on board will die. (In the 1989 anime, a human on a raft also survives.) Kimba has a better chance alone in the middle of the ocean. It breaks Snowene's heart to drive Kimva out, but she does it anyway. She goes down with the ship. It is a truly tragic scene when Kimba comes across some wreckage of the ship and realizes that his mother is dead. It's ok though, at nightfall Snowene comes back as a ghost to guide Kimba one last time. Don't lose hope and all that. People often point out that Caesar appears in the moon to guide Kimba, but Snowene appearing in the stars is a scene just as powerful. In the Japanese, Snowene sings a beautiful song, but in the English she speaks the translation. Ok, now Claw. Besides his appearance, it's rather hard to compare him to Scar. Yes, they both have black manes and one scarred eye, but I think their tactics really set them apart. Scar relies on trickery, while Claw is more direct. He is definitely not as smart as Scar, but his awesome henchman Cassius makes up for that. (My username is based on this character- his original name is Totto, and he is a black panther.) Claw challenges Kimba to direct fights now and then, but sometimes sends hyena lackeys to kill him/just annoy him because they are totally useless. Sometimes Claw is subject to gags, too. All this kind of gives the image of a dumb villain, but there's something about him that's just scary. After Caesar was killed, and before Kimba's return, he took over the jungle. Even after Kimba comes, he still believes it is his territory and is willing to fight for it. I believe Claw represents the challenges and temptations that come with trying to do the right thing.

Kimba, or 'Jungle Emperor' is a great franchise in general. All the movies and shows are superb. Go to the link posted above, for one of the best sources on how to learn about it. It was created by Osamu Tezuka, aka the reason we have anime like 'shojo' 'shonen' and even stuff like Evangelion and Studio Ghibli. Seriously, his whole career is full of gems.
