EDIT (Nov. 3, 2010): Chapter 2 is up!

EDIT (Oct. 15, 2010): Changed the name of the series - never liked the old one anyway and this one fits better. Frankly I'm surprised no one else thought of using it before me . I'm still alive, and working on it! I just needed some inspiration because I got stuck after I scrapped an old plot idea. I have it back now, and I'm working on Chapter 2 again. It should be done in a few weeks or so, and then I'll begin writing Chapter 3.

EDIT (Feb. 12, 2009): Added a sample grab from Chapter 2 in place of the grab from Chapter 1.

Series Description/Summary: Aleu is now the leader of Nava's old pack. They decided to follow the caribou over the ice in order to keep the pack going and the tale ends there, right? Wrong. Having been raised near a town and basically as a dog, Aleu has no idea how to really act like a wolf, much less take care of herself in the wild. Not to mention that there are select members of the pack who aren't happy with her form of succession of leadership or having a yearling half-breed lead them. Will Aleu be able to grow up and learn how to live in the wild as a wolf?

Rating: PG (for violence)

As far as what it's about, I got so tired of everyone complaining about Aleu and not doing anything about it. So, I decided to do some character development on her part and describe her life after Wolf Quest. Lots of original characters will be appearing as well. See below for a list of the characters appearing in the fic so far and click their names to learn more about them.

Chapter 3, Unnamed Sample Grab:

She visibly calmed down a little and then sighed. "Aleu, the leader of a pack has to be strong; the strongest of the wolves in the pack. That doesn't just mean physically, but also emotionally and mentally. You have to face every challenge that is thrust upon you, and for your pack's sake, you must triumph. And worse, you'll have to do this when you're exhausted, starving, and probably facing several other obstacles at the same time. No matter what, you always have to be at your best. If you're not up to the task, then perhaps Aniu made the wrong choice in sending you here."

Aleu winced even harder than she had when she'd fallen. She'd told Amity about that part after Faelan had sort of spilled the beans about the way she'd arrived one night and the older female hadn't let her live it down since. She kept reminding her that even though she'd been handed the job, she still had to work for it like anyone else, special or not. It always upset her a little when Amity used that card.

The wolfdog looked back up at her with renewed determination, and something like anger in her cerulean eyes. Without looking at Brava she said, "Let's go again."

Brava nodded, puzzled at first, but then grinning at Amity. She moved back into position, semi-crouched and waiting for Aleu. Aleu turned and faced Brava, arching her shoulders and raising her lips in a snarl. Her hackles bristled and her tail bottle-brushed out.

For a moment they both just stood there, glaring at each other. Then Aleu charged.

Absolutely, I'm going to favorite you right now. Aleu was pretty two dimensional in WQ, which is just a shame. I love reading things like this that give her some depth of character. I'm a big fan of Juuchan17's "I Am Here" and "Unexpected Future: Aleu" stories, for the same reason.

I really like your writing style, honestly it's some of the best I've seen on BS :3 I like the subject matter, too... there's so much senseless hate & bashing of Aleu, and it gets tiring to see that's all people have to say about her/WQ. Sure, she *was* pretty 2D in the movie... one of the sad side effects of low budget sequels However, she deserves a good, well-written fic to round out her character in a more positive light, and you look like you can definitely deliver :3

Thanks guys, I appreciate your support ^.^ And to answer Lone's question, this will be the first Balto fic I will have posted on Balto Source. I've started a couple of others, but I never really finished them. Work or school got in the way. But, after I get at least one good first part to this story up, I might retrace and start working on the other one I put a teaser up for a while back. So far this story is taking priority though. If I can find the link to that other teaser I posted, I'll copy and paste it here.

EDIT: Chapter 2 sample grab is now up!

Almost done with chapter two. I know I really should have finished it earlier, but hey, I can't help getting distracted every once in a while too (or, more than that.) Also, many of the rest of the characters I've uploaded onto the characters section already will be featured in this chapter as well, though some will only be mentioned for good reason.

So, new update as the old one was horrid and late. As you've guessed, ran into some problems. The old idea I had lost its flavor (I thought it might...). I ended up scrapping it entirely and the only salvageable thing was my sample grab, ironically, xD. I had some more inspiration for the current plot line that will be taking place and is being written up as we speak.

Also, changed the title to one that I absolutely love - I hated the old one. Let me know what you think!

Looks like an interesting series. Can't wait to see it all done!

Chapter two has now been posted :3. Chapter 3 will be in the works in a few short days (if I stay motivated).

Chapter 3 teaser has now been added to the first post! Now I just have to stay motivated and maybe I can get it finished before finals and Christmas break.
