ye ah, i agree too it like walking up to a stranger in the street and saying @will you be my friend?@
Friendships should be earned through time and things like ideas or views thoughts you share!
I mean at school for example don't just go up to someone on the first day and say @will you be my Friend?@
Friendships sort of happen over time, with things like I said above.

Lord knows I've been complaining silently about this for far too long! It's completely absurd that a new member thinks that by asking someone to be their friend, that they are automatically close and can share secrets and inside jokes wit one another. Like others have pointed out on this topic, friendships are not overnight bonds. Time, and sharing your opinions, ideas, thoughts, and even random things about yourself is the key to a true friendship. So, I must commend you Tarja for making this brilliant rant. To those who do this, honestly, have you no common sense? Whether we're online or in the real world, you make friends the same way. Don't expect people to be more accepting online, because the case most of the time, is the reverse.

Yeah, I got a PM from a new member asking to be my friend once, I don't really mind but it's weird. It's like walking up to a creepy stranger on the street and saying "Hi, I don't know you, but will you be my friend?" Not cool. :ncool:

Well I'm new here so no one asks me but on youtube people ask me that all the time...i always tell them, "IDK talk to me and we'll find out." Know what I mean? If you say "yes" then you are not a friend, you just didn't want to hurt their feelings.

Well, I'm one of those people who say "yes."

It's not usually because I don't want to hurt their feelings, heck, I don't even know them. >_> But, the problem is I'm too giving and open hearted.

I agree with you 100%
I find it really annoying and disturbing when random people add you to their friends list. For NO reason AT all..Shouldn't you get to know the person first?
And also, it's really, really annoying to be asked these pointless questions. I'm always say no to them, and honestly, I only add people I like to my friends list..

yes -.- this is pathetic way (no offense) of the new members to make friends...you cannot be a friend of someone after 2 minutes of talking only because the person in the southbox is talking with you too or because it say "hello" to you...and the bad thing is that if someone asks you "can we be friends?" or "I'm new, can I add you on my friends?" you sren't so cruel to say "No, we can't be friends." :/ anyway, to be a friend of someone you have to know it better...but new members thinks, in my opinion, that here we're all friends because this is a Balto site -.- or because they're new...as Sunand Moon said, it is not cool :ncool:

I agree as well.
However, as Saske mentioned above, you cannot make or become a friend after 2 minutes of talk. A friend is someone who knows you and likes you the way you are. Good and bad. And it takes a LOT to become one. From all point of views, mostly in trust. (at least for me, it does, and like any person I got my own "wall" and its hard to break it) I suppose the correct definition would be "chat buddies" or a "good relation". You just talk random things on the shoutboxes, nothing personal or like some say "deep".

All in all, the Friends list isn't that futile in my opinion...
You can have friends without puting them on a list of categories or top faves.

Well, I have to agree with you there. One message isn't going to make much of a friendship. And I hardly ever used the friends list. If you ask me it's just a collection of links to get in touch with people you know (PM, see profile, email...). And you don't need to be on someone's friend list to be friends with that person.

Except for emily123, ya all have such negative views about the whole "friend" thing on here. Yes, it can get kinda annoying when people ask to be friends when ya don't know them; but how can they ever become your friend if ya have such a wall between ya and them from the get go? The friend list is a great way for people to slowly become friends on here and it helps to remove/lessen the barriers ya have over time. Ya can't make friends with people that ya won't even give a chance to.
