I have been going on there almost every day for a year and am shocked that they do not have the Balto movies, Balto soundtrack, lion King movies, Simba's Pride soundtrack, and other great movies.

So many people love them and they would make a fortune if they sold them!!

How can they not have these and other incredibly popular movies and soundtracks ? It does not make sense!!!!

The companies refuse to strike a deal with Apple.

The companies are Universal, Disney and Amblin Entertainment. I doubt they have refused. :P

I guess that Apple simply doesn't think that those movies wouldn't sell very much. It's all a matter of money, as usual...

If it was purely about money then why don't they have them? Those movies sell pretty well and are very popular(especially the lion king); and they have much worse and less popular animated movies so I don't think it has to be mainly about money or they would have put them on itunes by now.

The iTunes store is relatively new. Especially the ability to download movies and shows.

It takes awhile to format movies for the iPod and get 'em up to host. Not to mention there are thousands of movies that aren't on the iTunes store yet. Not just Balto.

EDIT: And I think it is the responsibility of the producer to put their own stuff on the Apple store for download. I could be mistaken.

The soundtrack to the movie, if I recall correctly, didn't sell all that much, I don't think.

Amazon.com has it listed as #10,736 on their list of best-selling music items. I don't think that Apple thinks that they'll make too much money off of it. Though, the people who reviewed the product on Amazon.com gave it great reviews. But given the fact that the movie has been out since 1995, I don't think that too many people care that much about a movie's soundtrack from that long ago if it wasn't a box-office blowout or an academy award winner.

Despite its exponential growth over the last 4 years, iTunes is still just one budding proprietary product of Apple since iTunes Store was released in iTunes 4.1 in April 2003. It's not that iTunes doesn't want the Balto movie or soundtrack on their store to market, it is just that a staff of 248 market campaigners and 56 product developers/reviewers cannot place every single movie/song out on iTunes.

Disney and PIXAR will of course get top priority when it comes to soundtracks and movie downloads on the iTunes Store, but there will be more to come. One thing to consider: the new iTunes release (8.0/8.0.2) uses the new Genius feature which tracks what people have on their iTunes playlists and this is fed back to developers at Apple to see what songs are more popular and which new songs to add to the iTunes Store. I have my copy of the Balto soundtrack on iTunes Genius list already, but more people that follow could even potentially bring iTunes one step closer to adding Balto to their list.

Yeah, I've done that too and I do hope that more people will download the soundtrack from Balto Source so itunes/apple will think more about putting the movie/soundtrack on.
